- Happy feast of Pentecost! Come Holy Spirit!
As Catholics, we acknowledge that God is a trinity of persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, but who exactly is the third person of the Trinity? We might wonder where the Holy Spirit even appears as we read Sacred Scripture.
Today, Fr. Dempsey opens up the Scriptures for us, exploring where the Holy Spirit is mentioned in the Bible.
Fr. Dempsey Acosta is an adjunct professor of Biblical Theology and holds the Miller Endowed Chair of Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. After earning degrees in Philosophy and Education from the Universidad Católica Cecilio Acosta en Maracaibo, Venezuela, he obtained a Bachelor of Theology (S.T.B.) from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, a degree in Biblical Sciences and Biblical Languages (S.S.L.) from the Pontifical Biblicum Institute in Rome, and a Doctorate in Sacred Theology: Biblical Studies (S.T.D.) from the Pontifical Gregorian University.
Since 2008, Fr. Dempsey has been a peritus (theological advisor) and consultant of the American Bible Society in the Presidential Liaison and Roman Catholic Ministry Department. He has also served as an expert consultant for Biblical translations with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Ascension was blessed to collaborate with Fr. Dempsey on the year-long podcast La Biblia en un Año (con Fray Sergio Serrano, OP (ua-cam.com/channels/8vi.html....

Dearest Father, thank you so very much for this explanation. I have been approached by so many non-Catholics who tell me the most outrageous lies about our faith. I seek not to argue but to defend the Word of our Father. Even armed with knowledge, I still continue to walk away and pray that this division among Christians comes to a stop. 🙏🏻✝️
You are correct not to argue with them because unfortunately, the vast majority of those people are not interested in learning what Catholicism actually teaches. They are only interested in accusations and repeating the lies they have heard from others. Continue to pray that God will work in their hearts.
@@yb5515Amen 🙏🏻✝️
I am a non catholic and have learned so much from these videos (and The Bible in a Year). I agree that non Catholics believe many lies- I was taught or told these lies until I actually read and heard WHY you believe what you do. Almost all do it I agree with and love that there is scripture to back it up (and tradition).
Don’t waste your time answering anyone, live your faith with God through the Holy Spirit , enjoy your journey with God 🙏🏾
Fr. Dempsey teachings are very simple to understand. God bless Ascension Presents
Thank you Father Dempsey . Your faith filled Evangelization of Holy Spirit is inspiring and filled with identity of the three persons acting as one is enlightening. God bless you.
Father Dempsey went to school in my home town of Maracaibo, that’s so awesome!
Thank you Father 🙏🏼
Thank you for explaining this to us again. It is hard to explain to people, even Catholics, the "three persons in one God" fact of our religion. This is perfect.
379 times in the NT. That’s a lot more than I thought. Thanks for this deeper dive, Father Dempsey.
Thank you, Father Dempsey! This week for Pentecost our Choir will sing a new piece written by our Music Director, which focuses on 'the Wind' aspect. I had never thought of this before! Also grateful for your explanation of ALL. THREE acting from the very Beginning. We tend to think of Jesus and the Holy Spirit manifesting late, with Christ's Birth and the event of Pentecost.
Wonderful, Fr. Dempsey! Thank you so much
God has so many beautiful names in the Bible! Thank you!
Thank you so much Fr you made the feast of Penticost special and deep with this excellent explanation.
I really enjoyed this, thank you!
Through the Spirit is the ascension of hearts...and, the highest goal of all, becoming God. ~St. Basil the Great
God bless, Fr. Dempsey! 😀✝👍✝
Loved your wonderful explanation of the Holy Spirit and it presence in those two words in the Old and New Testament
Thank you Father Dempsey - Grateful.❤ KH.
Thanks Fr. Informative lecture
Thank you, Father, for your teaching.🙏.
Thank you, Father.
"GOD created the heavens and the earth" "Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the SPIRIT of God was hovering over the surface of the waters." "And they heard the voice of the LORD God WALKING in the garden in the cool of the day" if you are walking you have legs, whose legs Jesus Christ's legs...Trinity!
Thank you Father for that beautiful explanation! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Praise to you God and Jesus Christ😇🙏❤
Thank you for sharing your insights.
I love your enthusism as a teacher.
Muchas gracías!
👍❤ Garcias Padre 😉
Wow! 👏🏻nicely explained, Father!
Thanks Father for the inspiring sharing 🙏
Can you make a video on why catholics pray to the arc angel St. Micheal and not to God directly? I am on a spiritual journey and my views are aligning more and more with the Catholic Church each day. However I am really so confused about the prayer to the angles based on Colossians 2 verse 18. Please help and provide Guidance/clarity.
This was so helpful and interesting!!! 💙💙💙
Gracias ☝️💯💯
Thank you so much for this! So, I have asked this to different priests, and I always get a new interesting answer, so I'd like to ask you: as the Holy Spirit has been present since the beginning, what happens during Pentecost - in which way does the Holy Spirit come that is different from how he was present in the Old Testament? And why did Jesus say that he had to go, in order for the Holy Spirit to come?
Everywhere❤
First!
Exciting.
