Oh come on. The scene where the SS man tells him that he would've taken a bullet for Dave is a bigger emotional high than anything that happened with the first lady.
I will not hear anything against 'Dave'. It is the perfect movie. Having said that I never noticed him stealing the ashtray in all the times I watched it.
I loved this channel before Kevin Smith made it known to the masses; this is literally the first time I have ever disagreed. “Dave” is treasure. It opened opposite one of the most watched films of all time, Jurassic Park, and, somehow, still made its mark.
No sin off for, "Hail to the chief, he's the one we all say hail to. We all say hail 'cause he keeps himself so clean! He's got the power because he's in the shower...."?
@@bloggerblogg5878 This movie and _A Fish Called Wanda_ are 100% Kline's tour de farce. ( _Wild Wild West_ and _I Love You To Death,_ OTOH, are... things that happened, which shall be discussed no further!)
FYI Langella has a soft "g" not a hard "g". Also, I was very pleasantly surprised to see you covered this movie. I liked this movie a lot (thanks to Kevin Kline's performance) but I didn't think many people even remembered it.
"Everyone's dead, Dave." "Dave's not here, man." "I'm sorry I can't do that, Dave." Dave: When John is too obvious and Tom, Dick and Harry are out of town.
I’ve been waiting for this one. Missed opportunity for “We have the meats!” for the kitchen scene, but overall very good and long overdue on the new cliche that’s so long I’d rather write this sentence describing it than rewatch this video to remember the exact wording. Also too bad that the greatness of Camden Yards cannot be matched by the team that plays there. Also also, umm… I just wanted to say also also. Have a nice day.
I saw this movie back in school and loved it so much i bought it on DVD. Nobody ever talks about it, so what i'm really trying to say here is thank you for bringing attention to this film.
You keep joking about President's having to be elected but we have actually had a President who was never elected. Nixon's VP was brought up on a scandal and resigned to which Nixon nominated Ford with out being elected to VP or President later became President when Nixon resigned himself. This left Ford becoming President without election and his VP who didn't come around til 5 months later also by appointment of Ford being the only top two people in the legislative branch to never have been elected themselves. Unlike other VPs who became President after the President died they were on the ticket as VP when the President was elected. So the answer is yes there has been an unelected President and VP serving at the same time. At least in this movie the VP had been elected to VP before becoming President.
@@DadOfCall fun factn Washington wasn't the technical first president of the United States. I have to dig up the book I have the talks about it from my storage but he was technically elected to the position just not by the standards we use today.
0:37 Arnold Schwarzenegger had two guys (Peter Kent and Billy D. Lucas) doubling for him repeatedly across a decade’s worth of movies. They don’t just say, “Oh dip, I need a double for a scene tomorrow.”
I love this movie so much, but the ending always confused me. I mean if he is running for public office wouldn't someone kinda recognise that the President who just died is alive and well, with his wife no less, and running for office again?!
If I remember correctly, Dave was already well known to be a president impersonator for comical/satirical sketches during innaugurations, local theaters shows and stuff like that. Kind of a second job of him? Or just a thing he liked to do in the free time? It's been a while honestly...Anyway, he was weel known for looking very alike the president. So it wouldn't have made any difference.
I love this movie, but the real problem with the ending is that the first lady is still very famous. Her life will still be chronicled. When she dates a man that looks exactly like her ex, it will be a scandal. Then people will start looking into him. Then they will ask where was he for the last several months. Who is the Am-Nesian woman he said he ran away with? Then the whole thing falls apart.
Childhood was watching the scene where he axes unnecessary budgets to go towards something better and thinking you want a career in politics to help people. Adulthood is looking at the corrupt bipartisan system and knowing it could never work.
The fact that I say things like “You gotta take a look at this cliche *ding*” (or any of the others he says) watching movies and shows, is so funny to me cuz idk if anyone I say it around gets it but they know I watch these videos 😭
I love it when 6 different, completely unrelated people in a cinema yell "Roll Credits" when the movie name is said in the dialogue, and it's happened multiple times (I'm one of the people lol) in Western Australia! We are legion!
Surprised there were no sins referring to Frank Langella as either of his 2 most iconic villainous characters: Richard Nixon and Skeletor. Either one works well referring to the devious villain in the executive branch character he plays here 😂
Historically, you had Woodrow Wilson have a heart attack and later rumors were that his wife and chief White House personnel ran the Presidency, including signing bills into law, while he was recovering. And his condition was hidden from the public. This was back before we had the law that the Vice President would step in to take control until a President was declared fit to return to office. So ... interesting take for this movie.
I was hoping for video end bits, you'd make a bob's burgers references seeing all the people mentioning "bob" and because kevin kline play's Bob's landlord. Even a simple, "Hello, Bob!"
15:53 We'd seen it twice. Nixon's impeachment didn't reach conclusion ("you can't fire me, I quit"), but proceedings had begun and he knew the writing was on the wall.
No, no, "f**king with the Secret Service" would be excellent, not a ding. :) Also, the line about the Vice President being mentally unbalanced was a jab at Dan Quayle.
I don't know I would have taken the sin off for f*ing with the secret service because you can't say with certainty that most of us wouldn't try that maneuver
I've loved this movie for years, but up to now was never aware how many idiotic plot elements were there that could have sunk a less well-acted movie. This was a movie that was literally saved by its cast.
The doctor says "Even for a man with a minor stroke you seem to have made a remarkable recovery." That line should read "For a man with a minor stroke" or "Even for a man with not health problems you're in remarkably good shape. It's like you didn't have stroke at all." The "Even" at the beginning is confusing since as far as this guy knows he did have a minor stroke.
The scene at 11:37 is awesome, but it always bothered me because the President of the US doesn't have a line item veto, so this whole budget cutting maneuver could never have worked.
Did you seriously leave out the scene where when Dave exposes the corruption on the guy that was going to try and run for president, and everyone just left him for dead and he's sitting there in an empty living room?
10:41 I’m pretty sure she was about to call him a prick, but noticed that the size implied by that word would not be an accurate description. But I haven’t seen the movie, so it’s just a guess
When I first saw this movie as a kid, it got me interested in politics. Little did I know that later on, the greatest connection I would have with the characters would be that I became a professional long-term temp.
I love this movie and will watch whenever it's on. Apparently in 2nd grade I wrote in my bio at school this was my favorite movie. No sins here and Kevin Kline can get it! 😃
"I was already attracted to his physical form" I've always wondered if that relationship works out, how would the world react to the President's widow dating a man who looks exactly like him?!

Hey guys!! Did all watch this on Ovation TV last weekend together?? Then played it 4 times that night. Then like 6, maybe 5 days later, this popped up. Nuckin Futs.
Didn’t see it yet, but the shower glance and stutter was her about to say same old “prick” but that language was too much for the movie, so the glance was to imply that word before she chose a different word. That was what I thought anyway
End credits: "Have you ever driven through a red light?" "I failed to yield at a crosswalk. I changed lanes at the intersection. I changed lanes without signalling while running a red light and SPEEDING! "

I just love the title of this video because instead of a movie, it just sounds like Cinema Sins has a big beef with this one guy at work or whatever~
Just as classic as “Everything Wrong With Jennifer’s Body”
Freakin' Dave, man. THE SANDWICH WAS CLEARLY MARKED, DAVE!
Maybe they really do and this a blunt jab at him
Everything wrong with Layer Cake: IT STILL RUNS OUT AAAAAAA

Fun fact, this movie was loosely based upon Robert Heinlein's Sci Fi book 'Double Star' written a LONG time before this movie came out.
