      คนไทยจะรักคนญี่ปุ่นมากที่สุด เพราะคนญี่ปุ่นมีบางอย่างคล้ายคนไทยคือสำรวม เกรงใจ ให้เกียรติผู้อื่น แม้ว่าในอดีตคนไทยจำนวนไม่น้อยอพยพมาจากจีนและมีลักษณะแบบคนจีน แต่ทุกวันนี้ได้หลอมรวมและกลมกลืนกัน และพวกเขาเป็นคนไทยสมบูรณ์แบบ ไม่เชื่อไปถามเขาดู เขาภูมิใจในความเป็นไทย แม้ว่าจีนจะยิ่งใหญ่แค่ไหน เพราะเราเชื่อมั่นว่าจิตใจของเราให้เกียรติคนชาติอื่นมาก และนี่ที่เรารักญี่ปุ่น

    Fun fact: Thailand drives on the left because of (indirect) British influence. The Japanese started exporting many vehicles to Thailand and also helped a lot with their transportation infrastructure. The Japanese themselves drive on the left because the British built their railways and then roads followed suit.

    • @Banom7a
      @Banom7a 2 роки тому +18

      Thailand also border British colonies like Myanmar/Burma and Malaysia which also drives on the left,
      In the case of Myanmar, their dictator leader woke up one day and have a divine dream that everyone should drive on the right in the 70s.

    • @kittenastrophy5951
      @kittenastrophy5951 2 роки тому +21

      I would say not likely true. Left side driving seems to start before WW I in Thailand due to the need to seamlessly connecting with British colonized neighbors as well as the meter gauge rail system( as you said). Japanese auto builders only came in the 60s ,quite late in time though slowly but strongly predominating the Thai auto market to date. Coincidently that Thai and Japan both have the same driving rule on the left.

    • @onalonan
      @onalonan Рік тому

      No my friend, there are really a lot of Japanese that love Thai and have been moved to lived here in Thailand like over 100,000+ population but in terms of the transportation infrastructure were all about auction my friend, they didn't help Thailand it's because there are a lot of companies fought for those projects and yes probably what you saw many times were the Japanese company won but not most of them my friend they had to competed with others company in Thailand to won the auction too to worked on those project, and like I saw about 25 years ago when you have a big project such as big long second or third floors Toll way, BTS skytrain or MRT underground train they still have a lot of companies from many countries worked together because it's really a big project and what I've seen too like you was one of them always the Japanese company it's probably because they are professional and won because sent a good price at auction but ofcourse not only the Japanese company worked on those project, like when we built the MRT 25 years ago we called Joint-Venture BCKT as a name of a company because we have 4 company doing work together only dig the tunnal hole itself for the MRT underground train already used the machine fromThai company+Japan company+ Germany company. We have to do together because it was a really big project. If it's not that big project, Yes probably they could do that project by only 1 big company and that's mean only one country do that project.
      Just like we Thai company just already completed built the First SkyTrain for Bangladesh people it's called the Dhakha Metro Rail Project, and they already tested the train to use since last year.

    As a Tai Ahom from Assam 🇮🇳, Northeast India, Thailand is like my solace purely because I relate with everything there. From language, food, dresses, culture to looks, I feel more connected to this land than any other place. I highly recommend anyone from Northeast India especially the Tai communities to atleast pay a visit once, in order to know how a Tai speaking community lives.
    I have personally visited Thailand 3 times. Covered most of the regions. My favourite city has to be Chiang Mai. Can't wait to be back again soon to discover even more.

When I first went to Thailand, I was fascinated by your jiggly-wiggly letters, similar to our Indian scripts and some Ramayana excerpts in the form of Drama, as we do Ramlila in India. But, i couldn' t make any from the language which seemed very sinitic and cute to me, with the tones. Plus, being from Odisha state of India, we had trade relations with Thai kingdoms too.

Also, I find some common words to Indian languages for example the name of Thai international airport Suvarna Bhoomi, most of the Indian languages Suvarna means gold or good looking structure, Bhoomi means land or earth.

    One of the greatest experiences I had was traveling to Thailand to teach music. I recommend any 'touristic' activity or location that are well known, but take a chance to and get in touch with local communities and 'normal' Thai. The respect they show to others is admirable, and they truly are the most polite and hospitable people I've met. Almost to the extreme, which will take some getting used to. If the whole world was a little more like Thailand, we'd have a lot more peace.
    Also, you forgot a little detail in the friend zone. One of the oldest diplomatic relations in the world and in Thailand is between the royal families of Thailand and the Netherlands! Over 400 years of friendship!

    Being a Thai myself, I'm really excited to see this episode. Aside from the puns and the pronunciations, I think you've done a great job. One thing I'm rather disappointed about is that there's no mention of my home province Buriram. Buriram is a province located on the southern part of Isan. It is where the Panom Rung castle (a castle that works kinda like the Stonehenge ie the sunset will align along the middle of castle sometime in a year) and the Khao Kradong (one of the few dormant valcanos in Thailand) are located. Really want you guys to cover that. But other than that, I think you guys have done great job on this episode.

    Thailand, which has about the same land area as Spain or France, consists of two broad geographic areas: a larger main section in the north and a smaller peninsular extension in the south. The main body of the country is surrounded by Myanmar (Burma) to the west, Laos to the north and east, Cambodia to the southeast, and the Gulf of Thailand to the south. Myanmar extends along the western portion of the peninsula as far as the Isthmus of Kra, after which Thailand occupies the entire peninsula until reaching its southern border with Malaysia at roughly latitude 6° N.

      Actually, It is really normal for modern day because of nationalism system that makes us separately. For example, there are around 25 million Thai who have to separate from Thai mainland and live under China territory in Guangxi and Yunnan. Moreover, there are Thai in northern India and northern Myanmar too. In addition, Laos and Thai are same race but have to separate the country because of French during the colonization period. So, every country also has the problem of unfair territory which separate their brothers and sisters apart. But we do not have to be angry by the past. We have to create the better world that all races can live together, no border , no nationalism, unite as one.

    I'm from Thailand and I really love this video! I've been watching Geography Now for a while already and ever since 2017, I've been anticipating the Thailand episode, and I must say this didn't disappoint! Although there were a few minor inaccuracies, for the most part this was really well-researched and I have faith that it'll teach other people more about Thailand!

    Songkran is the thai word derived from the sanskrit word sankranti and is also the hindu new year throughout the indosphere-india, burma, srilanka, bali etc( celebrated as vishu, baisakhi ,puthandu, bihu etc all on the same day april 14 to 15).
    Most of the similarities in culture and language are very evident and obvious to Indian ears, especially the names which have heavy sanskrit influence. Even the thai script is of tamil origin. Entering the airport one can definitely see heavy indian influence even in the airports name- suvarnabhumi which in sanskrit translates to golden land and the display of the hindu story samudra manthan.
    Most would certainly forget that even today the priests of the royal family are hindu bramhins whose ancestors were brought to thailand from southern india to perform the rituals needed for the royal family and also introduce most of the common hindu rituals and practices.
    The present day thai calender, astrology zodiac, ramakien, heavy thervada buddhism and even the traditional dresses like sabai (from saree)are derived from India. even the thai greeting customs is of indic origin.(sawadee with folded hands was)
    In the modern world thais may forget their deep relationship with their Indian counterparts but we must not forget the tree who loses its roots is doomed for sure. Hope the two cultures reach their glory together and not lose it in the name of modernization.

      The culture part might be in the historical side but Thai people still watch Indian drama and movie quite a lot till today. It's kinda wierd that 20th century Indian food doesn't exist in Thai cookery, while Indian movie and drama still popular during this period (and super popular around 50 years ago)

    National anthem is also played before every film. Everyone will stand up. It's played after all the adverts and trailers but before the film. I haven't been of late, but there used to be a selection of different video version of the King along with the anthem.

      Portugal was the first European nation which have the contact with the Kingdom of Ayutthaya. The Portuguese people introduced the Roman Catholic Church and modern warfare, the using of firearms, to the kingdoms in the region, especially the Siamese Kingdom of Ayutthaya and the Burmese Kingdom of Taungoo. Many Portuguese people worked as missionaries traders and mercenaries in the both kingdoms' troops and many were awarded the Siamese noble peerage. After the Fall of Ayutthaya in 1767, King Taksin estabished Thonburi as the new capital. Many remaining Portuguese people in Ayutthaya moved to the new capital. Their descendants are still living there today, in the community near Santa Cruz Church. Even many of them assimilated with the Siamese, Mon and Chinese, they still preserve their Portuguese roots, such as being Roman Catholic and having a unique cuisine. Many Thai desserts also have the Portuguese influences too.

      @@thboy1037 that is a great rundown of the history of luso Thai relationships, and all very true also. I've been in the Santa Cruz District, visited the church and the school and you are right, there is still some remnants of Portuguese food there made by what at first sight looks like a Thai person. I'm very happy to live in this country and proud of our past relationships which can be said, have been great.

    The part in which you say that Lan was divided into 5 smaller kingdoms at that period is a bit wrong though. The area which is called Lan Na didn't get divided into 5 smaller kingdoms until the times of Rattanakosin era when it became a vassal of present-day Thailand or at that time called "Rattanakosin".Before that, in the Ayutthaya period, Lan Na is still a unified kingdom ruled by the " Mang Rai" dynasty until it became a vassal of the Taungoo and Kaungbaung Dynasty later on. After the Ayutthaya kingdom fell, the Thonburi kingdom took back Lan Na from Burmese ruled and established 5 smaller kingdoms as a vassal that you have said in the video. These so-called kingdoms would later get slowly abolished and fully annexed into Thailand during the reign of King Rama the V.
