- The National Transportation Safety Board shared video with CNN showing the point of impact between the Dali container ship and the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore, Maryland. #CNN #News
My condolences to the hard working men who were trying to repair the bridge and support their families. May they rest in peace once their bodies are recovered.
I'm sure Trump will meet with the families -while Biden will go hang out with celebrities and raise money for his campaign.
I think two bodies were recovered in a vehicle if I read correctly.

I thought we were going to see video from the ship's cameras as it careened into the bridge. That would have been dramatic. Watching guys wandering around the wreckage is not dramatic.
seeing how amazingly strong that concrete pillar is against a fully loaded container ship is dramatically jaw dropping. The designer of those pillars needs to have his work studied more closely for future bridge supports.
i don't think reinforcing the concrete would've helped. That cargo ship at 8 nautical miles per hour was delivering an enormous amount of force. Newton's second law: force = mass * acceleration.
His overuse of the word dramatic is pretty amusing.
Nothing “amusing” about any of this. It’s mind blowing how heartless some people are. Six men died when that bridge collapsed.

Just like when they started saying unprecedented over and over and over 😂😂😂
Because its the media full of crap constantly to try and sell papers or get views everyone needs to stop watching the main stream media
So they can make a good documentary on “ seconds from disaster” or maybe maybe air crashing investigations but of course this is not air crash investigation
It was dramatic but they were pointing out how much structural damage the ship's bridge took.

"relating to drama or the performance or study of drama"
consider the possibility that they are being literal.
Yes! But to me it is far worse when news reporters describe something as "a miracle!" It isn't a miracle that someone survived a plane crash, it's merely remarkable. When I watch news I want valid information, not hyperbole.
Or find them synonyms.
My 2 cents, the company that owns/operates the ship skimped on maintenance and the ship was pushed into the bridge by the wind and the current/tide. It wasn’t sabotage, it wasn’t terrorism, it wasn’t a cyberattack, just a ship in need of maintenance, run by a company that wanted to save a couple hundred bucks.
There were reports of power failures by dock workers before she even pushed off.
1000% wasn't just a couple hundred bucks they saved but thousands. Maybe millions. Aka the status quo if you will.
No difference, terrorism by blind greed, religion, whatever is terrorism!
Maybe, That will be investigated. Fact is that with such a frail, outdated, unprotected bridge in a country that has skimped on infrastructure for so long, towboats should be mandatory all the way to free waters. Because shit can happen to any ship or bridge at any time.
The black box is missing 2 min of data, even though there is backup power. That's super sus.
My condolences to the lost souls
Sky Fairy cult construct, no such thing in the real world.
If you believe in the concept of a soul, the souls weren't lost, just the bodies.
The reporter thought the ship's name was the MV DRAMATIC instead of MV DALI.
Older bridges in the US are being retrofitted with pier protection around them with massive rock island base to absorb the direct force of a ship hitting it or to deflect a ship away from the bridge pier and around the pier instead of hitting it.
Eerily resembles the Salvador Dalí painting “The Broken Bridge and The Dream”
I am impressed that they were able to stop anyone from coming onto the bridge in such a short time.
Yes thank god because they said if they hadn’t it would’ve been like 60 people in the water 😢
That and the fact that it happened at 130am instead of 130pm. This could have much more destructive to life.
That was due to the roadworks.
Police were watching for speeders in the lane/speed restrictions.
Stationed at both ends of the bridge.
It's been reported that this ship had been having electrical issues in the days before the collision. This ship should not have been allowed to leave port, and everyone responsible for allowing that ship to leave port should be held accountable along with the crew. They knew their ship had been having electrical issues and still decided to head to sea.
Hi Melissa coxen this accident was 100percent avoidable it was not seaworthy, coast guard should have a field day with the ships log . could not disagree with what you said 👍
I have worked on the sea for decades. This happens all the time, but usually at sea. I can't count the number of times I had to avoid a drifting ship due to a power failure. The whole industry needs to be looked at.
It is very dramatic.
Dali was a weird dude. He couldn't have painted this bridge the way it collapsed though.
I am so happy that the adjective "surreal" hasn't been used. Though I would take It over the now triggering adjective, "dramatic".

The most critical info was recorded. Power went off, the generator needs time to kick in.
Relax boo-boo.
Main question should be is why wasn't there more pylings on either side of the bridge support to keep this from even happening?
Horrible design the way it came down like it was a popsicle stick bridge no glue!!!
dolphins/fenders cost money. Nearly 50 years nothing happened means 50 years of saving money. It was only a matter of time before an accident like this happened. Outdated bridge security that has not grown with the time. A time with more traffic and much more bigger vessels.
Because it costs too much, and nobody ever thought that a boat could knock it down.

Your right. They did an amazing job! While running a ship into a bridge. Amazing.
I have not seen anyone talk about it. But did the crew blew the ship's horn like fulltime moments before impact to try and alert maybe anyone possibly still on the bridge to warn? Or not? And if so, why not?

This reporter reporting is the only thing Dramatic
The bridge was unprotected. Unfortunately, ships will go out of control very occasionally. I can't believe the bridge was unprotected. It could have been a truly awful accident at any time. Thank God it worked out the way it did for all but the poor workers on the bridge
When a ship weighting 100’s of tons hits a bridge I am not sure what would protect it. Perhaps tugs fore and aft.
@@SusanATroutman Tugs wouldn't do it.
There's another channel with a Tug captain, (Tim B at Sea??).
Tugs can only move something of that weight and size when it's stationary, nudging it.
Once it's underway at 7 knots, the Tug will have little to no effect.
It's a 4 tug job to manoeuvre something of similar weight into a dock.
@@SusanATroutman a few hundred tonnes would have brought that bridge down. The sides of the channel approaching the bridge should have concrete and stone abutments and fairings. This nothing unusual with marine bridges. In the state the channel was in no way should a vessel that size to pass without tugs. This vessel was quite small these days at "only" 100,000 tonnes
Its incredible that such a busy port had a relatively unprotected bridge, why no proper deflecting buffers around the main bridge structure. That would have stopped the ship hitting it like a ball in a pin ball machine...........
That’s why we have the Infrastructure Bill. A lot of critical US infrastructure is really old, and Congress and the States have long put off spending money to renew it. There always seemed to be something more important. At some point old infrastructure and bad luck coincide, and this happens. Or a train derails, or a truck fire collapses something. Maintenance is important - it’s tempting to put it off or skimp on it, and you can get away with it for a time but sooner or later it will catch up with you. And it’s usually a lot more expensive to fix something that breaks than it is to keep it working. Planned preventative maintenance ain’t sexy, but it is what keeps everything moving.
Hope no one got hurt.. sending nature love ❤❤❤🐘
The only reason that wreckage isn't being moved is because of the investigation
Thank you, Sherlock Holmes
Yeah because the tonnes of interlocked steel and road deck sitting on the ship's bow isn't a consideration at all.
Such silly comments people come up with.
The main focus would be on getting the channel open again and ships moving.
Whatever happens to the Dali is way down the list.

how many times did he say "dramatic?"
I’ve driven on the bridge a few times around 1am, from my experience traffic is almost nonexistent at that time. The primary vehicles I saw were trucks going to and from the ports.
I’ve driven on that bridge a hundred times and never could imagine this, every one just pray for these 6 men and their families and the first Responders risking their lives. As a firefighter for over 20 years I couldn’t imagine running this call.
WHAT is dramatic about surveyors being under and investigating a accident?!?!?
Hmm, surreal imagery? IDK.
Absolutely nothing!
"1 minute and 29 seconds to get the people off the bridge"....
Wasn't that enough time to notify the workers and get them off?
No, they use a different dispatch...
they were mid span, the officer who blocked one side initially, was waiting for a backup replacement car, so he could drive to them and warn them.
I understand that the workers were from a private const company , not M-Dot.. So a call to company , on two-way radio ( if had) or fone call to supervisor..In truck and speed away.. Any delay on 2-way or fone and the time is eaten up..
@lukequigley121 Yes.. when the circumstances are explained, the time frame was tight. It's easy to speculate watching it unfold on a video clip.
Must've been a horrendous experience for them.. not even time to think what was happening. Feel for them and their loved ones.
Kudos to all involved moving so quickly on this before it happened to close the bridge

Why didn't they drop the anchor? Does it have one?
I think they did but there wasn’t enough time for it to make any difference
They did drop the anchor. They ran out of time and distance. Physics. Mass times velocity = very bad outcomes. BTW all sea going ships are REQUIRED to have operational anchors
You all made it sound like you had new video of impact on the description.
5 min of research ... Russia disabled the Polish rail system taking over their switching program .. years ago.

Five minutes after losing power isn't enough to get tugboats and reverse the engine, which will take 30 mins to stop the momentum of the ship. This is like in the Titanic movie or real life.
The question is how this ship lost power. How do you prevent this type of accident from happening in the future.
NO! It does NOT take 30 minutes to stop that class/size of ship. They were at maneuvering speed, so 7 to 8kts max. From ahead maneuvering to stopped "dead in the water" would take approx 8 minutes MAXIMUM, probably less. That night the wind speed was 35kts, which when the ship lost forward propulsion would have blown the "Dali" to her RIGHT side, i.e. towards the Key Bridge pylon. Let's all just wait for the NTSB/USCG to complete the INITIAL investigations, to getan accurate picture of what actually happened.
Each individual ship has, by Regulation it's "Operations Manual", ("ISM Manual") which has sections on things like who does what on the Bridge and in the Engine room, with specific sections dealing with Arrival and Departure from Port, operations when under Pilotage (remember "Dali" had TWO Chesapeake Bay Pilots onboard) procedure for maneuvering in Harbour Waters. The list of scenarios is almost endless. Also, there are written down instructions of Responsibilities for individuals to carry out under various scenarios - in essence, everyone should know WHAT to do and WHEN to do it and what NOT to do in various scenarios.
The Preliminary findings will be interesting. The FULL findings will take some time and will, I am sure identify "root cause" as today's jargon would call it.

@@jamesbarrett918 Ok how about Synergy Marine Group
This is well and good but if the bridge had protective barriers it would still be standing. The need for them is obvious in retrospect but why was it decided to save money by not building them?
Uh...no that is not correct. Multiple maritime experts and engineers have said the mass and velocity of the ship would have destroyed those barriers and still hit the bridge. While they may have decreased the velocity side of that mathematical equation, the mass was always going to win. Physics is a bitch. The bridge was a truss design . Think of your house roof trusses. Take out a support wall and the entire roof comes down. Most of those experts also say had she hit any other type bridge design there still would be significant catastrophic damage.
@@user-qs4yi9lb3i Maybe. But if you look at the shape of some those barriers it is quite possible it could have diverted the path of the ship if struck at an angle.

This dude just perfectly explained why the conspiracy theorists might have a point. As soon as the officials stated no malicious intent indicated everyone assumed that meant there was zero chance of any intent, but that's just not proven yet.
Maybe it was the prop walk caused the stern to move port side, of course the bow would move to starboard side accordingly. While propeller was in full reverse (judging by the amount of engine smoke), the rudder was much less effective in steering the ship, despite the ship was having emergence/regular power minutes before the collision. Sounds like pilot's or operator's error when they were under great stress to regain directional control, they should have kept the ship going forward inside the navigation channel as it was instead of putting the ship in reversing.
