    Drones can be effective for low-volume goods, such as the end products of most factories or items bound for orbit. Trains are ideal for massive volume items such as ores and ingots, but require massive amounts of space to operate. Trucks are a pretty good all-round option, with the added advantage that they can generally utilize normal ground paths under most circumstances and thus don't require a lot of space/infrastructure and can move moderate volumes of items across long distances.

      Train stations can require a lot of space, but tracks don't have to compete for space with other things if you place them over trees, rocks, lakes, etc., where you would not build a factory or run a vehicle. A disney monorail isn't build on the sidewalk if you get my meaning.

      How do you ensure they always have fuel?
      Say you want to setup a truck line far away from your fuel production, how do you get fuel over there so the trucks can keep running forever?

    • @NYKevin100
      @NYKevin100 Рік тому +11

      @@Dude29 Don't truck from (e.g.) your smelter to your factory. Instead, truck from your smelter to a depot and then from the depot to your factory. Then you can just truck fuel to the depot and refuel all vehicles there. This is desirable anyway, because you might have (say) three iron smelters and four factories that need iron ingots. If you ran trucks from all smelters to all factories, you would need 21 vehicles, but if you have a depot, you only need seven.

    Just a small note here:
    There's no need to use a smart splitter for the 2nd train cargo station. A normal splitter will do as well and has the advantage of being cheap to extend to a 3rd station if train cycle time should be too long for two wagons.

    A fun thing to consider about vehicle transportation is that the factory cart does not require fuel to run but it still does have one inventory slot. Clearly, the chad resource transportation method is a fleet of factory carts on autopilot slipping and sliding around your world

    the biggest downside of trucks for me personally are trafficjams.
    if you produce less or equal to what your truck transports you're good.
    but if you produce so much that you would need multiple trucks you also need to put a bit of thought into how your "loading bays" and streets are deisgned so that the trucks don't end up blocking each other in an eternal fight of who goes first.

    • @Predated2
      @Predated2 Рік тому +2

      You could mitigate that quite a bit by having a central storage per biome and have that storage linked to a loading bay. There isnt really a thing as producing too much in Satisfactory as most overflow is managable by the productionline itself. The only worry around overflow is that if there suddenly is none, you might get a power outage. If you designed a seperate powergrid to power factories in that area, then there is no real worry other than perhaps speed.
      But there are so many ways of getting resources locally that its often not worth sending 1 truck all the way to the other side of the map. You often should use trucks between 2 local spots because they the cheapest option. Since you'd place 2 trucks, add a depot in the middle for fuel and you wouldnt have to worry about traffic jams.
      Trying to use trucks for the same purpose of a train, and you start getting issues.

    Here’s a tip I’d like to share on signaling: Always make blocks that are as long as your largest train. And if you make trains with more than four train cars like I do, then divide any of your large signal blocks into two to increase efficiency. For example, I build trains with six freights cars attached that are exactly 14 foundations long, so I make signal blocks that are 7 foundations long to increase train throughput.

    • @ledoynier3694
      @ledoynier3694 2 роки тому +8

      on long runs, cut by path signals, it's good to put your last block signal farther from the path signal. Otherwise, the train will slow don a lot everytime it approaches that crossing.
      Unless your railway is super busy, there's usually no need to have short segments. It accentuates the possibility to start an accordion effect between trains following each other, slowing them down.
      I had that problem early on, and ended up only paking the longest rails possible. One block signal at each segment on busy sections, one block signal every 2 segments in the countryside with fewer, fast trains.
      Still the best tip is not to read tips, and experiment! that's half the fun

    Conveyor belt highway is the superior method by far. A continuous supply of whatever you're transporting with no bottlenecks, no fancy parts needed to build them, you don't have 50 trucks cluttering up your map/compass and produce much less lag in game than vehicles. Not to mention the eye candy from a well designed system of belts.

    • @ThatCubicGuy

      "no bottlenecks" not quite. highly saturated endgame belts aren't 100% consistent. every transition from one segment of the belt to another can make items get stuck for a moment, thus ever so slightly reducing the final throughput. this is why i don't recommend conveyor belts over very long distances, or at least only use them for lower quantity items.

    One interesting and painless note about drones -- they're great for shipping ... wait for it ... batteries!
    Since you'll almost certainly have a battery line near a drone port for fuel -- just build up that factory and transport any excess you have to your super-state computer factory and/or magnetic field generator factory. You can build a A1->B and A2->C way to feed both factories if you have high battery production or A->B, B->C (chain) if you have lower demand or low production. Just make sure the output line has a smart splitter that splits to the battery-fuel port.

    Vehicles are great for exploration and constructing factories far away from where you produce the parts needed for them, but automated vehicles have the annoying tendency to fake-teleport to 0,0,0 if they have a pauze node that is anywhere near any kind of slope or inclination. Also managing pathing is a pain.. while you can reuse existing pathing if you want multiple trucks at fixed time intervals, making any kind of modification (other then changing wait times or deleting nodes) requires redoing the entire route.

    Their throughput is more consistent than trains due to inputs not stopping during loading.
    They can run on excess fuel if any kind.
    If you're making any amount of extra fuel, or coal you can collect it and use it in the stops.
    You can also, in theory. Make truck stop manifolds.

    Trucks are currently so infuriating to use because of their lack of functionality. It frustrates me that you can't force a truck to grab/deposit only a select item, or tell what items to come out of what conveyor output in the Stations. Couple this with no easy road creation feature and trucks loving to overcomplicate simple paths and you've got an extremely underwhelming, limited, and frustrating mode of transportation. I HATE building 4 truck stations just so that items can come into a factory reliably. They are ONLY good for transporting one item, and trying to do anything more than that will result in weird compromises and unnecessarily giant factories and jank. Rant over.

      I like the idea of having a whole fleet of trucks hauling loads of resources from distant corners of the game world over rugged terrain and through multiple biomes. The game even tries to encourage this by providing natural roads and even convenient tunnels threading across the whole map, giving nice ready-made routes for your trucks to use.
      But in practice things have never worked out this way for me. Tractors are convenient for early game coal, but they are somewhat slow and have trouble when you try to set up multiple of them close to each other, as if their routes cross they can collide and get stuck in a deadlock. And they require fuel, which can be inconvenient if your source and destinations don't have surplus coal production or supply that can be diverted into the fueling input of the stations. But then that of course takes away coal that you need for power or steel at that point.
      Trucks have more capacity and also range I think, and they look cool, but along with the previous problems they are huge, making it harder to take them through narrow passages or cliff routes, and they unlock really late, by which point you are probably already working with trains. So by that point I just don't bother except maybe for a personal truck for long-range building missions. Which is a shame, since it seems like it would look cool, but it just hasn't felt worth the investment.
      But I think 1.0 is supposed to rebalanced things in such a way that earlier use of trucks may be more feasible. And perhaps I'll use what I've learned in my games so far to make better use of them next time.

      @@Redstoneman1997 you can put your other locomotives at the back of the train and not stack them at the front. that way it doesn't change your stations design at all. Just make some space at the station entrance so that the overhanging locomotives don't block traffic.

      they are very easy, as long as you don't run single rails for trains to move both ways. Always make two parallel rails, then have a go at making T junctions. Add block signals every few rail segments and you're done. Watching tutorials only gives you the basics, the goal is for you to play with them and find what works best for you. Some only use block signals, some use paths on crossings etc...

    No1 seems to address my biggest issue with trucks - how to split the items at the other end (drop off hub).
    If they can only do one per stop thats rubbish Vs belts as:
    A) they use loads of power
    B) +need fuel (so +even more power and space)
    C) LOADS of time to manage routes, build the stations, roads and the extra power needed etc etc.
    Ive got 4 diff items (plas,rubb,fuel,poly) coming from oil plant to main base.
    I have no idea how people say use smart splitters at all, as mine ALWAYS eventually spit one wrong item out and jam the whole production line.

    • @TotalXclipse
      @TotalXclipse  Рік тому +2

      The solution is smart splitters but im not sure how you're having issues with them. The solution would be to have one smart splitter at the trunk stop and a back up at the factory line as a failsafe (see my failsafes video) but as you mention all the issues, it's generally why I go down the route of using trains

    • @bethus2391
      @bethus2391 9 місяців тому +1

      You have plas,rubb,fuel,poly.
      1 Smart splitter: Left - plastic, Center - Any Undefined, Right - rubber
      2 Smart splitter (right after the first one): Left - fuel, Center - Any Undefined, Right - poly.
      That's all. And you can put a storage container or sink at center output of 2nd smart splitter and it will collect everything that's don't match filter as your safety measure.
      But you also need to make sure that any of the sorted outputs (plasitc, rubber, etc) don't overflow or the whole conveyor will stop

    Honestly I keep contemplating how to build my factory I never get anything done effectively or efficiently eg coal power plant no matter how I design it with say 2 water pumps and 8 CP plants somewhere along the pipe they don’t receive enough water

    • @Arch_Mii
      @Arch_Mii 2 роки тому

      There is a video on that also made by total.
      You have to over clock the waterextractors to 150% or use 3 waterextractors and connect 1 between number 2&3, 1 between 4 & 5 and 1 between 7 & 8. (Coal generators) then you should have a perfect qork powerplant with 8 coal generators!

    • @magepunk7711
      @magepunk7711 2 роки тому

      You will need 3 water turbines for 360 water per minute for 8 generators. Each coal factory uses 45 water p/m.
      8 coal factories * 45 = 360.
      Also divide your water accordingly. A pipe can only take 300 water p/m. So you will have to connect 2 pumps to the first 4 and another to the second 4.
      Also make a water tower with a fluid buffer and pump water up in case you are having head lift problems.
      Or what I do, I connect one pipe to all 3 turbines, run one side of the pipes through the water tower and back to connect to another pipe leading into all 8 coal generators. The other end of the pipes, the ones connected to the wind turbines, are connected to the other end of the pipes leading to the coal generators. Lastly, if you are still having issues - probably with head lift - connect the pipe leading out from the water tower to the last pipe that leads into the coal generator.
      I know it's difficult to follow along. But it's possible to get 16 coal generator plants working at 100% with 2 pumps and 6 turbines. I did a 32 setup with 3 pumps.
