February 19, 2024- Grey seal #24-002 release & Harp seal relocation

Happy Release Day!
On Monday our male Grey seal, who originally stranded in Sea Bright on January 12th, was ready to be released after spending over six weeks in our hospital. Originally stranding as an underweight pup, he now weighs a healthy 86lbs. The healthy juvenile seal was tagged #65 on his left rear flipper for future identification and released at the North Brigantine Natural Area. Thank you to all of our supporters for giving him his second chance!
Joining him was a female Harp seal that was found in Atlantic City with a small wound. After being brought in for an assessment, it was determined that she was healthy and the minor wound was healing, so she did not need to be admitted for medical treatment. Using a non-toxic livestock marker that will fade over time, she was marked #1 on her head. If she is spotted again on another beach, this number lets us know that we have already checked on her.
