If I'm not mistaken I think that's a Coelecanth. The one that was thought to be extinct, and was found in a net in 1949. That's an awesome find. It's not very often you find fossils of a species that's still alive on the planet!
Coelacanths are so prehistoric, their hearts are a simple S-shaped tube.
It's a lepidotes
Crazy how the same animal can be found alive today (possibly) as well as in a fossil from millions of years ago.
The ammonites are beautiful as always, but the fish...wow! Every scale is so perfectly delineated! An unbelievable find. Lucky you! Awesome video, that's a marvelous place to hunt!
Hello I'm the knot man if you join my channel I join yours we might have some cross interesting filming thank you
Haha the fish is super isn't it! It was surreal finding it :D I can only dream of finding another it would seem! They're just so rare here
Hi Yorkshire fossils can you do a vid about the top 10 best places to find fossils in a future vid
I love the enthusiasm you have finding these fossils. I know I'll be watching for some time . It reminds me of finding a rich deposit of fossils in Algeria back in 1978 and looking up on this cliffs that had stuff protruding out everywhere. Being able to travel easily, Ill be heading out your way soon. Ill have to research the area.
I've found the locations he goes too by doing a bit of digging and will be going in June. :)
not only is it a fossil fish its a jewel. Beautiful area!
sure is isn't it! one of my favourite gems
@@YorkshireFossils do you sell any of the fossils you find?

Brilliant memories - need to go back up there. The ammonite in the nodule at 5.30mins odd was similar to one I found as a 7 year old back in the 70's in the cliff wall - I just thought i'd found some Roman pottery 😣 when I got home with my parents in our old yellow transit camper van it dropped from the back to reveal a full ammonite - my interest in collecting (all sorts) started. Wish I still had it though no idea where it went ☹
That was an incredible fish fossil bro.. shining scales like fossil gemstone..
You may have fuelled a passion for fossil hunting in me with this video 🙂👍 I never realised how interesting fossils actually are 😃 thank you 👍
It must be fascinating to live in an area that fossils are so plentiful. This is an amazing video!
That area looks a lot like the place that Hipgnosis used for the setting of the Led Zeppelin album cover for Houses Of The Holy.
Man, I wish I had a place like that! I am from Massachusetts in the US. There are many places with dinosaur tracks in the rocks. They are to big to take out. I used to take my kids to the trails. They used to love it
Cool finds liked it all a lot
👍👍👍😜🏴🦄😁✌️
Thanks, glad you like! :D
What a find!! I’ve never seen a fish fossil like this one. Congratulations!! Sweet little ammonites as well. Great place!
Can you add some graphics explaining a little about each genus/species you can identify with any supporting information. Thanks for the vids, love them
Will aim to in future vids, thanks for the idea 👌🏻
Beautiful place. I am trying to find fossil by my self too but it is very difficult, but someday..
I'll learn from this channel. Thanks for sharing.

Yep I came here for the fish 🐟🐠😁😀👍
oh thanks , but will see all :-)

20 minutes from me is a wonderful area called Rock Glen Conservation area. There are mainly 3 types of fossils found here - crinoids, brachiopods, and trilobites. Trilobites being quite abundant. It is quite a hike to get down to the waterway to find these fossils but it is worth it not only for the fossils but for the scenery. I would love love love to find what you are finding in your area.
Biggest Fish Fossil you'll ever see right here ua-cam.com/video/qAyvdLRpjyI/v-deo.html Must see!
Love it down there, that recent cliff fall is a belter! Was down there this Tuesday, it’s certainly been battered by the tides over the last 3 weeks.
really big isn't it! shame nothing much has been in it

Such a Beautiful shore and so many fossils.Wish I was there!
Fantastic video dude , it brought back memories of when I went fossil hunting there many years ago, so pleased I found your channel 👍💀🌴
Enjoyed this video very much!!! The fish is INCREDIBLE!!! Thank-you!
Nice, glad your channel came up as a suggestion. HH, keep showing off those great lost treasures
I can't get over how many fossils you find out there! So many ammonites, I haven't found an ammonite yet, quite a few crabs though! 🦀🦀🦀
Love your channel cuz you show us how u prep those crabs
You don't want catch crabs mate, you may need to see an sexual health clinic about that.
Years ago when I was a kid in the South Wales valleys we had a large open cast coal mine close to where I lived and I spent many hours collecting fantastic fossils there. Some of the fossils were massive and very detailed. Ferns tree trunks and all sorts of leaves and branches. The largest fossils would have required lifting gear to move, so remained where I found them.
Anyway one of my school teachers asked me to bring my fossil collection in to be put on display at the school as part of an exhibition. All my best fossils were sorted boxed and put on display. When the exhibition ended I went to get my fossils. Yep! You've guessed it no-one knew where they were and I never saw them again. One young lad learnt a very valuable lesson that day. Never trust those in authority!
Could probably say “that’s all ancient history now” but you might not find it funny 👍✌️
That's horrible!! Shame on them!!
As a fellow Yorkshireman i enjoy to see your vids in our County .
As a child we had a holiday with the school back in the 70s at Filey. I still remember finding a Devils Toe nail ! Most of us found one, and a few lucky kids found An Ammonite. Not had any luck since 40 years later. My eyes were closer to the ground then, that i thinks helps :)
Cant beat the Yorkshire coast come rain or shin, mostly rain lol
Keep the good work up fellow Yorkie Puds !
PS that fish needs taking to Whitby and frying with some Chips !
When I was in the UK in 2019 I went fossil hunting at Charmouth Beach, Dorset. I found some beautiful ammonites without having to smash rocks. Everyone else was smashing everything in sight but I calmly walked along the beach and rocks and found a crystallised ammonite fossil. I took it to the Mary Anning Museum and the lady was very surprised at my finds.
I also found a lovely partial trilobite fossil at Seaton, East Devon.
Thankfully I was able to bring my fossils home to Australia.
Your fish fossil is incredible and I love the colour and shine.
Really cool stuff, thank you for sharing this.
I love how everywhere you step & everything you touch seems to be a fossil. I dig for gemstones and minerals here in North Carolina. I know if I was there I would be there every day looking for fossils.Your 🐟 fossil is AMAZING I have never seen a 🐟 fossil before.

Thank you so much! You and your brother are so lucky to live close to the shore! I am landlocked in Alberta, Canada and would have loved to live where you are. I really enjoyed this video!
Alberta has the richest fossil-bearing shale in the world- Burgess Shale near Emerald Lake.
It’s closed to the public, but there’s still great pickings in the area.
Awesome find!!! I’ve never seen anything like that before!!! GL&HH! ~Andrew

Beautiful specimens, and the fish fossil is really incredible. Congratulations 👏👏👏
Thanks a lot! 🙌🏻
Great video!
As a New Zealander, I'm so envious of the UK's geology (with your ancient rocks!). Soooo many fossils there!
New Zealand's geology is mostly quite young so really interesting fossils like trilobites, ammonites, dinosaurs etc are quite rare.
Wow 🤩 amazing fossils and so many to be found would love a day trip to your beach !! That fish fossil is awesome and you know your stuff extremely knowledgable and interesting 🙂🙂 and all the work you put into cleaning up wow 🤩
I am into this now. Thank you for sharing. Subscribed and will be watching.
I think you need to take a small pail, water and alginate (for making casts) and make molds of the fossils you see but can't take. Perhaps take some plaster also. That way, you can make replicas of fossils and color them with paint or tint the casting medium.
Wow love watching you collect the fossils. Have you done a video if cleaning and preparing them? If not would be great to see how you do it. Looking forward to the next one 🙂
I will make a preparation video at some point 🙂
Yorkshire Fossils look forward to it 🙂

The fossils of past creatures are limited in number. It's exciting to find it.
This is an absolutely mind blowing piece 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Excellent break towards the end. Very nice fish! Wow.
The cliff area your working at seems to have deposits in Devonian period where there was a huge explosion in the diversity of marine life.
No. It is Jurassic. Hildoceras, Dactylioceras, Eleganticeras, The Icthyosaurs he finds, Steneosaurus, are ALL animals found in the Jurassic. Just look up "Jurassic Coast of England" or "Lyme Regis." Please don't add information unless you are 100% certain it is true, as other people may read it and be misinformed.

why am i the only one who liked this
I love it! Thank you for sharing such a memorable adventure!! I love fossils ♥️!!
You are most welcome, glad you enjoyed it!
incredible place!!! Hello from UKraine))
Very well constructed video. I remember going down to that area years ago while at University with a field trip to collect, we saw an ammonite and thought 'Wow' and then another and another our bags and pockets were filled immediately and the we had to start thinking, as you do, and be properly selective of our specimens. Nice work!
Thanks a lot i appreciate that, there's loads here at times isn't there! And other times actually very little. Thats what makes it so fun and exciting 😆

Wow...
And it was nice of you left that ammonite fossil for others to find. I have never seen one in real, would be so amazed if I can ever come across one :)
Thank you for the nice intro it was well edited. Too many of these types of videos involve a guy overdoing it and screaming at finding a fossil.
you're most welcome :) I quite enjoy trying to be creative with the intro's if i can, i feel it sets the scene nicely
I have a fossil that I love you to look at, my grandson found it last year, how do I send you a pick thankyou I love you to tell me what you think it is thankyou
I would recommend a website called "thefossilforum.com" It is full of experienced amateurs and professional paleontologists alike, who are glad to teach you and help you and your grandson get in to the wonderful world of fossils.
What a epic spot. We have a huge limestone deposit near us in Geelong, Victoria, Australia . Most of it is a cement quarry. We always went fossil hunting there as kids. Among my best finds is a near perfect medium size Megladon Tooth. The limestone is soft too. So I'm thinking you fellas have to work a bit harder exposing with the shale, but the rewards are more often.
That fish looks like the coelacanth. It was a fish that was thought to be extinct until some fishermen found one! Very nice fish fossil you found there!

Where are you located? I would die to find an ammonite
Yorkshire’s Jurassic Coast, in North and East Yorkshire, England, UK
Fantastic County, although I am slightly biased being a Yorkshireman myself
That fish fossil is really cool.
In 77 when I was 14 we lived south of Miami, FL. on the edge of the Everglades.
The ground was coral rock, with sharp edges. A hole was dug and I was on the pile tossing rocks.
One rock was smooth, so I looked at it. It was a fossilized fish head. One side was perfect, eyes, mouth and teeth marks of what bit off the body. The other side was not as sharp and the eye was missing.
The fish head looked like a modern mullet.
Because I found it fast and easy, I thought it must be common and tossed it.
A few days later I found out it was rare, but could not find it again.
What a great memory🤩
Unbelievable ! Thank you to share this magic discovery...
Ironic that I get a shell commercial before this video.
