- Pink Floyd hoarders finally released this for profit on vinyl
From Yeeshhkul, these would be from a cassette from summer 1976 which contain earlier studio recordings for the Animals album. Sheep has the old Raving And Drooling lyrics, Dogs has Waters and Gilmour singing each others lead vocal parts and completely different guitar solos from the finished work. Pigs doesn't have all the final overdubs but is quite similar to the album version.
I could listen to Gilmour playing that intro for hours. He's like a human metronome
For Days
We can never figure out who suggested or composed that part.
Roger or david !!!!?
@@KIAvASH_K David.
@@KIAvASH_K as it is in a different tuning from standard and aren’t traditional chords, it’s definitely not Roger
@@KIAvASH_K david has gone on record saying hes particularly proud of the chord progression in dogs, he definitely wrote it.
That third electric guitar layer, on the solo's, is awesome. It sounds so dirty & raw. I almost wish they included it in the official studio release. What am I saying? Dogs is a perfect song. Floyd's best ever, in my opinion...
alb639 For the Animals tour they had Snowy White on guitar to help out Gilmour and it was great. They played every song on the album. My favorite concert ever
They had similar overdubs for the last two tracks of dsotm (or maybe just brain damage i dont recall) but they removed them because they thought it was too busy
hard to disagree on the song rating. I like parts of there 3rd guitar but not most. There are places where it fits in nicely (imo)
There are many incredible live versions of Dogs... Yes, it's one of their finest...
Mine either!
You can tell Roger is singing it as guide for David (It's not Roger's normal tone). The pacing is exactly how David sang it.
thats what I thought, but couldnt think it was true
Right on, I didn't realize it until I read your comment.
Yeah, agree. Basically RW had all these albums figured out in his head, to very last bloody inch. Masterful craftsmanship; a fantastic producer. To have someone like him beside you is a guarantee of albums (and millions). Lucky Nick and Rick. Cheers
@@octopus672003 The demos for "The Wall" beg to differ. Pink Floyd at their best was very much a collaborative effort, and Roger's raw demos were rather abrasive and unlistenable (or at least unmarketable). That being said, they were very much still gems, albeit in need of refinement and polish from Dave and even Rick.
Roger made up the singing melody and phrasing, but it davids voice sounds cooler doing it. Roger is a genius a vocal phrasing, he didn't make it for david, he just made it and handed it off to him, because this one sounds better with David. Rogers vocal phrasing talent is among the very best in rock history. This is not an easy to song to come up with a singing melody over. And Rogers vocal melody phrazing over Dogs is about the best i've ever heard. Although i do wonder about the middle seection "have a good drown as you go down" I wonder if Roger came up with that singing melody or David. It was prob Roger..... But i've never heard him sing it. Its really cool, I often wonder how did such cool phrazing come out of Roget...... He had a channel to real inspiration back then, like no one else...
I'm glad that they ended up having Gilmour sing first.
Me too
This song has gone through many iterations in terms of who sings which verse.
1974 Gilmour Waters Gilmour Waters
1976 Waters Gilmour Waters Waters
1977 Gilmour Gilmour Waters Waters
1977 live Gilmour Gilmour Gilmour Waters
Currently when Waters preforms this song he has someone else sing the first verse but he sings the last 3 verses including the last 2 by himself
You're mouth is as big as waters gob!
is not gilmour is waters
in the spirit of 'Hey You', I agree.
the last part (after 12:01) is most beautiful than the album version! Congrats to Rick Wright and his moog... I could listen to this part forever! Even the guitar texture are nicer for me! I really love demos! Maybe it's about the thing they are quite raw and real... less overdubs: a real live band in a room!
When I listen That part that you 'described, the photo looks too beauty for me, and members are more special than it already . great music experience and you make That this experience grows.
I like the final version of this part much better. Makes more of a statement
The moog thing is actually in there after he says “ground down in the end” it was just covered up in the mix. You have to listen very carefully to hear it.
I am so glad that David Gilmour ended up singing the lead vocals on Dogs. Roger Waters is great on Pigs and Sheep.
in 1977
iam so glad roger write this song
David sang the first part before Roger came in after the long middle section of the song. But I do agree I am also glad that he sang the first part of the song.
I wish I lived in the 70's....
Everyday stellar albums raining down ....
Waters singing the intro makes it somewhat terrifying
Especially when he says “put the knife in”
That last section sounds as devastating as ever. even more so with Rick's part such a shame it was practically eradicated
Most of this version actually made it into the final mix.
yes, the first solo is exactly the same
What a wonderful band who worked so hard to present us with music of ABSOLUTE BEAUTY.
So much talent. Nobody writes like this anymore
The surround remix release on my blu ray is so godlike. put yourself in the middle of Rick Wright's sonic electronic swirly synths that will never sound dated on account of these guys were so far ahead of their time that their music sounds timeless.
great version
in my opinion it demonstrates nicely that rogers voice has no vocal ability yet has major character and daves fabulous voice has all the warmth but at times you need rogers sarcastic bite
David could not not have don't vocals on sheep. Roger is perfect for that song. Same on Pigs. I love Rogers crazy voice.
Robert Wells Roger sings the second half of Dogs on the album and it sounds great. He also sings the rest of the album. I get annoyed when people say Gilmour is "the" lead vocalist when Waters sang more than Gilmour or anyone else in the band.
but in the dark side of the moon and wish tou were here, David Gilmour sings the major of songs...... in my opinion the songs that are more melodic were sung by gilmour because dave voice is more perfect and woderful.(welcome to the machine)......although the Roger voice can express anger and sadness (Hey you)............
Well David´s voice is certainly easier to listen to and likeable, but Rogers pained out breaks often fit the intention of the piece better, PF used the contrast artfully,
"rogers voice has no vocal ability" He sounds great some of the time. The Wall all sung by Dave and Rick would be interesting, wouldn't it. And worse.
Fucking A!
This has completely utterly blown my mind. Can't stop listening to it, to the FUCKING GROOVY guitar solo... I'm speechless.
Isn't that 3rd guitar layer fucking incredible? Gilmour is such a stud. I hope his new album is better than On An Island. I miss his raw, gritty guitar sound.
alb639 I agree right, I thought I didn't appreciate it but really it wasn't that good.
I believe it was originally entitled "You've Got To Be Crazy". Remember reading that somewhere.
Travis Azzopardi dogs still is best name after near 40yrs man
+Travis Azzopardi no it was "Raving and Drooling"
+milan alexich no raving and drooling became sheep Travis is right this was originally you gotta be crazy , the first line gives it away :)
I stand corrected
You've got to be crazy, you've got to be mean! You've got to keep your shoes and your car clean!
3:08 synth solo is awesome
Great to hear this. "Nothing really exists for an Animals Box Set my arse!"
Interesting to hear Waters make a (ahem) dogs dinner of the vocal; Gilmour was the wiser choice to sing this.
Looks like they recorded all the instruments and before adding the vocals Roger took it home and reworked not only lyrics but the vocal melody, which was very different before the album was released. For reference you should listen to Dogs early version "You've gotta be crazy"... again Mr. Roger, you're a genius!
Gilmore made you enjoy the music + waters made you think, equals classics long live ROCK ✌👍
It is interesting to hear Roger sing David's vocal parts
True, but it is Roger's lyrics. :)
Yes youre right lol
But David sings better ;)
Santii Herre
yes but the original 2de verse sing by roger is also cool, the lyrics changes the point of view, so it's interesting to change the vocal :)
Alex Selman You are just totally wrong, Dave wrote a lot of lyrics for his songs in pre-Dark Side era, i.e. Fat old sun
Nice alternate version, but demo quality for sure. One of their best tunes ever.
I think this is an early mix / arrangement rather than demo. A number of the instrumental performances are exactly the same as on the final release, even the effects when Nick comes in. That being said, it's cool to hear the "place holder" stuff in there as well.
I'm glad they changed up vocal duties though... Roger's voice has an amazing impact on the song in the final cut. It isn't the same here.
Oh, this is beyond awesome. Soundscape birthed from ballroom music? Thank God for Pink Floyd. There will never be a similar chemistry that will break all bounds of the conception of true music. Actually, I hear old Pink Floyd in some Tool songs, but there will never be another Pink Floyd. With Waters. It is not Pink Floyd without Waters, even as I do appreciate the music made by the latest incarnations.
Which songs?
Merci beaucoup pour ce trésor et cette magnifique photo.
That chord progression though......
I hate to not know this terms...
@@baitman2368 A chord progression is just a sequence of chords.
Waters singing first.
OMG.
+jorkanmx yeah it sounds pretty terrible :b ! Only certain passages of certain songs are meant for Waters to sing on, obviously this were Gilmours type of song to sing :) !
And these guys realized that, and switched back and forth between Waters and Gilmour perfectly!
go-Ta
exactly what i've been trying to explain to all the Waters haters for years.. There are songs that fits him, that wouldn't fit Gilmour!
Roger's vocal sounds like a guide vocal, btw as it was an ongoing studio recording, both Waters and Gilmour vocals sound like just guide vocals .. but you can hear many instrumental parts that have been kept till the final version. The first guitar solo is the one that appears on the album. unless David was able to meticulously replicate his own solos to such perfection..
nice to hear this w.i.p. recording. thanks for posting!
@@vgfxworks I wouldn't be surprised if he can replicate them identically.
Was a great live show-almost 100k saw the Cleveland, Ohio show. GOOD TIMES
David singing on the released version is much better, but Roger makes for a great listen.
i guess its technically an early cut as opposed to a demo, many of the parts are the same as in the official studio version. i love hearing these and seeing how they mixed the song and how it evolved
I think EMI called them "reference mixes" -- early mixes you listen to to decide what you want to change or add. Not a demo.
8:07 struggled to hit that one lol
3:02 as well. He didn't even try to hold out "Night."
according to David, this was probably the hardest song to sing the band has ever written. He didn't like singing it. So much that he has never bothered playing it in his post Floyd career. He preferred playing songs from the Wall (an Album he absolutely hated) over this song. Which is a shame, kinda wanted to see a Wright - Gilmour version of Dogs.
XD
roger sounds like he's in pain sos
Great sound for The Wall, .
@@kevanbodsworth9868 You're right!
Maybe he was completely pissed.
I bought new a double album record several years ago. Guy swimming in the sand on the front cover. "Demos" on the back. Amazing stuff from the 70s, audiophile, purple vinyl. It got pulled from the market, even discogs blocks it. Wish I new how to upload vinyl on YT. Examples: Wish you were here with a violin solo; Us and them, grand piano only and no vocals.
Wow! This is amazing! I love the entire Animal album but this is definitely my favorite song! Perfection! Thanks for posting!
+Maggie Anaya Maggie. Animals is my favorite Pink Floyd album. I prefer David singing the first part and Roger can sing the second part. But it is the "dragged down by the stone" on the released version that always gives me goosebumps! "Stone, stone, stone on tape delay works!
Yes, shivers up my spine every time!
And the Vocoded dog barks.
And the master out, whistling for their Dog. Under the forest of steam and pollution pumped out of Battersea Station, back in the day.
I cant believe i havent heard this before !
I am still mad that there wasn't an Animals box set released back in 2011 when they released the Darkside, WYWH & The Wall Sets. They totally skipped Animals. Maybe one day?? lol
I believe it's because animals is so underrated
I feel you. This would've been the only box I'd be willing to spend 100€ on. To me it's their best stuff and the most interesting stage of the band aswell. Just the right mixture of waters/gilmour imo. Gilmours musicianship can get boring quite soon. Waters is the epic songwriter and gilmour the melody maker - together with wright of course - I would have also loved more information about the recording, how the ideas evolved, what wright and mason felt like during these days, and of course i want that 77' Boston Bootleg as an official Live release. I would take any Live Concert of that time as an official release. How come Pink Floyd just has Delicate Sound of Thunder and Pulse as official Live recordings? Isn't that a shame?
Thanks a bunch for this! Really interesting to hear
In ogni versione là si ascolti, rimane la più bella canzone, la vetta più alta della musica rock.
Pink Floyd ….. IMMENSI
Roger just provided the guide voice. As you can notice, most of his phrasing here remains intact in the official version. I don't think he was ever meant to sing this song.
And in the parts he actually ends up singing on the official version, he does actually an amazing job. So I attribute the subpar singing here as a reflect of a work in progress, rather than an inability by Roger's part.. i wrote some lyrics before, and i totally identify with the apparently unclearness on how to end a verse when you're singing, and then, a while after, actually finding an awesome way of ending it.
nice!! ive heard the wish you were here immersion set version thats titled "youve got to be crazy" and david gilmour sings the vocals, but this one is cool too! ill never get enough of this fucking band, my obsession with this band is beyond crazy
Me too Syd!! I think my 3 grand trip to Newport this past summer to see Roger Waters & my planned trip to Chicago this spring are proving my PF obsession is getting costly! Lol. Will Luv them 4-ever!
BEST BAND EVER! 78 PHILLY ! SPECTRUM ! This song is MASTERY AT ALL LEVELS! I know and love passionate music and it is my favourite song ever!
Really well done! They always are! I do actually prefer the version they had on the album. The way they had David sing the first half and Roger sing the second half really worked well.
They cut a lot of the guitar parts, and not only, it's amazing to see what production and mastering can do for a song.. So many people actually created this piece of music, way more than the band itself..
That’s true, but the band members (particularly David and Roger) actually produced a lot of the music, that why their records usually say “produced by Pink Floyd” instead of the name of a producer. That’s not to say they didn’t have other producers or engineers working on the albums though.
4:56 ... is that warbly ambience in the background Rick Wright on Farfisa organ?
DIEJENIGENWELCHEN Yes, good ear there
Definitely Farfisa, good ears
Yeah, you can hear that effect on Division Bell and Broken China too.
The first guitar solo made it to the album version.
Wright’s keyboards,glorious.
The greatest band ever♥️
A new twist on an old classic, Gotta love it. Thanks Floyd for recording it, Thanks Steve for posting it. Way to !
One of the greatest scenes ever in tv comedy used this song.
The last stanza, with the lines all starting with "who was," lacks the impact it had when Rog used either the tape loop (as he did on "Dogs"), or David and Richard sing in the round (as he did on "You Gotta Be Crazy"). It falls a bit flat.
interesting ...but im glad they had gilmoue sing it and roger come in when it mattered
Gilmour can do pretty, or angry, but Waters says how he feels.
I'm so glad we got the one we did, because Roger singing David's parts is pretty bad.
This is just a guide vocal
One of the most underrated album of rock hi
story
No way
First Lead guitar sounds exactly like the album. As do the harmony guitar lines when they come in. I'd say they're the same.
This song so damn relevant, it's frickin' crazy!
Why do I like it even though it sounds so awkward?
Alucinante !!! ( como sempre no Pink)
Absolument géniale,du très grand FLOYD
anyway, best song ever by floyd
This song should've been called "Shlarpy Shmarpy Shmoyds."
Thank god David sang the first part on the album
The instrumental tracks sound close to the final ones. The mix is very different, but some of the regular elements are there. The vocal tracks are very rough, and follow the original live lyrics back when they were considering these songs to be part of the Shine On You Crazy Diamond album (which would have Shine on as side 1, You got to be crazy and Raving and Drooling as side 2).
The "reap the harvest you have sown" on Dogs/You got to be Crazy sounds like it's the final version, but missing some overdubs and additional vocals.
I would prefer a version with the music and Roger`s vocal parts from "You`ve Got to Be Crazy 1974" and David`s vocals from the original. So sad my version does not exist :(
U can mix it
@@baitman2368 I'm not that good at it (:
That pinch harmonic there in 6:51
What a treasure!!!
just look at that David Gilmour would you... they shoulda put a photo of him, from exactly around this time, on that Voyager disc.
Waters. El Genio.....
Tal cual
Interesting Waters alternate. Like both voices but they made proper choice for the finished product.
Been listening to this album for the past 8 years. Didn't even think there was a demo. Absolutely incredible that these demos exist, I'm actually gobsmacked tbh. They did the right thing in the end. 😂
But my god, how insightful that we can hear rog sing the first part.... Mad
SO VERY TALENTED,
Incredible. Thank you
This version is more concise as it doesn't contain that mid-section with all the howling and Vocoder work in it. Plus this has more of Rick's keyboard parts in it that eventually got mixed out of the final version. Interesting demo.
Thanks for posting, I enjoyed listing to the different version I'm a big Roger Waters fan but I agree they made the right decision to have David Gilmour sing first
Who told Roger that he could sing? It really DOES sound like animals!
"Who told Roger that he could sing?" About a hundred million record buyers. Who's Daniel Bernard?
This guy is fucking moron
Its called putting all your anguish and pain into a work
thank you for this
Best version is the live one they played in November 1974 at Wembley.
Yes, I agree..I was there that night. First half of the Show....Shine On......You Gotta Be Crazy......Raving and Drooling.....Second Half of the Show....Dark Side of the Moon..Complete with Circular Screen and Animation......Brilliant Concert....
Good shit PF.
Pretty cool....got admit!
This is really great, Thank you
Viva Gilmour...
Viva Waters*
Devin Ellis
Juanka Trevi Viva both of them, as well as any other member and the whole Pink Floyd!
Viva Wright y Mason
Sin Waters, Gilmour, Wright y Mason simplemente hubieran sido un buen grupo, uno de tantos.
No se olviden de Barret El loco diamante
David was a striking looking guy
5:40 the guitar solo it's darker than the one that made the record, wonder if David uses a different scale or something
Nope, still mainly minor pentatonic with some notes from the minor scale
I love Waters voice on this.
Dogs is best, most impactful song ever
Wow.
The last thing i will mention , is the non moog sections are awsome , Roger waters voice comes through even better for me , cheers Steve
Dave singing the first half on the album version is way better than this.
I prefer Roger's voice.
Dave did a much better job
xunit94
Dave did a better job on Dogs than a lot of songs. Most of the time he sings like he's bored as fuck.
Devin Ellis
Time? Comfortably Numb? Welcome to the Machine? Did he sound bored to you?
Dave's smooth vocals and Roger's manic highs together in song are what made Pink Floyd great. The two of them sharing vocals on Dogs is why it's one of my favorite Floyd songs.
Waters sings first part.
Sounds awesome! More rough I guess.
guitars solos and drums went on disc.
Whoa! This is Very Cool!
Awesome,
Great post. Would you happen to be from the Hometown/Oaklawn, Ill. area as I? (Knew someone with the same name 'back-in-the-day'). Again, thank's for the great 'rare' post's!
!
Thanks!
cooooool.
💖
I hoped you would like this Lily. Back on the block in BG
Although gilmour has a better voice, i prefer roger singing this, he sounds freaking amazing
Muito top.
