Game Description:
You are Dave, a hyena who just finished his final year of schooling along with a few of his friends. What better way to end the school year than to spend it at an all expenses paid stay at a luxury mansion for a whole month? After all, after this month, everyone's going to be moving away to focus on their chosen paths in life, so this is the last time that everyone's going to be together for a long way.
Will romance flourish in the time spent isolated in a mansion, living the high life? Or is this all an elaborate ploy by someone pulling the strings at the mansion itself that just sees the group as a bunch of playthings for something much more sinister? Expect a story full of questions and mysteries as the friends suffer through tragedy, death, and a looming threat that grows ever closer all while trying to remember the nicer times in their lives before everything may come to an abrupt end.
Characters will die, decisions must be made, and shying away from the consequences of such will only make the journey forward harder. Can you change their fate by using the mysterious vault that seemingly wants a password to open? Is this your one salvation to save everyone?

18:38 - I think at one point it was said his mother might have been a dog rather than a wolf (well, dogs are still wolves, but you know what I mean), so I think the implication is supposed to be he has internalised racism stemming from his maternal abandonment issues, but this is Password, and by now we all know better than to assume such thought was put into the writing. Also, given we’ve seen in the other routes how inconsistent backstories and the main plot is, I wouldn’t put it past this VN for it to sometimes be the aforementioned racism, and other times being he’s just that dumb, and either one can be in play at anytime.
Yeah, charitable read is that it ties back to his mom and her abandonment. Uncharitable is that this group's rasicm is less of a joke and Tyson has a thing against dogs too.

@@elrhunadan Like the rest of the writing, it doesn't make sense when you think about it.
Interestingly in the rewrite, it seems any instance of Tyson calling Dave Pup is replaced with Stripes. Maybe it's to remove the canine connection, maybe it is to stress Dave being a hyena more. Maybe the writer learned about pup play and realized Tyson using that had certain connotations.

i do believe that was the explanation given to it, but similar to how dave and tyson suddenly become brothers that have lived toghether with each other for awhile halfway in the story, it's very possible that was added as an afterthought

So Tyson dug up a rifle and then the narrative forgot about it? Or you think this was where the one half of the Gemini medal was?
@Zept-01 no, I just don't remember what I read. I thought this scene was that Tyson found a gun and buried it there. I think I just misinterpreted the scene.
1:09:28 - for the sake of sanity, I think the most plausible explanation is that originally the characters were supposed to be college aged and for some reason, that got changed at some point, and the author just never bothered to change this bit to reflect that. That would also make the Dean stuff a little less sketchy if originally Dave was in his twenties. 🤔
Fun little factoid from the Dean playthrough: The Dean rewrite version of the game has a Compendium in its menu. It actually lists character ages and bios in it, so its not left up to speculation any more.
As for the college thing, I would agree if the characters weren't written like children. Can't even say it is just supposed to them being teenagers cause Dean and Sal don't make much sense either. Lets not forget that Sal doesn't know what salads are.
@@Zept-01the characters being written like children is probably down to bad writing, so I don’t think it can really be used as evidence for their ages either way.
Ngl, stuff like the salad thing made me think that maybe Sal was special needs or at the very least, on the spectrum, at first combined with maybe being somewhat sheltered, but then everyone else becoming written increasingly more deranged and I realised that it was just more examples of bad writing.

@@TrinexxSlayer Hadn't thought about that being a clumsy species feature moment. Makes a little more sense when framed that way, but such an insane way to present it.
@Zept-01 it's very much a shot in the dark, because the whole cast is carnivores. Except for the Hammonds and Jack. So I doubt that's actually the case.
2:41:37 i think this scene must have been rewritten. it always defaults to dean as who daves ends up with in the early bad ends, because he was the canon romantic interest, but tyson became the most popular route later on.
Is interesting to hear that the early sections had some form of rewrite over the development of the game. Maybe thats why Tyson is so forward despite this being Roswell's route.
26:00 so day 1, when you select each place to check out, the maze option would be keith. similar to dean admiring the conservatory for plants, and hoss in the greenhouse for people.

Keith, please, Toaster is, noticeably, spiritually and emotionally broken at this point, probable even physically to some degree, either you let him go from this torture called Password, or you make a compilation of every time a part of his soul left his body for monetization and entertainment
if you make a compilation of that you will just get the whole playthrough with zero cuts
6:12:40 florencia is roswell's mother with oswin. yes, she is adopted, but roswell is a child of siblings. that's the whole point why oswin was keeping his fatherhood to roswell a secret.

They probably could have avoided the pseudo-incest if Florencia was just a close childhood friend. Maybe from another respected/rich boar family the Hammond patriarch wanted his sons to spend time with. Could maybe had it be she was in an arranged marriage with Reginald before he died.

@MrRadar honestly, I don't mind it on this one. They actually treat it like a taboo. It's the Dave x Tyson that gets weird with it.

4:32 for anyone who might be daunted by this description, it's actually really easy to link across files! renpy can handle it natively, you just need to point to the new label with jump, just like any passage
it's not made very clear in most places, but it saves so much headache.
also OTL now i really want nice stationary. I'm a fountain pen collector technically (I only have 3) but I don't have any papers that work well with the ink!! hell world.

Its also weird that I don't think there is a password for day 2. Pretty sure days 1, 3 & 4 do, but 2 is an outlier. Really though, it is another thing this game forgets to utilize, especially in the second act.

Also known for there being a vigorous divide in the fandom over whether the character has a glass eye or not because the actor did, but it’s never acknowledged in the show if the the character has one.
I couldn't remember why I recalled so little about Roswell's route, but after watching this it's clear again.
If it wasn't a known factor that all the Routes were written simultaneously, I'd say that Roswell has traces of being written as the first route. It has some unique things about it, from its murder happening earlier, its relationship gets an early start, a unique flashback sprite, some unique coding for its text and maybe the most CGs. Unfortunately, that all becomes superficial when you notice that most of Roswell's dialog is included in the other routes too. While he does have unique scenes, they're really just slice of life that don't expand the plot or the reader's understanding of Roswell. Doesn't help that it also has unique dialogue of Tyson flirting and trying to be more social. Is an odd addition.
The boar's route is essentially the plot, so it makes you wonder why he has next to nothing to stand on. Beyond just the character writing, I think one thing that got in the way was Roswell being the Mastermind. If he was ever open or honest about what was going on, it would kill what little intrigue there is in the early days. With that being the case, the boar can't offer anything meaningful until the plot is ready to reveal this. If Oswin, Thanatos or Florenica were the Mastermind, then maybe Roswell's narrative could have more legs to stand on.

(I blame the vrchat memes) After so many hours of this madness, I feel rather qualified to say Keith and Toaster are Based Af.
