Finally a complete footage of a beatle recording a Beatles song! Finally! I just dont understand why that video is not in the official beatles or ringo channels
I'm a child of the 80s. But as I learned the drums. Ringo and Doug Clifford of CCR were my drum teachers. They taught me how to keep time. How to play for what the song needed.
@@Sgtwilsonn Lennon didn't reject it, he just never finished it. Sometimes "demos" lay around awhile and in 1977 Lennon was not yet ready to make a "proper" record. Harrison rejected it because at the time they could not separate Johns voice and it sounded awful.
@@Mozart1220 Lennon abandoned it and worked on other things instead. It was crap then and it’s crap now. It’s barely a song it’s half an idea for a song. It’s garbage.
He really only used tea towels for a brief period. He started using them regularly during the Lady Madonna and Hey Bulldog sessions and into the White Album in 1968. And then continued to use them into the mid 70s, maybe around 74 or 75.
Ringo is such a gift to music and to the the world. To think that he's been playing in bands for +/- 70 years, always holding the rhythm section together and keeping front line right on time. I love how he holds his sticks rather loosely while slappin' the sh* t out of those skins, never missing a beat, rock steady and suddenly flourishing. Ringo is a genius and it's no wonder he has so many millions of fans ✌♥ .

Siempre impecable, con el toque preciso y su tan personal estilo. El inefable Sir Richard Starkey.
Shakin' a tambourine (11:31) continuously for that length of time is NOT that easy. The repetition can be VERY tiring, because you're mainly using the wrist.
Guy's got wrists of steel. Drumming from 1954/55-1964 gave him some serious guns...after that he was *easily* the best-built Beatle. Look at Ringo now: those ropy 83-y-o arms are as strong as titanium!
Looks like a bonham maple kit. That looks like a 26 bass. Wow! Those are very BIG drums. Loud too. Go ringo! Just got my LM-402 snare and love the beast!🥁
I still wish they would’ve kept the original bridge of this song. The “I don’t wanna lose you. Oh no” part that was on the original demo. I’ve found a couple remixes of the song where it was put back in.
I think I remember Giles Martin saying he took Ringo’s drum recording and played it through speakers in Abbey Road studio two to get the room ambience. Generally don’t like GM’s mix though, everything is too loud and he killed all the dynamics/separation. His dad would have done it very differently I think.
Giles did not mix Now And Then, it was Spike Tent, Giles only did the Atmos version after the stereo was done, and it sounds a lot better (it still was limited because it has to be very close to the stereo one) Had Giles actually mixes Now and Then it would probably sound a lot better
Sadly, Giles had no control over the mastering, which is where a lot of the dynamics were lost. The mastering on the 12" single has the most natural dynamics.
@@EltonoutoftheclosetOfficial really? I’d be seriously pissed off if I gave a mastering engineer a nice dynamic mix and came back squashed to hell like that.
@404TVfr yes, I didn’t realise GM only mixed the Atmos. I still think the stereo mix must have been pretty compressed before mastering, that’s a brutal job the mastering engineer has done if not.
@404TVfr How do you know that? It must have been done under instruction because no mastering engineer would do that without being specifically asked to. Have you heard the mix before mastering? Listen to the piano in the intro - I’d wager that was already smashed to shit before the mastering engineer ever got his hands on it.
It's a shame the camera doesn't have a limiter... I mean it probably DOES, just the fellow using it didn't click the button and has it set for conversational levels. Eek.
This is the way music is recorded these days. Rare to have everyone together. My bandmates all live in the same area and we do it this way. Incredible, right?
I tolerate my electronic Drums only b/c I live in an apartment. I miss and have a blue Ludwig Vistalite kit so a bit jealous of the FULL SIZED Drums here. wah
he's still very solid. he's not going to play like when he was 20 and complete a whole album in one day or nail a full song in one take like used to, but he's fine.
How do they have a (presumably) professional engineer there and not know how to run a line from the mixing console to the camera audio input? So we can hear what's being recorded instead of only using the camera's mic?
Paul said he thought he could do it better. Ringo used brushes on the backing track (though some footage does show him using sticks too. Maybe the drums sounded too 90s Lynne?

I was cracking up when I heard that!
I was hoping he would do the iconic "Tomorrow Never Knows" pattern.
What a priviledge to see Ringo legend record drums for the last Beatle song. It gives me sort of a feeling. Master piece it turned out to be.
It’s a garbage song both Lennon and Harrison rejected.

Cool to be able to find something so young that you can do your whole life successfully as Ringo has.
Ringo's play isn't overloaded with too many sounds, yet his beat is awesome. Each sound is so juicy. Very recognisable.

One of these days he’s gonna surprise everyone and play jazz or polyrhythmic math metal
Surprised there’s not another drummer playing along with him.
Way less common when recording and no way would that have happened on a Beatles recording, least of all the ‘last one’
