'Sheep' Pink Floyd Demo's 1976 Alternative version Rare

- Pink Floyd hoarders finally released this for profit on vinyl
From Yeeshhkul, these would be from a cassette from summer 1976 which contain earlier studio recordings for the Animals album. Sheep has the old Raving And Drooling lyrics, Dogs has Waters and Gilmour singing each others lead vocal parts and completely different guitar solos from the finished work. Pigs doesn't have all the final overdubs but is quite similar to the album version.
Awesome, greatest band in the world.
couldn't agree more

Any musician who puts this on can't help but think "dammit, I really wish I wrote this."
I don't think so. Not so many people like Floyd, but those who do, man, we love it.
Syfoll not many people? They’re one of the most successful bands of all time. Lmao it’s ridiculous how many people I know alone that love the band.
@@MajesticWaffle Wish You we're here... My city sucks in terms of Floyd lovers.
@@baitman2368 same
@@baitman2368 shame. Every year when Pink Floyd’s endorsed tribute band comes to town it’s always packed with tons of old and young people alike
The ending to this masterpiece sends shivers up my spine!
3:58 sheep becomes money for a second.
Omg, I love this version of Sheep!! Roger Waters voice is fucking brilliant!
Probably the best rock band ever !
not probably
Best band ever. Best album ever.
So many great Floyd tunes but this one really stands out for me!
Raving and Drooling (Sheep) and You Gotta Be Crazy (Dogs) songs written in 74-75 and brought to the studio during the recording of Wish You Were Here, but not used for the album, The songs were played on their 75 "Wish You Were Here" tour
Everything they did was awesome!!
+Cymbaline wake me Absolutely ! (except breaking the band in late 80' & Roger Water spitting on a fan during live show^^)
+Tarak Hentati I agree....but I love Waters anyway.... ☺
+Cymbaline wake me We all do ;-)
+Tarak Hentati ☺❤
but the spitting incident brought us The Wall...
A solid wall of talent and awesome, the Pink Floyd were!
this is a pure treasure!!
seriously, i could listen to this and nothing else. yeahh!! right, there's a lot of great stuff out there but know what? floyd is floyd.
animals is the album if prefer and there are a bunch of others which are really cool but animals has something special to me, more than the others. the difference can't be big cause floyd is floyd. i love the photograph.
thank you for this. this has no price!
I Laravel Had it on 8 track and did just that, until it broke
Interesting. Very good they didn't release this on Animals which is a 97/100 for me, it jumps from mid eighties to a 97 just from the outro riff that closes the album. Amazing work.
So ironic that the sheep fear dogs only to be eaten by the shepherd
2024 yall livin the dream
Nick Mason was on fire the second half of the song. Roger and David should have kept the drum track for the original.
Many thanks to you uploader, this really has me now in my 4th decade of listening to this...brilliant
Sheep melody.... Raving and Drooling lyrics....
Big thanks, nice version, has Rick's (RIP) weird keyboard he used to play on the live versions but was barely used on the original album. This is fantastic stuff.
Doum Tekka arp solina is the keyboard
@@Syfoll dang really I thought it was a moog synth
@@joshuavargas9668 He also used a minimoog. Rick's core rig on WYWH and Animals is the same: Hammond organ, piano, Wurlitzer piano, Minimoog and ARP Solina (he used the EMS VCS 3 on Shine On and Sheep and a Rhodes piano on Sheep). The Solina was used for string sounds, not a single time for lead sounds. The Minimoog was the one he used for lead sounds, all his solos from Shine On, Welcome to the Machine and Dogs are with the Minimoog.
@@Syfoll oh I see but one thing I can say is whoever came up with the decision to have the Rhodes piano solo in the beginning, that was a good decision
So much Animals material pops up somehow more and more each year....so many good live recordings out there and so enormous unbelievable bad that the band didnt filmed their shows back then (73-77...altho not so long ago some short pro-shot vid of 1973 and 1975 surfaced online) ....and might be my all time most favorite record from the band....WHERE IS THAT F**(&^&^NG immersion set for this one
the demo version of sheep here was originaly titled raving and drooling and these are also the original lyrics before the final version of sheep was formed and finished sorry cant help the floydaholic in me
Uno de los mejores temas de esta gran banda.Unicos en el universo.
Did you hear him almost jump into the Money bassline at 3:58 ? Start just before 3:58 and you'll hear it . It's one quick note
+8trackrecorder -- I hear it, thanks! The "swing" note, on the fifth of the chord.
IMO, he should have felt free to do it as often as he wanted. There are some recurring characteristics of Roger's bass playing. Between _Piper,_ "Atom Heart Mother Suite" and "Breathe", you've already got an encyclopedia of Roger Waters bass tricks.
agreed. this is a standard bass playing effect of using the octave. the money riff is based around this. although, something to note is that on many of the album recordings the bass was played by gilmour. Hey You being a perfect example. Honestly dont know if this was RW or DG.
8trackrecorder Great catch
Sure did!
It's a simple arpeggio like the one that begins the Money bass line, but this one is in a different key.
UNFUCKENBELIEVABLE! This rocks, my new all time favorite song
I hope one day they will come together and release an Animals immersion box set while I still can enjoy it🐷
Mee Too!
the lyrics are also stunning ,and I like how they were clearly in the developmental stage.ex:Plibbity ploppitty bippity boppity later revised to the menacing
"Follow the leader ,down well-trodden corridors ,into the bloody old steel."
this became my all time favorite record .Got to see the show !
Into the valley of steel
Awesome.
oltre il MITO!
Screeeeeeammmm Yeah Wooh!
Despite the early lyrics, this isn't exactly "Raving and Drooling". That version started in the key of F# before the singing began in E minor. This version is starting in D minor like the final version, and following the pattern to A minor, B minor, A minor again, to E minor. This is sort of a transitory version. It does have most of the flaws of "Raving and Drooling". I'm SO glad they didn't release this and "You've Got to Be Crazy" on _Wish You Were Here_ like David Gilmour wanted to. (He wanted to do "Shine On" on one side, and the two _Animals_ precursors on the other side -- no "Welcome to the Machine", no "Have a Cigar", and no "Wish You Were Here". That would have been a _terrible_ album!) That's one argument with Roger Waters that David Gilmour's glad he lost.
I agree and I think Waters should have steered the boat the whole time.
Lee Fuller While I would like to agree, I must point out they would never have gotten big in the 60's without Syd and that Gilmour's time as lead writer for the rest of the 60's. Roger had ideas, but needed the time to learn how to voice them. He may never have tried a concept album if he was the creative mind during their commercially dead timeline.
You may be right. I'd be curious though to see how things would have played out if Waters were at the reins.
Dreamr OKelly Floyd didn't 'boot' Waters, he left, he quit. In fact he gave them a letter saying he quit, which was probably the single most significant mistake Waters made during his departure. He basically said 'you guys go on as Pink Floyd, without me' and they did.
+foxtrot789 When a guy's had enough of something - he's had enough. What's the problem? You gonna work at the same desk all your puff yourself? I doubt it & neither could I.
This is fucking AWESOME!!!!
Pink Floyd started to perform live "Raving and Drooling" since 1974
AWESOME DEMO!!!!!!
Badass! Awesome, thanks for posting.
Over 100k views; should be over 100k likes for this brilliant song.
Very good
Fantastic!
Great Pick!
I've posted this Song (3) times since 2021 Started!
🤘😎
Still waiting for the mandatory- Rick Wright underrated comment.
Sooooo earthy!
Jeez Louise and oh my Rod ( as in Stewart) This is totally funkin amazing. Rog is ripping his serrated vocal embolism schism thingy beyond my ability to Knees up mother brown. Ripped it to audio brothers and rare sisters. Jim Bean, sounds like a mean mother machine, you know what I mean? I know you do.
I see...
DANG AWESOME VERSION!!! :)
Rick's solo...
heavy!
Wonder if the demos will ever get an official release through an Animals Immersion Edition.
Fuck I love this version, it's my favorite one
really awesome
❤❤❤
foda caraaa , simplesmente foda!
Roger fucking yeller!! ^^
Here's my question to all, where is all the concert footage of all these magic songs, you know they are out there, I'm guessing its all about $$$
?????
1975 and 1977 weren't professionally shot by the band at all. They didn't film jack shit.
Gilmour on bass 👍🏻
And Roger on the electric guitar
Muito bom!!!
sinister
pretty sure gilmour plays the underlying bass riff
Muito top.
Waters
The incomplete bridge, the noodling and note-hunting make me appreciate the final version all the more. Good effort though, about 75% there at this capture
MADRES !!!
I eat sheep
the photo at 4:40 damn rick was pretty
the base riff sounds just like dr who's opening theme
Fuck, amazing!!
Father sheep before the son
Does anyone have the lyrics for this original version?
As with many other earlier raw versions, this version is so much better.
It is much more powerful, emotional. The final version had been too much groomed for nice sound.
Andy Mabbet: "Roger Waters play the guitar".
These aren't demos but rather early studio versions. If there were original demos they would be from 1974 (with the exception of Pigs (3DO). These were recorded in 1976 at Brittania Row.
+apollomemories73
No they are NOT demos. The band started from demos and these tracks are well into the production process so your labeling of these is incorrect.
+apollomemories73 The band didnt designate Embryo as a demo. Harvest included it on their sampler w/o the knowledge of the band who were unhappy about it.
Ron F I suggest you read up on Roger Waters' publicly printed in the press comments about that before you say anymore....
+apollomemories73 The inclusion of Embryo, without the approval of Pink Floyd, and which the band considered unfinished, resulted in the album's prompt withdrawal.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picnic_%E2%80%93_A_Breath_of_Fresh_Air
Ron F What prompt withdrawal? It was a limited run sampler! I bought it when it came out and the other one, Harvest Bag. Where do you get this crumby info from. Fuck, I've only just realised that you're a newbie to the whole deal, otherwise you wouldn't be sending me this crumby link that has absolutely no connection to Pink Floyd whatsoever. It's a website for people without a clue that need such a website because they haven't got a clue.
Seriously, man, you're dealing with a hard core Brit fanatic, whom lives and breathes a lot of the artists on the Harvest label and must have at least 90 first UK pressings from the label.
Take it from one who knows. That's why we comment, to set the record straight.
Is the title not "bleeting and babbling ......." In the end?????????Mr.W. P?
musically awesome, but glad as FUCK they worked the lyrics out before the album release. these lyrics don't go in the right order. album version lyrics guides one along a process of awakening from a stuper, and exposes an entity "state" that has no right to exist. "i have looked over jordan and i have seen...things are not what they seem.
Umm...this isn't even Sheep. At the time of this recording it was called Raving and Drooling. Completely different song, not out of place lyrics.
Roger Waters play the guitar to 8:33?
Asztalos Tomi Yeah he played that last part. A lot of people don't know that but Roger did.
On the studio version too? I always thought it was a Gilmour energy... Interesting.
If you state that's Waters on that ending guitar, I'll state thats Jim Morrison on drums on the whole song, maaaan!!!
"Roger Waters play the guitar to 8:33?" If you mean the main riff that Dave wrote, that's Dave playing it.
Andy Mabbet: "Roger Waters play the guitar".
*porcodio*
approvo
Roger's Waters voice is so fucking amazing
