Lutron’s biggest draw for me is just how solid and stable it has been. In the years I’ve had it installed, there has not been a single moment that it went offline. I’m sure Eve’s offering is great, but the stability is where it really matters for me where these very basic functionality is concerned - does this knock Lutron off that throne? Maybe, but I’ll pay the premium to never have to find out that that might not be the case. 😊
“This is where Eve Switch is better than Lutron” isn’t in my view saying Lutron has been dethroned. But there are things about this switch I like better than Lutron switches like the touch pad design. I still love my Lutron switches and more often than not I recommend their switches.
Agree 100%. Love my Lutron and Philips Hue for the same reason. While they might not do magic tricks, they work. Kudos to Eve, though. I’ll pass for now.
Regarding how big the switch is: I would like to see the manufacturers go to screw terminals rather than the extra wires sticking out and taking up space in the box. By the time you stick three wire nuts in there or four wire nuts things get tight. I use wagos but they still take up space.
wonder how well this fits in a 3 or 4 gang switch plate, especially the connectivity if they're all Eve smart switches all butted right up to each other like that
I’ve had this for over a year. It works great. It’s the only one that handles 15 amps for my bathroom heater. The only problem is it doesn’t have a pico remote which is disappointing. Over all it works fine without any problems with it ever.
The logo on the front would be a deal breaker for me. Also, Lutrons never ever fail -- not once. It's rare to find something so reliable so I won't be "switching". :)
I prefer the Jasco/GE Enbrighten smart switches as they're not as deep and you can swap the load and line connections (like a regular mechanical switch) and the switch will still operate correctly. Of course, the Enbrighten are not matter/thread yet. They are z-wave or Zigbee - which is fine for me since I connect them to a Hubitat hub and do my automations there with connections to HomeKit and Alexa for manual and voice command control. I want to be able to maintain control of devices through both Alexa and Apple Home, while handling automations through a hub so the automations will continue to work when there is an Internet failure.
Zigbee-A is great. It would be nice if we didnt have to replace all the Zigbee stuff we have now to make the "thread" network stable. :-) Can't wait for Eve to migrate these to MATTER. Smart switch size has been an issue for 50 years.
Not sure I would ever want a switch that only turns lights on and off. I want the ability to dim any light in my house. I currently use Insteon light switches and lamp modules with the indigo app and a plugin to allow my Insteon eco system to integrate with Apple HomeKit. Would rather have a native Apple HomeKit system but I started doing this with Insteon 20 years ago. When I move from this house I am considering Lutron Caseta.
Question? The Eve Energy has issue not remembering it's internal schedule when power is lost. Can you test this Eve switch for this issue? Schedule is pretty useless if any loss of power wipes it Thanks.
I think that the selling point here was direct integration with Homekit, but I use z-wave switches and a Hubitat hub to get Homekit and Alexa integration.
@@tomm3218non-dimmer options from Lutron also require a neutral, only difference here is that Eve doesn’t make a dimmer for a non-neutral version to exist
I love this switch is nearly perfect, I have 7 already installed in my hose as long with some Eve sensor…. Y replace all switches around my house with 7 Eve switch, some ORVIVO switches ( those are amazing) but unfortunately don’t support apple HomeKit, some LIVOLO touch switch ( I love those too ) but they aren’t smart, I like it because they are touch too,
I have the Phillips hue light bulbs, the only problem is that when you turn the light on manually there is a minimum delay ( a little annoying) but it works perfect with the app or voice no delay….
Hi Eric, does any company that you know of, make a motion detection capable switch or sensor that works with HomeKit and can be used to activate a bathroom exhaust fan? Right now I use a Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Light Switch (KS2000MP2) that does NOT work with HomeKit. It is not very user friendly but I was able to set a timer that works with the motion activation. Thank you in advance for any information/suggestions you might have.
There are motion sensors like the Eve Motion Sensor that integrate directly with Homekit. It is $50 with Thread and Matter support. If you don't need automation, you could use a regular motion sensing switch from a hardware store that goes in place of a traditional switch. I use these in my pantry and walk-in closets as I always want the lights to go on (they can easily work a fan instead as they are relay-output switches) and putting in a smart switch, motion sensor, and then programming an automation between them is more costly and is just overkill. These basic motion sensing switches only cost around $15 - $20.
I don’t think so. I’ve started playing with Hubitat myself recently. My point in this video was not to say that Eve switches are categorically better than Lutron, but they have some unique features that are ahead of Lutron in certain areas. It sounds like for a setup like yours I would stick with Lutron for the consistency and integrations.
Wait, there’s no dimming ability. That’s a huge flaw it makes me wanting to get this light switch a hard no. I think you should’ve made that more of a point in your review people might’ve missed that you said it was like an apple trackpad. You would think it would just have a dimmer where you could slide your finger down it.
I do think this is a better option than Lutron’s non-dimmable Claro switch especially when you consider cost and thread capabilities (I also love how Lutron still can’t include any of their expensive wall plates with their expensive light switches) but the moment you need a dimmer switch that works with HomeKit you’re toast
Those are good points Daniel! Yeah I think part of it is that dimmers are harder to make…especially ones that work well with lots of lightbulbs and are smart. I hope Eve can make one with time but Lutron has been making dimmers since before most of us were born.
Gee, I must have missed it in the title... Where it said this video would be all about how much better this switch was over Lutron... for Homekit users.
I don't get the rave around the pricey Lutron - I bought it back in 2010 but quickly returned it when I didn't see any justifiable benefit for the price. I have used WiFi switches from treat life and Kasa for years with zero issues and they even look like regular switches so you won't even know it is a smart switch. I'd be curious to try out the Eve Switches
Sorry, my friend. I missed the part where it was better than Lutron...price? :D Thread isn't really a Pro just yet. A better comparison is with Kasa, but Kasa is way cheaper. It's not really in Lutron's league.
That is exactly where the Eve light switch wins out, price, and if you are all in on thread/matter and enjoy open ecosystems (i.e. anything outside of Lutron’s proprietary hub) that is another big plus

We are all waiting for the dimmer switch and curtain rod thingy from Eve.
It is already being sold
Wait. It’s not dimmable? You should have emphasized that point. Or is there a way to dim the light thru the app?
Sorry I could have been more clear. In my view switch always means not dimmable. There’s no way to dim it.
No dimming ability makes it totally useless for me 🤷♂️

I'd recommend hooking up that ground.
When are you going to check out the new Insteon dimmer switch?
One of these days…I got a long backlog of products to review right now given everything coming out recently. It’s a good problem to have to be sure!
Looks great! Samsung Smartthings support?
Oh wait no dimmer.. I need that
The logo on the front would be a deal breaker for me. Also, Lutrons never ever fail -- not once. It's rare to find something so reliable so I won't be "switching". :)
The logo is only on the switch plate so you could just not use the included one and use your own which are like $1
Would it be possible for dimming to be added later thru a software upgrade or will buying a different switch be necessary?

All my zwave items create a log and I can do the same with led. Other than thread and matter along with flat front vs paddle the features are the same
Hi @Eric: Quick question. Would this work - WITHOUT a neutral wire?
You should do a video on the Level Lock plus-- the one with Apple HomeKey support
I get one few days ago but I notice on switch 120 v....here in Saudi Arabia we had 220v is it a problem to installation???
I’m surprised they didn’t add a power consumption tracking feature to the switch.
Like their Eve Energy can.

This seems like the features of basically any standard Zwave switch. I have Zooz Switches all over my house and have never looked back.
I think that the selling point here was direct integration with Homekit, but I use z-wave switches and a Hubitat hub to get Homekit and Alexa integration.
It’s a nonstarter for me without dimming capability.
