  • I've been asked a few times to look at ABS and if there's any difference between Low and Default... Here is that video! Now it's very hard to do a like for like test, but hopefully this video helps you decide what setting to pick!
    ...Enjoy :)

    A few comments have asked about Tyre Wear. So I didn't do a Tyre Wear test specifically because in Gran Turismo essentially if you slide at any point there will be more tyre wear on the rears. So automatically yes, if the rear does slide there would be more tyre wear. But if the car is rotating more it could actually mean reduced tyre wear on the front (The same as the extreme setup scenario video). I hope that helps explain the tyre wear situation.
    TL DR;
    - More Rear slide means more Rear Tyre Wear
    - More Rear Slide may mean less Front Tyre Wear because the car was suffering Understeer and Tyres been scrubbed.

    I love this channel so much because you always approach this game with that kind of experiment-driven rigor. From the car profiles, to the optimal-based timing, to videos like this, it’s a real privilege to someone like provide evidence-backed conclusions to important questions that otherwise get lost with anecdotal (or straight up ass-pull) responses on forums or comment sections

    I use the weak setting for ABS but my brake balance for MR and RR cars is -3 or -2 depend on the track. For me it works better because i use hard braking and trail braking at the entrance. That gives a rotation towards the inside of the corner because the weight transfer compresses a lot the front suspension, making the front of the car more maneuverable whilst the rear stays in line due to engine braking and the force from the actual brakes.
    It's my driving style that makes this set up work. In some corners, I'm faster, but in other corners, I'm slower. It depends on the track.
    Thought I give my penny of experience, though i play GT7 for a few months, but I'm not new to GT Series.
    Always you do an excellent work Tidg.

      I specifically didn't run Tyre wear because this will be even more driver dependant on weak. If there's more sliding on the rear there will be more rear tyre wear. But more rotation may mean less tyre wear on the front as the fronts aren't being overturned.

    I feel like a big part of this is also pedal work. If you've got a nice load cell brake, you're going to have a much easier and less risky time extracting better performance out of weak ABS (or OFF if you're feeling frisky).

      That's the point I'm making in the video. Even at 0 you would get more rotation on Weak ABS. But this is also car dependant. 0 Brake balance on some cars will still be rear biased compared to other cars.

    • @toebeeone
      @toebeeone Місяць тому

      @tidgney yeah, this video is more for +5 brake people. On motorcycles, we call this "backing it in." 😁. Sliding the rear with either rear brake or engine braking. Anyway, I hope you had a good weekend.

    • @willywillywillywillywilly
      @willywillywillywillywilly Місяць тому

      That’s only true if you’re near the limit of grip in the rear and want to initiate (often uncontrollable) slip. For most cars, brake balance +5 to the rear allows for more turning under braking, better trail braking, by freeing up a portion of the front tires’ grip that would’ve been used for braking and using it to turn.

I'm a mess and cant get clean fast laps. I'm not sure if BB+5 is the best setting? Any chance you can do a video on Brake Bias settings, and what's best for which car? As in FF. Rule of thumb with brake balance, if the rear feels loose, move the balance forward to add stability, varies by track and by car.
      I adjust mine on the fly on some tracks as different sectors react better to tighter (front) or looser (rear) bias

      As Matt has mentioned, my rule of thumb;
      - Car Understeers move to the Rear
      - Car Oversteers move to the front
      - Car Tyre Wear is to heavy on the Front move to the Rear
      - Car Tyre Wear is to heavy on the Rear move to the front.

    I use weak mainly but i do feel it can be car dependent, like some cars feel way to sketchy using weak and some cars it feels unnecessary using weak for them.

  • @thomaswalbeck1087
    @thomaswalbeck1087 Місяць тому

    Nice explanation! What i also found is that weak ABS allows you to brake a tiny bit later when you hold the pressure to around 90-95% instead of 100%, not sure if that is similar to default. The braking pressure is also a factor. Like last week daily race at Spa, i struggled with the car suddenly snapping on me in braking zones when i start to trailbrake, specially into T1 and into the chicane after back straight. When i swapped to default ABS i had more control and the snapping went away(magically). Maybe look into pressure aswell in combination with ABS? Would be interesting to see if there ACTUALLY is any difference

    • @tidgney
      @tidgney  Місяць тому +1

      That's to do with ABS activation. So if your car is snapping the rear is probably locking when on weak abs. But when you press it 95% it reduces the force on the tyres and ABS doesn't kick in as much and the wheels have less chances of locking,

    • @thomaswalbeck1087
      @thomaswalbeck1087 Місяць тому

      @@tidgney Yes, that is my initial thought as well, but the snap happens when im going off the brakes and close to ending my braking, so there might be something else that is causing this that i am missing :P
