I'd love for you to make one video dedicated to each and every node on fusion page. That would be amazing! You can combine some nodes as needed but every node needs its detailed video bro. Thanks again for this one!
I just wanted to say, I've learned so much from you @caseyfaris and of all the mentors I've learned from here on UA-cam, you are my favorite! I LOVE you man 😜Excellent content, and always delightfully humorous!
Thank you. Not sure I followed all of that straight away. Will need to revise it a few times. But...one very helpful tip. Being able to change the image resolution (size, aspect ratio) of the mask in the inspector, to match the media you are applying the mask to. Previously I have just changed the aspect ratio of the media being masked to match the timeline, but this is a useful tip as well. Thank you. 😺
Thank You, Sir, for this important converstation starter at this time. I refer to the catsy picture. And on a side note you saved me so much hassle with that unmakeing of the color corrector weird makingness. And the matte control is gospel to me. Thank you.
Thank you so much for the tutorial!, Casey. I will admit, it's sad to see Resolve makes it complicated, while Premiere has a MUCH more simple process for the same process. I really realllly want to switch to Resolve permanently, but I wish they would update this UI.
I think this is what I need but I'm still a few steps away. I'm inserting a full moon behind a dead tree with a handheld shot that has a perfectly clear blue sky I can use for keying. I've got the moon sized up, I've got the blue sky keyed and limited to within a circular mask in the sky over the tree branches to fit only the moon so the branches remain. Looks great, but I cannot figure out how to use a tracker to control the moons movement with the handheld camera. Any tips?
Hello Casey. Please can you tell me if you have any detailed tutorials on understanding bitmap masks and how to use them. Thank you very much. Your tutorials are very helpful thank you :)
Pre-divide / post-multiply... You've had to mention that check box on many videos. Sounds like they should change the default. What scenarios would you want it off?
Hi, I was doing just this sort of thing less than an hour ago, I knew there was a way to do it with matte control - but I couldn't remember the post-multiply image bit, so ended up using channel boolean instead. Thanks for this.
Casey Can you tell us how to change the color of the Mask Not the media inside the Mask but the mask, Like you Uncheck your Mask from solid & border width shows up. So How to Change the Color of Border of the Polygon??
Casey - this tutorial is excellent. However, the problem I’ve run into while trying to use the MatteControl is compound shape masks. They just don’t work. How do we integrate these?
Have you tried using a transparent Background node with Merges added to it with the different masks fed into the green nodes? it's a very primitive but decent workaround for something with multiple bits for the mask that works with most things so the chain is set out as follows Background -> Merge (mask 1 fed into the GREEN node) -> Merge(2nd mask).....continue until all masks appended - > fed into the green node of MatteControl
ok, but i have a collection of masks, in this case, forming the shape of a cat, a mask for its leg, for its head, for its tail...how do i create a mask on top of those masks to subtract them all at the same time, without reverting back to what was originally masked out? In other words, i want to subtract mask from a collection of masks...this is so easy on after effects, but i cant figure out how to do it here in Resolve.
what is the Merge Node compare to inside photoshop. I get confused because Merge for me means. grab all nodes and pack them into ONE node.. but inside fusion merge node is what. sorry new to fusion.
Great video. Hoping to get Studio later this month. Is there a way to introduce shadow under the dog to ad greater realism, most likely it would depend on ones CPU, etc, but is it possible to add multiple subjects in the frame using magic mask? Thanks.
You need to actually make the mask for it to show. or, before making the mask, click on "inverted" in the polygon inspector and then make the mask. after you make it, uncheck the invert button.
Sorry this just is NOT a clear tutorial. I am trying to mask out a part of my video, and move it to another part, however when I do that, it erases the rest of the video that isn't masked, and also when I try to move said mask, it doesn't drag that part of the video with it.
Struggling with trying to do the same thing over a video background. Not sure how that works as my understanding of the “background” node only allows a still image? Help I’m new at this! 😂
Good luck rotoscoping the cats if they were moving.😴 It is extremely time consuming and not really accurate. Shame davinci puts "fusion" related things in the colour page but doesnt care to add it in the fusion page.🤔😪 Thanks for your videoes.🙃
I am 44 seconds in and I have a comment. NO, NO, NO, NO, NO! Cats? The devil's creatures, Sir. They care less about us than a tax auditor after the deadline for submission. OK, I feel better for that. I may be back later, post video! 😉
all those node intead of just cutting the catshead in photshop and make copy of them all and move them around.. fusion is good but they need to simplyfied...
This gives me a headache. Something that takes minutes and is so intuitive and easy in AE, requiring no tutorial takes about an hour of searching YT to find how to do in Fusion.
Do you spend half the video talking about the stuff that you want to get rid of because mattes are easier. I wanted to hear about mattes. Talk about the other stuff in a separate video, or at least get to the point faster
Your tutorials are great mate, but who told you acting like a 10 year old was a good idea? Is this a new thing in America? Keep up the great work, but skip the child play...please 🙈
I'd love for you to make one video dedicated to each and every node on fusion page. That would be amazing! You can combine some nodes as needed but every node needs its detailed video bro. Thanks again for this one!
^^^^^ HIghlight, Make bold, and underline this. Esp for people who love After Effects, but can't afford it.
YEEEES PLEAAASE do.
You can also copy-paste nodes as instances so that changing one affects all the instances (color corrector in this case).
Casey - I have to say, you have a funny sarcastic energy in your videos that makes them stand out. Thanks for the help and thoughtful explanations.
You have played an integral part of my journey to learn fusion haha! Thanks so much man 👏
Casey Faris = Davinci Resolve "Swiss army knife". Thank you for this Nugget.
Your new format ROCKS while keeping it real 🤘
Thats exactly what i was looking for bro! Thanks a loads.. 👍
You manage to teach me something and make me laugh uncontrollably every time Casey!!
One of the best Fusion tutorials I've seen in a long time.
This is in a whole other category. Excellent video!
im so glad i came over to Davinci, to think i use to make png files of what i wanna mask out
I just wanted to say, I've learned so much from you @caseyfaris and of all the mentors I've learned from here on UA-cam, you are my favorite! I LOVE you man 😜Excellent content, and always delightfully humorous!
BRO MATTE CONTROL YES! I have been beseeching the gods of Resolve for a Casey Faris joint on matte control.
Yeah, Matt ... I guessed you would love a video about MATTe Control ;-)
The first minute of his videos is frickin the best😂
Casey man this was a really good lesion .. love it.. i learn tons from your videos... thanks J

Very helpful! Thank you!!
You are the Dane Cook of editing on resolve!!!!
Don't think that's the compliment you meant it as.
@@charliecooper3030 I watched a interview Dane did on Rogan..., it is a compliment to me!
FMD. Gold star bro. Gold star. Love what you do.
Shouldn’t this be called “CATTE Control?”
@Jennine Lataquin d fr there so Z
That was actually pretty good😂👍
you're an AMAZING teacher!
Thank You, Sir, for this important converstation starter at this time. I refer to the catsy picture.
And on a side note you saved me so much hassle with that unmakeing of the color corrector weird makingness. And the matte control is gospel to me. Thank you.
Doing the Lord's work here
Thank You, you saved my life
Thank you for the Nacho Libre reference
Casey you're so funny! (and making fusion funny isn"t easy)
Thanks! Love this vid!!
Your vibe at the beginning man omg hahahah
very useful, thanks!
Another really cool and useful vid. Thanks!
Very nice tip. Thanks!
Thank you Very much
Very, very useful -greatly explained too. :)
Thank you so much for the tutorial!, Casey. I will admit, it's sad to see Resolve makes it complicated, while Premiere has a MUCH more simple process for the same process. I really realllly want to switch to Resolve permanently, but I wish they would update this UI.
That's just clever!!
This is a welcome matte.
Things i never knew i wanted to know

Your videos help
Hello Casey. Please can you tell me if you have any detailed tutorials on understanding bitmap masks and how to use them. Thank you very much. Your tutorials are very helpful thank you :)
Love cats! He hee heeee! Love these tutorials Casey. Thank you.
Please do a video that explains how we can put video into a polygon shape
Pre-divide / post-multiply... You've had to mention that check box on many videos. Sounds like they should change the default. What scenarios would you want it off?
I've got the free version dowloaded but fusion doesn't work . Th picture doesn't show and it is jammed. How can I fix it please?
Hi, I was doing just this sort of thing less than an hour ago, I knew there was a way to do it with matte control - but I couldn't remember the post-multiply image bit, so ended up using channel boolean instead. Thanks for this.
I love kitties. Umm, but I'm not good at using the pen tool for selections. Can you do a video on that? Thanks.
Casey Can you tell us how to change the color of the Mask Not the media inside the Mask but the mask, Like you Uncheck your Mask from solid & border width shows up. So How to Change the Color of Border of the Polygon??
What to do if the Polygon mask is picking up a White Silhouette and not what you wanted?
Nice
Casey - this tutorial is excellent. However, the problem I’ve run into while trying to use the MatteControl is compound shape masks. They just don’t work. How do we integrate these?
Have you tried using a transparent Background node with Merges added to it with the different masks fed into the green nodes? it's a very primitive but decent workaround for something with multiple bits for the mask that works with most things
so the chain is set out as follows
Background -> Merge (mask 1 fed into the GREEN node) -> Merge(2nd mask).....continue until all masks appended - > fed into the green node of MatteControl
Intéressant

how can i apply a mask over a video for example like a background or arm while keeping the rest of the frame together
⚡⚡⚡You are a freaking life saver - do you realize this??? THANK YOU CASEY!!!!⚡⚡⚡
The energy in this
*One half insanely pumped*
_the other half rotting inside_
Wow!
what if the background is another clip? How do i mask part of a clip eg a person into that clip?
is this good for sky replacement? or will it look to fake??
Great video. Hoping to get Studio later this month. Is there a way to introduce shadow under the dog to ad greater realism, most likely it would depend on ones CPU, etc, but is it possible to add multiple subjects in the frame using magic mask? Thanks.
Makes no sense to me. When I select the poly mask, the image disappears in fusion
You need to actually make the mask for it to show. or, before making the mask, click on "inverted" in the polygon inspector and then make the mask. after you make it, uncheck the invert button.
boost 💪
Sorry this just is NOT a clear tutorial. I am trying to mask out a part of my video, and move it to another part, however when I do that, it erases the rest of the video that isn't masked, and also when I try to move said mask, it doesn't drag that part of the video with it.
I can't get transparency to work that way. Either it removes everything or nothing
Struggling with trying to do the same thing over a video background. Not sure how that works as my understanding of the “background” node only allows a still image? Help I’m new at this! 😂
So @ 2:29 I can duplicate masks to make more interesting thumbnails?
New watermark style 😋😋
Matte Control with rotoscoping?
Anyone else singing "Matte Control to Major Tom, take your protein pills and put your helmet on"....?
This technically is good for video also
Yikes! After watching this video I feel like that groom that is about to bail on his bride - lol.
anyone have any idea how to move multiple text in the viewer like just selecting multiple things in the viewer and moving them
Can I make my thumbnail the background
i would strongly recommend u add the words MATTE CONTROL to your title
What happens if we push THIS button..?
wow elbows
please do a tuturial on how to make a moving anime lines background
667th like... the devil must be pissed about now....
Good luck rotoscoping the cats if they were moving.😴 It is extremely time consuming and not really accurate. Shame davinci puts "fusion" related things in the colour page but doesnt care to add it in the fusion page.🤔😪
Thanks for your videoes.🙃
Funny guy 😄

5:50 alt+drag = arm
The color of the node I put means something?! It's like quicksand... the more I learn the more ignorant I feel.
would have been great if you said "the node that node-one wanted"
all those node intead of just cutting the catshead in photshop and make copy of them all and move them around.. fusion is good but they need to simplyfied...
That seems overly complicated to me! the first way in my opinion is easier to understand.
10 sec in aftereffect 1 hour in davinci !!!!
Pack up my what??
Don't love cat's I love my komondor.
This is far more confusing in my mind
oh god its so dumb that in fusion things that take 2 minutes in after effects tend to take 15...
Dogs rule.
HEllooooo......
This gives me a headache. Something that takes minutes and is so intuitive and easy in AE, requiring no tutorial takes about an hour of searching YT to find how to do in Fusion.
This is really confusing.
You're not centered!!!!
Lol
Do you spend half the video talking about the stuff that you want to get rid of because mattes are easier. I wanted to hear about mattes. Talk about the other stuff in a separate video, or at least get to the point faster
I think there are too many cats in the internet, that's annoying
great video anyway
Your tutorials are great mate, but who told you acting like a 10 year old was a good idea? Is this a new thing in America? Keep up the great work, but skip the child play...please 🙈
