    I like the focus on ‘blocks’ you use, really helpful for beginners. One tip I’d suggest that’s missing from this video is what I call the ‘fourth finger rule’. It simplifies learning all the fingering for countless scales by reducing it to memorising just where finger 4 goes in each hand. As long as you follow all the other rules in this video, turning or tucking thumb when you run out of notes, never skipping fingers, only using your fifth finger for the outside notes of a scale, the fourth finger rule will sort out the rest, if it isn’t *the fourth finger note*, it must be either a thumb tuck or a third finger note, depending on the direction your hand is travelling.

    Great advice as always. Thank you. One tip I'll give you about Sketchup... make sure you use it EVERY DAY until you've completed your project.
    I used sketchup for more than 10 months daily (yes, every day) whilst designing my house. At the start I could just about create a cube. At the end I designed a fireplace, two bathrooms and a toilet, a complete kitchen (with walk-in pantry), entire staircase, technical room and last but most importantly.... my studio / office.
    By using sketchup I was able to 'live' in our house before we actually moved in. Using this program daily will allow you to pick up and add little design elements that you would completely miss otherwise. And the fact you are using real measurements allows you to plan things down to the mm. Even if for 10 minutes, make sure you use it every day. You will thank me later...

      Great stuff, thanks for the tip! Yes I'm only just starting to scratch the surface with it and need to use it more often, especially so the shortcuts become second nature!

    Very helpful thanks - i'm a mature student 1 year in and a couple of things i have experienced that i can share that may help. 1) Speed ! As an adult learner it feels as if you're ' doing it right ' if you can play fast - as you say - technique first - in blocks of fingers. 2) When playing scales my teacher advised saying out loud the sharp or the flat ( F major/G major ) as it's played but i also say the name of the scale - every repetition. 3) My first teacher didn't let me look at the keyboard but teacher No 2 ( different as chalk and cheese ) says either way if it works for you,and recommends viewing youtubes to increase my knowledge. 4) Both teachers recommend going back to the point where the mistake was made - not playing the piece/scale from the beginning as most of it - up to the point of the mistake doesn't need replaying.

    Can you also make a video how to play all chords as a block , with correct fingerings as well.

      I have a video on that, it will vary on what else you're playing though before/after the chord as to what the best finger choice is ua-cam.com/video/kLv9CutmoRs/v-deo.html

      Hi Jimmy! Yes all good thanks, still here. I have been working a lot recently on doing a major redesign of all my PDFs which is proving quite time consuming. Hoping to get to making videos ASAP but also busy planning/organising lots of stuff for the channel too so that I can hit the ground running when I do!

    Is it important to learn/play on weighted keys digital piano rather than just learning/playing on synth keys keyboards like psr series?

  • @thepianoplayer416
    @thepianoplayer416 Рік тому

    We all started by learning major & minor scales. You learn the music theory behind them. A basic major/ minor scale should only have 7 notes. The first & last note is 1 octave apart would sound similar. Not sure why a student would play more than 7 notes.
    People should be learning scales by ear than muscle memory. People should be able to hear the notes of a scale. First figure out the 7 notes. Run them with 1 finger correctly then work on using efficient fingerings.
