- Sarah Fisher christened the new dirt track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Wednesday in preparation for next week's BC39 USAC midget race in honor of Bryan Clauson.
Fisher, who got her start in winged sprinters on the dirt before setting a track record at Winchester in a midget in the mid-90s, drove one of the three cars she's got entered and gave the new quarter-mile track a big thumbs up after a few hot laps on a hot afternoon. "It's got progressive banking and combined with running at night I think it's going to be a great show, midgets always are on a quarter-mile," said the seven-time Indy 500 starter who now operates the Speedway Karting go-kart track in downtown Speedway.
USAC competition director Levi Jones also weighed in on the race that has over 100 entries and runs Sept. 5-6. "I was hoping for 65," said the five-time USAC sprint champ. "But it just shows you the power of IMS because everybody wants to race here."
NBCSN will televise a one-hour special on the inaugural midget show on Sept. 7 following NASCAR America.

Thats what Indy car need back to its roots!
We need Sara Fisher back in an Indycar!
LOVE IT!!! Used to watch Sarah race at Haubstadt.. she was amazing her 100lbs throwing a 900 hp sprint car around that track. I hadn't heard a word of this but would make the drive from Evansville to be there... Keep up the publicity!
Berlin Raceway outside of Grand Rapids MI is turning their pavement into a dirt track for the entire month of September. They'll be running ethanol late models, ethanol modifieds and sprints on three consecutive weekends.
I would love to go to a race there the night before the 500.
Indianapolis Raceway Park is where they need more racing...
Unless, it's gone too...
Thanks Robin Miller for real racing news...
A Sprint week and a midget week show. Good luck to the Fisher teams. Used to watch her dad run sprints at Atomic Speedway in Ohio.
Robin Miller for president.
This is awesome
Brian would be proud
Robin for Indycar President! What's his take on the 2019 schedule?
Love the Eagle shirt Robin
Sarah is good people. Back in the day she did me a solid with tickets for the IRL race in KY. Sat with her folks. She drove well. Sent her a thank you on email and she went out her way to hunt me down as a Toyota Atlantic mechanic at a CART race to thank me for thanking her!! I'll never forget that about her. Thanks again Sarah, hope to catch you at the kart track with my son.
Grampa makes this video uncomfortable to watch.

4:12 OK. Suits belong at The Philadelphia Orchestra. Suits belong at an Indianapolis Law Firm. Forty years ago my Great Uncle would go crabbing in a suit. But suits do not belong at a dirt track! Next thing you know Gas City will have a wine bar. Open wheels on a dirt track are Dingus Bar & Beerhill . Hope it stays that way.
True, but Doug Boles has to. It's part of his honoring IMS. I would suggest you listen to his Dinner With Racers episode. The man really understands the importance of the Speedway and its heritage.
Chris Trott Sorry to confuse Mr. Boles with a suit from central casting. Glad he isn't the sort of person who being introduced to the members of the musical group that would produce "Dark Side of the Moon" asked "Which one is Pink?"
