Thank you! I had already tried all of the steps you mentioned EXCEPT I didn't notice a tiny needle hole near the "hook" part of the bobbin case. I filed it down with an emery board and now it works! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much. I knew the problem involved the top threading but couldn’t figure it out. In 5 minutes your video was the answer, needle up and foot up did it.
Thank you!!!!! Thank you, thank you!!!! I was about to cry. I’ve had my machine for a year and made fleece hats for Christmas and didn’t realize it needed to be cleaned out. Once again thank you
Thank you so much - this four year old video just saved me a bunch of money. My two year old Babylock Brilliant kept binding up tight. With your instruction, I opened it up and found the needle was punching through the bobbin case! Fixed all that and cleaned it up and so far, so good. I still don't know why that was happening, but for now I'm on my way again 😁
Thank you so much! Helped fix my problem without having to pay a ton of money and be without my machine while it gets serviced for a second time in 5 months!!
I failed to thank you for the tips in the video! Your instructions were clear and concise! I will try cleaning underneath and give it a try again! Thank you so much for your instructions and I have subscribed to your channel and told a couple of my sewing-friends about you too!
Thanks so much for walking me through the reinstall for the bobbin threader. I’m a new sew-er and still just getting familiar with my Presto 2. Whew! Your video was a lifesaver. 👍🏼
Having serious thread shredding so gonna try several things. Love your shop. Am in Morganton and come to you for all my needs. Hopefully I can solve this issue. Drives me nuts
Oh my gosh! You are a sewing Baby Lock savior! I had no idea the grey plate can come off with out unscrewing the silver plate 🤦♀️ i was getting thread nest under my fabric. Because i didn't but the bobbin thingy right with the dots connected. Yikes!!! I was in panic mode because i have a huge order to fulfill. After following your tips. My baby lock is back to normal. Gosh!!! You made a huuuuuge difference in my day! Thaaaaank you!!! Definitely gonna subscribe now!! Yaneri 🥰
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS INFO!!! I just ran into some trouble with my Brilliant automatic threader not working and your tips literally did the trick! Now I don’t have to make a service trip to my local dealer and I’m back to sewing again!! You’re a life saver 💜
Very nicely explained. One thing the Babylock Customer Support told me once was the the thread spool must always be placed with the thread coming forward from BELOW the spool. Hope that helps someone. Thank you for your video.
Subscribed! So thankful for your video. I spent time, I thought, doing all these things, but I tell ya, i just followed your directions exactly, and this time it worked 🤷🏼♀️🧡. Maybe I was skipping some steps. Thank you!
Thanks so much for this video! I’d already tried pretty much every step you listed to fix my machine and my thread was still getting caught on the lower bobbin arm catcher thing (the metal rod with the curved cutout where the upper bobbin thread catches the lower thread) but somehow while watching your video whatever had misaligned itself magically realigned itself and it was fixed just like that. Hahaha, somehow my machine responded to your magic touch vicariously and fixed itself in the process, no idea how or what exactly was off but thanks!
I'm just now seeing comments because I'm not a UA-cam guru. LOL. But I had to respond to you. This happens ALL THE TIME at my shop. lol. It's like the machines know I'm the boss! hee hee
Thank you! I follow the others to say they didn’t know the plates came off like that very good information!! Thank you again! About min 8, you talked about the needle threader. LOVE THAT FEATURE when it worked . I’m having issues with my threader. I don’t think I’ve had two smaller needle ( 14’s only), but it’s not threading m. I gave up and got my fat hand in to thread the needle.
My needle threader stopped working the other day. I did all this then looked above the needle. Where the take up lever is there was lint. I used a cleaning tool to remove fluff. After that, threader worked fine.
I know it's been a year now... I didn't even know I had comments on the video! lol. But make sure the needle threader is in the up position using the up/down button. Make sure you're using a size 80/12 or larger needle. If it doesn't work at that point, the tiny little hook is bent. You can get a magnifier and cell phone light to look at it (or in my case someone who has much better eyes than me) and bend it back to center using a tiny flat head screwdriver. Sometimes it's just beyond repair because it's bent so crooked and you'll need a new one. Good luck!
I have always been told to never pull the top thread out backwards. Cut the thread at the spool and pull it out of the machine from the needle. Pulling the thread backwards can damage the threading path.
Hi Ruth, I know it's been years since you posted this. I didn't even realize I had comments because I'm so UA-cam challenged! lol. Yes, cutting the thread and pulling it through the bottom is the best way for thread to travel through a machine. If I feel ANY resistance at all while pulling it backwards, I stop and pull the other direction! However, having owned a sewing machine shop for almost 27 years, I hardly ever come across anyone who has damaged their machine by pulling the thread out backwards. Thread does sometimes get stuck in the takeup lever or sometimes in the check spring (it looks like a little paper clip straight down below the takeup lever). I see that occasionally, but I'm not sure why it has happened to a particular customer. Thanks for the reminder to pull the thread out the other direction. I'm so used to doing it the other way I'll probably never remember. :-) Happy sewing!
Thank you so much!! My threading path wasn't grabbing the thread and I made certain I first dusted my bobbin nest and then put my thread and presser foot in the upper position to upper thread and waalah!, I am back in business!! ( embroidering Harry Potter crests onto future little wizard robes for grand daughter's 8th birthday).
I stumbled onto your video on home-maintenance for BabyLock sewing machine. The machine looked very much like my Flourish II. Just yesterday I had trouble which the following statement appeared in the window: "the safety device has been activated. Is the tread tangled? is the needle bent? Didn't break needle but replaced it. Thread is bunching up under the bobbin. Have turned off machine for 15 minutes. My project is: embroidery on a rope coaster using just a single initial; I've already done 10 seamlessly. Using a Jean needle. I have slowed the machine to 500 (just on the last attempt. Has been hard to find the screen on how to do that). How do I unlock the machine? I bought the machine just as Covid was shutting down companies. I got one lesson under the belt b4 they closed. I have just started regularly using the machine a couple of months ago and haven't had issues. I just heard I was supposed to take the machine in yearly for a check-up (is that right? or how many stitches you've done?). Dealer didn't tell me to do that so, I haven't done it. Please help me if you can. Sorry for the long text!
Hi! I know it's been almost a year since your post. I didn't even know I had comments! lol. It is recommended that you have the machine serviced once a year although some of my customers wait a little longer and others come in sooner. The "safety device is activated" alarm is basically just shutting down the system because something is jammed. That keeps the machine from putting stress on the circuit board, so it's a good thing. Hopefully you've got it going by now but if this happens again, just remove the bobbin case and make sure the handwheel can move freely. Clean in there, check the bobbin case for nicks and damage, put it all back together, and typically it will work. Good luck!

Thank you so much! My needle is hitting the metal circle case that the black bobbin holder sits in. How do I adjust it so the needle will go all the ways down and not hit the sliver case?
Hi! I know it's been almost a year since your post. I didn't even know I had comments! lol. If your needle is hitting the bobbin case, unfortunately, that's a service call. Good luck to you!
Thank you so much for this video. Please see if you can answer my question, maybe you make another video on this subject. My needle is not centered anymore. So: How can we center the needle ? I found various videos in this subject but for different machine which are not the same as Babylock. I have a Brilliant model. TYIA for any help you can provide !
Hi! I know it's been almost a year since your post. I didn't even know I had comments! lol. If the needle isn't centered, unfortunately, that's a service call. UNLESS.... you have the width control setting turned on. Some models have a setting that allows you to use the speed limit slider to move the needle position. If you have that turned on, the needle will move side to side when you move the speed slider. Good luck!
@@ashevillecottonco Thank you for replying. After I struggled a lot, read almost the entire machine book to see if I find any instructions, sent messages to different people including you… I got tired. So, I turned the machine off. When I look at needle, without expecting anything to happen… the needle repositioned itself in center. I was… wow !?!? And obvious I was curious what happens if I turn the machine on again. Guess what ? The needle stayed in center. I turned the machine off and on again just to make sure I’m not dreaming and the needle was still in center. So, it fixed itself just by turning off and on. Have a great day !
I cleaned my bobbin area "everytime" I start my day of sewing. The last 2 days have thread breakage and stitching is skipping. I've changed thread, needles triple cleaned gain. I have hated this machine since purchased 7 years ago. It was serviced in April of this year 2024.
I'm so sorry to hear this! If you've tried polyester thread and size 80/12 needles on two layers of quilting cotton and you're still having problems, you may have a nick on your bobbin case. Take it out and really look at it closely to see if a needle has struck it. Sometimes you can buff it out with a fine nail buffing sponge, and sometimes you need to get a new one. Good luck!
I know it's been years since you posted. I didn't even know I had comments! lol. You'll be looking for Babylock or Brother Embroidery Cards. They're no longer made, but you can find them on Etsy and Ebay. The newer machines have a USB port or wi-fi so that you can download designs from the internet. Have fun!
You have a message on yours how do you get it off? Needle threader did not work either. T ook me over an half hour to thread by hand. I shld never have bought this machine.
Thank you. It looked like you pulled your thread from the top. The diagram on my baby lock has you pull it from the bottom. Does that matter with cross wound thread?
I know it's been years since you posted, but I didn't even know I had comments! lol. My customers and I never have problems with the thread going one direction or the other as long as we use quality thread. Mettler, Aurifil, Cotton + Steel, etc. If you have trouble with a random thread, you may have to play with the direction because some threads actually untwist as they are sewn into the seam if they're going the wrong way on the spool holder. good luck!
@@ashevillecottonco thanks! I use quality thread and not had an issue either, but it's kind of a hot topic in a group I'm in. So I was curious your take....
I am having trouble with my bobbin casing. My thread is jamming up on the bottom. I’ve tried resetting tension. I’ve tried cleaning out the Bob and I don’t know if I put the bobbin back in wrong or if it’s I’m not quite sure how to put it back in since it does not show you this in the book. Maybe you can help me in this area I sure need it.
Hi my question is why wouldn’t my bottom bobbin thread come up when I’m trying to free motion quilt. I have checked and rechecked all the steps and the bottom bobbin thread will not come up. I have the blm melody baby lock. I would appreciate any feedback you might have. Thank you.
Hi! I know it's been almost a year since your post. I didn't even know I had comments! lol. Babylock has a UA-cam channel and also Love of Sewing classes that you can purchase. Don't limit yourself to just the Tempo videos, though. Most of the BabyLock machine videos will pertain to your machine, especially Brilliant, Lyric, Soprano, Presto, and the older models including Decorator's Choice, Quilter's Choice and probably some others I'm forgetting. Have fun!
The issue that I have with my Baby Lock Unity machine is that it stops every 22 stitches. Then my screen has a message that states to retread the upper thread. I have rethreaded & this continues to happen every 22 stitches. I have this same issue with embroidery and straight stitching. Is there anything I can do on my own to fix this?
Hello, could you possibly help me? I have a babylock brilliant and everything I cut my thread when I'm finished sewing, it won't cut all the way off. I have to end up pulling it off. What am I doing wrong??
My Brilliant does this sometimes. Usually it needs a good cleaning under the throat plate remoce the screws and the netal & plastic plates, then remove the bobbin & race and clean it out. The cutter is to the left of the needle where there is a litle brush area. That usually works for me
I have the exact same machine Lyric and have kept taking it in for repair and unless I’m too old to sew I need some help on trying to fix this on my own with your help! I can’t get the threader to work and I also have Trouble trying to quilt with it! Please help if you can. I’m in Canada and have been sewing for 58 yrs.
Hi, would you by chance now how to help with my babylock sofia 2, the sewing machine is sewing in reverse, I am wandering if my reverse button is stuck, do you have any ideans of what I can do
I had the bobbin door off and now that is on my screen and can't get it off. Machine won't sew and I have had for years never used it. I know its because I do not know how to use it. I unplugged it and all to get that message of the screen to no avail.
I have a Babylock Presto II. What code on the front panel should I use for a pretty straight stitch? My machine is currently set at 3.5 and 2.0, but my stitches look like they run together on the top of the fabric. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Have you looked in your settings pages? There is a line called fine stitch adjustment or something like that. My Baby Lock is a Brilliant. The setting guide is on the right side of the screen on mine, at the top. The icon looks like a page with the corner turned down.
Thank you!! I have been using my Babylock Verve and it was sewing not quite straight...i had not cleaned it, ever. Oops! I followed your steps and cleaned it out with the brush and followed up with a hairdryer on low to blow out remainders. I was amazed at how much fiber dust was in there.
Just bought new baby lock jubilant and received 3 weeks ago. Worked fine right away. When I used it yesterday the foot pedal when plugged in gave an f4 error message. The finger power worked fine. I called the company and they are replacing it, but I’m concerned it will happen again. Have you heard of this issue from others?
Hi! I know it's been years since your post. I didn't even know I had comments! lol. An f4 error is pretty rare unless you plug in the wrong foot control, so I'll bet you'll never see that again!
Hi! Please help me. I have a baby lock brilliant. I just cleaned it . I removed the needle plate just like you did to gently clean with a brush. Suddenly when I start sewing it won't let me use any other stitch patterns other than the straight stitch no.3. Whatever I press, the other patterns it would stay on no.3 stitch needle position. can't do any zigzag or any decorative stitch. Whenever I would press the decorative stitch patterns category it will say "TURN OFF THE POWER AND REPLACE THE NEEDLE PLATE." I tried turning it off and taking off the needle plate and put it back on but it will still give me the same problem. would you know what I could do to fix it? Please help me! Thank you!!!
I have a piece of thread stuck in the threading system bu the #4 spot. I can grasp it, but it is stuck stuck stuck. I called a rep at the company and they told me to take it to the shop. I have had it for one month. It is probably due to having not threading it correctly. how can I get that piece of thread out? I can't use the machine with it in there.
Thank you. Great job! Possible to do a very close up of bli!nd hem foot and loading the fabric with that foot. Wish I saw this before spending $180. I was having a prob with tension. I'll now leave my machine with needle up and presser foot up!
HI! we are having issues with the safety device activated - it spend 8 weeks in the shop and they could not "replicate" the problem. Brought it home 100 buckspoorer and cannot sew more than an inch without the same problem. If you hold your hands completely away from the machine, it might sew 5 or 6 inches before the "safety device" is activiated. It has been a problem for a long time, I have given up on this very expensive machine. Any suggestions>?
Thanks for a great tutoring video - but HELP !!! I have this issue and Baby Lock technical support is horrendous! I susspect were "talking" to an artificial intelligence robot - they do not respond directly to queries ! Sorry letting off steam / Wonder if you can help me I switch on the unit (Crescendo Model BLCR ) and receive the message The Guideline Marker was not operating properly" then immediately got a second message saying "A malfunction occurred, turn off, then on" Then the screen freezes! No solution - any idea ? Thanks !! also to your youtube material !
My plate cover is on the right way it still says please attach plate cover on the screen can u please reply back ! Thanks happy Easter! Love your videos !
My put on the walking foot, but my needle shows in the middle, but when I look at it, it is in the far left position. I tried to move it but not working
My machine is clicking. I changed the needle. I cleaned it, adjusted the tension. But, it is still clicking and the thread keeps snapping or breaking. I adjusted it. But have no clue what wrong. I think I might need a new machine. Lol I make quilts and have 7 I have to finish before Christmas.
I have an old Ellageo Plus and I love it, but one problem I started having is the presser foot starts going up and down on it's own. I'll push the button to lower it and before I can start sewing it pops up again and then it will go up and down for a while. I have to wait until it stops for a minute and start sewing . Once I get going it's okay, but if I stop sometimes I have to wait quite a while for it to give me a chance to start sewing again. It's possessed! Anyone else ever have this trouble. My machine has the latest sofware and I'm not a constant sewer so sometimes it sits for a long while before I use it but I keep it protected.
I absolutely hate my Baby lock jubilant machine. I purchased it 5 years ago and have never been able to do much of anything with it. My main compliant is the presser foot holder which is impossible to get back on after it falls off. I have spent hours working on this. The screw is too short and for a left handed (or maybe every?) sewer it is migraine-inducing process to line up and tighten screw. I’m so sorry I ever purchased it.
I'm so sorry you don't care for your Jubilant. :-( My customers seem to love it! Your presser foot holder shouldn't really be falling off. Are you using a screwdriver to snug it a little bit when you put it on? If so, I wonder if you might want to find a new screw to see if it holds better? I've never run across that problem before! Good luck.
Hi!
You had me at “re-thread”.
Found out the hook was missed, all good now - thanks!
Thank you! I had already tried all of the steps you mentioned EXCEPT I didn't notice a tiny needle hole near the "hook" part of the bobbin case. I filed it down with an emery board and now it works! Thank you so much!
Thank you for this helpful information! I was ready to take it to a shop to be repaired. No need now! You just saved me $80! Sew on!
Thank you so much. I knew the problem involved the top threading but couldn’t figure it out. In 5 minutes your video was the answer, needle up and foot up did it.
Thank you! My needle was stuck and I took apart the whole bobbin apparatus. Then needed help putting it back together. Thank you!!
Thank you!!!!! Thank you, thank you!!!! I was about to cry. I’ve had my machine for a year and made fleece hats for Christmas and didn’t realize it needed to be cleaned out. Once again thank you
I work with fleece too!!! This video helped me SO much! I was i having a small crisis 🤣 which Machine do you have? I have the Aria.
This solved my problem! I had put my bobbin case back incorrectly. Did as you showed and I'm back in business. Thank you!

Omg thank you soooo much! Such a simple thing that was not in my entire Manual as far as I could tell.
Just found your page and I am so happy! I am still getting to know my Baby Lock Ellure Plus and a bit frustrated!

Good luck!

Thank you for replying.
Good luck!
I feel the same way about this machine and have had the same problem for 4 years. I will never buy another Baby lock.
Just that little knick was kicking my bobbin out?! Thank you for your help 🙏
Thanks for you video. I have a Baby Lock ESL. Do you know what type of software cartridges it uses to insert into the machine?
I know it's been years since you posted. I didn't even know I had comments! lol. You'll be looking for Babylock or Brother Embroidery Cards. They're no longer made, but you can find them on Etsy and Ebay. The newer machines have a USB port or wi-fi so that you can download designs from the internet. Have fun!
Thank you so very much. I never knew to do this. I’d been sewing tshirt quilts and polar fleece so my lint bunnies were hiding.
Great! I think it fixed my problem. Maybe it was the fluff?
I am having trouble with my bobbin casing. My thread is jamming up on the bottom. I’ve tried resetting tension. I’ve tried cleaning out the Bob and I don’t know if I put the bobbin back in wrong or if it’s I’m not quite sure how to put it back in since it does not show you this in the book. Maybe you can help me in this area I sure need it.
Thank you! Fixed it!
Hi my question is why wouldn’t my bottom bobbin thread come up when I’m trying to free motion quilt. I have checked and rechecked all the steps and the bottom bobbin thread will not come up. I have the blm melody baby lock. I would appreciate any feedback you might have. Thank you.
I am looking for videos on Baby Lock Tempo . I bought a used one. I printed the manual but tutorials would be awesome.
How do I keep my thread from knotting up when I first begin a seam

Hi, would you by chance now how to help with my babylock sofia 2, the sewing machine is sewing in reverse, I am wandering if my reverse button is stuck, do you have any ideans of what I can do
I have an Ellegro that will stay on only for a little bit of time when in use. But it will stay on when not in use. Any suggestions
I have baby lock sofia
To day bobin thread is not catching up
And fabric get stuck
Can I solve it?
Just three months ago I get serviced.
Thanks
My Babylock Symphony will not threads. (It used to). I have throughly cleaned it. Any suggestions?
Have you checked the error messages and the fixes in the back of the manual
I have a piece of thread stuck in the threading system bu the #4 spot. I can grasp it, but it is stuck stuck stuck. I called a rep at the company and they told me to take it to the shop. I have had it for one month. It is probably due to having not threading it correctly. how can I get that piece of thread out? I can't use the machine with it in there.
did you ever find out? I have the same issue
My hand wheel is stuck! Help. What can I do?
Have you removed it znd checked for thread inside it?
How do you turn off zigzag contoll?
Thank you.
I have a baby.locķ eclipse dx and suddenly 1 of the air ports is not feeding h is there so etching I can use to clear the fingers

What make your babylock have a tapping sound.
Help, what could be causing the needle and bobbin to make a clacking sound.

Suddenly got a "FO5" or "F05" (not certain if its an O or a zero) Error Message and machine (Baby Lock Designers Model) is locked. Help?
Could you teach how to clean and put oil on the whole machine?
Mechanical machines can be oiled but not computerized machines.
On my baby lock Jazz11 bring thread up to number 5-4 thread broke cant get to ouy too tight to pull
My put on the walking foot, but my needle shows in the middle, but when I look at it, it is in the far left position. I tried to move it but not working
how do you fix a crooked foot on my lyric babylock
My machine will only sew backwards... I'm really far from the nearest Baby Lock Repair; what can I do?
My baby lock brilliance lettering is all messed up can you help?
I cannot remove my needle plate? It’s stuck! Any suggestions?
If it's the metal plate, you'll have to unscrew it first. If it's the plastic part, open your tray in front, then try sliding it toward you.
My top thread will not pick up my bobbin thread. I have Babylock Jazz II
How do I replace the spool pin
I Have a Babylock Serenade It sews great But when i stop sewing and try to start again the computer shows error on screen.
It is about 12 yrs old.
It worked!!!
I saw in my guide book to use 75/11 needles
HOW MUCH IS THIS BABY LOCK
Good luck.
My Babyloc verve fabric gets stuck every time I sew
Thank you!
Thank you
