Love interviews like this. They're always so different and interesting from the usual developer interviews that people usually have. I loved both this one and the Blzzard one you did previously. Keep it up.
12:57 In another interview I saw, he spoke about how when he first started working on FFXIV back in 1.0, there was a case where White Mage could cast Cure 3 basically as much as they wanted without fear of running out of MP. Of course, this meant that all the other healing spells were rendered moot and there was never a reason to cast anything else. It was just bad game balance, so he implemented changes to make it so they would run out of MP if they just spammed their most powerful healing ability. However, this led to backlash from the players who now felt stressed, because now they had to actually consider their resources and what spells to use when. He said it was something that surprised him, but it was also a valuable learning experience. From then on, whenever they make a mistake, they always try to correct it ASAP and give an explanation to the players *why* the change is necessary, so that people don't get accustomed to a broken mechanic. But he also believes that small adjustments on a larger scale will allow people to enjoy the game and slowly be ushered towards a new direction, rather than suddenly changing direction all at once, which can be disorienting and lead to people not enjoying the game. It's a very interesting design philosophy. Of course, if the adjustments are too small, it can make people feel like the game is stagnating or not really going anywhere, so it's a balancing act.
I really hope they stick to that ideal of not abandoning mechanic ideas in favor of safer ones (limit cut, buddy stacks, etc). Nothing drags at this game quite like playing tier after tier that makes me wonder why we haven't had any more fights as compelling to progress as Titan Savage was. I love cool shit like Uplift and I really don't want them to abandon them just because people get upset at losing uptime or the boss going invincible or whatever else. There's cool ideas that deserve to see more play in this game so the raids are fresh, not just difficult.
Yaaaay! I'm so happy you got to sit down, legend to legend! Can't wait for chat bubbles, and I hope one day to be there in "person" for one of chats amazing plays!

Bro got a dinner invitation from Yoshi P to discuss more game stuff sometime. That's amazing! You know he really values Preach's input on things, and it's easy to see why. Keep up the good work bro. This was a great interview with some great insights.
The thing I love about this, and Mike even says it, for the longest time Mike was always instant NOPE to FFXIV, and now here he is, ranking it multiple times as his favorite video game story, talking to the man himself, I said it in chat when you showed it off live but just in case you see it here, but massive congrats Mike!
This was a great interview. The chemistry was great. The questions that were asked were well thought out and delivered nicely and the part where you got Yoshi P to laugh at the "lala's being used as a raid marker" really brought it home for me. It was obvious that there was mutual respect. Great interview.
I love this. The man who got to have my most favorite interviews with Ion Hazzikostas also scored an interview with the great Yoshi-P himself? Hot. Damn.
Thanks for a great interview and always a pleasure to see Yoshi-P discussing philosophy and approach rather than just specific details (which while great, but are easily found through playing/live letters/resources)
Cannot believe the dude who I used to watch mess around recording a webshow about the game I loved back then, on his couch with a mate, is now sitting across a couch from Yoshi-P talking about the game I love now.
21:35 I love the look Yoshi-P is giving Preach as his words were being translated. I can't imagine who he was referring to with this comment haha. I'm glad the team is going to keep dungeon design as is.. People asking for more from basic dungeons aren't considering the role these dungeons play in our progression. For those of us playing actively during an expansion, capping tomestones, gearing, etc, it is really nice to have our dungeons be more formulaic, because we're doing them every day. We can be surprised in other ways with specific content catered to the audience who wants more, like with variant/criterion.

Really good to hear you specifically bringing up thinking you wouldn't like the game and how it's won you over; it's clear Yoshida sees this and recognizes the value of your approach to MMOs in general. After all, he's as much a fan as he is a dev.
You're so much better at this whole sort of interview thing than I am. When you ask the question, by the time it's translated to Yoshida, he answers, and it's translated back, I have forgotten what the original question is!
We love developers and writers of FFXIV Online, and all responsible for getting this game to the state it is. Labor of Love and your work is amazing. Don't forget to rest and give yourself time to recover, so you may bring us more amazing works again :)
pso2 can be a fine example of using chat bubbles. but if the dev were frustrated and reluctant to have the option there is an idea for the player wanted to see the chat bubbles and the others who don't. Try go with an option to enable and disable the bubble chat. I too, really curious to have an option having a bubble chat so we can know who the hell is talking to us, wait... somehow bubble chat can also make us know who's the one saying it, despite us disable the name of the character display on players head?
So happy you got to have a sit down wish the man himself. Out of all the people i know with a more broad MMO perspective you’re definitely the one that deserved this the most.
I still think in general for dungeon design, i like the idea of just having all dungeon corridors being open similar to dungeons like mt gulg where you can freely pull corridor to corridor if you so please or you can do wall to wall. even just that at least imo would be a massive dungeon design thing that might be simple enough to do?
lettts gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! i just started playing and i cant live without chat bubbles. I know in wow, in raids/whispers you dont have them.. which is fine. But if we are just talking or in a party or yelling... Then BAM it works. In here they should hide them in raids but if you say or shout / yell you should show those. It makes sense that way. Great interview though, also you're looking very good Preach! If you've been looking after your health lately it shows. :D
Ty!!
Congrats to the team! THIS is the content I love to see and I am excited to see how far you can go!
Chat bubbles confirmed!!
Lol when the Chatbouble Video is longer then the Mediatour Video 😆
more important obviously
Man, I would've loved for you two to talk longer. Someday it will happen. Maybe even out of media tour season and you can have each other for the whole day.
Great Interview, really great questions and really great and direct answers! I'm so relieved to see a developer whose answers are not only "We will see" or "We dont know yet" without any other perspective given. Yoshi-P is just one of THE greats in the MMO industry and with every each interview, rightfully so! :)
All mmos give their perspective and reasoning btw. Maybe it's just not what you want to hear
@@Honzaj Tyjo fakt joo? Tak to jsem vůbec nevěděl! Jsem si to myslel na základě youtube žejo :D Hraješ na Chaosu? :) btw, na chaosu jsem díky tvému videu, protože jsi říkal, že tam hraje nejvíc čechů :D
So glad you got to go to the media tour and had such elite access to Joshi-P. :) You're insight is always appreciated, so happy to see these videos!
as soon as I heard Yoshi P say "world of warcraft" I knew shit was about to go hard, and he really did know Preach. This interview is FIRE. Blizz could frankly never lmao. Well done Preach!
Yoshi P has always and I mean always loved World of Warcraft.
@@therabbits69 hell yoship has always stated that wow and ff14 are both equally good games. The tribalism that has seperated the ex wow ff14 players is so stupid, both do different things better or worse but both are made better by the other existing and pushing new ideas, both teams talk to each and play each others game and strive the best mmos they can.
@@fynale2049 It's the same sort of tribalism that goes into the Apple vs Android debate. I love both games equally, for myriad reasons.
i am another person who has been waiting for Preach to get to speak with Yoshi P since he started his FF journey too! Love the interview!
I am smiling so much. I am soooo glad you got into the game and subsequently into the media tour preach! I know you had a hard year and I did as well. So seeing this whole video so far during my work, I am smiling so hard. Big ❤ from me Mike.
May the rat bless us all.

The only thing keeping Preach from totally chillin with his bff is learning Japanese
So cool you got to interview Preach. I have really enjoyed your XIV content along with all the other FFs. You deserve it.
If anything, Preach gotta update us if he eventually meets up with Yoshida for a lengthy discussion meal.
Fantastic interview Preach, glad that you and your team are a part of this community 👍
Love interviews like this. They're always so different and interesting from the usual developer interviews that people usually have. I loved both this one and the Blzzard one you did previously. Keep it up.
Yoshi-P drip unreal as always
Amazing interview, you both got along really well and 100% take him up on the offer for dinner, wine and chatting more about FFXIV! Well done!
Juuust finished watching Jesse Cox and JP speak with Yoshi P for EW then refreshed yt to this vid!
CHAT BUBBLES LET'S GOOOOO!!!
Preach: [gets really cool interview with Yoshi P]

Time and resource management is Yoshi's real skillset
Yaaaay! I'm so happy you got to sit down, legend to legend! Can't wait for chat bubbles, and I hope one day to be there in "person" for one of chats amazing plays!
This is supper exciting to see happen... I love all your talks with all different developers you have a very unique and way of asking question that I find very entertaining to watch keep up the great work Preach.
Just finished the video YESSSS!!!!! CHAT BUBBLES ARE A REAL THING THAT IS HAPPENING
This is such a wonderful interview, just an honest conversation about video games and the people who play them. These two men are international treasures.
Great interview and wonderfully insightful questions! Thanks for sticking with FFXIV!!
Thank you! Brought a huge smile to my face! I just finished base Endwalker and saw this notification... perfection..
Bro got a dinner invitation from Yoshi P to discuss more game stuff sometime. That's amazing! You know he really values Preach's input on things, and it's easy to see why. Keep up the good work bro. This was a great interview with some great insights.
Great questions Mike!! Thank you and your team for this fantastic interview
Thanks for the great questions and drawing out some interesting insights from him! Also thanks for chat bubbles 👍
That’s awesome! Happy you got to interview him.
Yoshi-p seems to understand a lot of English even before the translators do their job! He is such a cool guy, always love watching his interviews.
Yoshi is a treasure this man must be protected at all costs. Fantastic interview Preach.
Really amazing interview!
Thank you for this ^^
That was so cool! I can't believe you got a one on one with Yoshi P, great video!
Thanks so much for leaving both translators in! I actually liked that a lot!
Hell yeah I love hearing both sides with their own voice + translation makes it feel more real and personal
Props to the team and to the translator. Great interview
This was a great interview, and I think Preach going from "stupid weeb gane" (unironically) to "stupid weeb game" (after Seto scene) to this interview has been an awesome journey!
so happy to see this, i love the PG journalism and i was saddened to not get it but i am glad it happened
Chat bubbles would be amazing. You can visually see in a crowd where someone who's talking is standing.
Amazing interview! I love your interviews and it's great to see such an interesting conversation.
Really happy you got to Media Tour Preach. Congrats man!
Such a fantastic interview!! I'm so thankful that you decided to try 14, otherwise we'd have never gotten to see this!
Also I would take a punch to the head to protect Yoshi P. What a beacon of light in the gaming community, love that dude!
I'm just so happy for you right now
I'm glad the team is going to keep dungeon design as is..
You're doing them everyday, so you want them the same??? I'd want them hard to engage my mind, not easy to fall asleep to.
@@xalmor6044 They want them over with ASAP since they're doing them every day. These aren't the things that get them exited, so in and out, quick and done. There are other things in the game they go to for engagement.
What a genuine and beautiful interview, thank you to both of you for making this happen :D
Congrats Mike! I hope you get to have dinner with him sometime, hanging with the staff
The next time you go to meet yoshi-p you should bring whiteboard cutouts in the shape of chat bubbles for you two to write messages to each other on lmfao
15:00 He is spot on. Even though I never heard this before today, I could schedule how much time I have before I have to log off and plan accordingly.
Mike I am THRILLED that you had this opportunity and even more so that you chose to share it with all of us. I had goosebumps from excitement from start to finish. Thank you for all that you and your team do to connect with us! Cheers!
Such a great meeting! And no mentions of the scary red headed woman!
hey im slow who is that supposed to be lol
This was a fantastic chat. Yoshi-P is always really interesting to talk to and Mike has been a real gem of an addition to the community since he started XIV.
Great interview, thanks for being awesome Mr.Preach!
So happy for you Preach! This was a great interview 🎉 yay for chat bubbles!! 🥂
Preach asking the perfect questions. Incredible work
I already had chat bubbles, but I'm so glad that content creators will soon have them without risking getting banned.
We love developers and writers of FFXIV Online, and all responsible for getting this game to the state it is.
Labor of Love and your work is amazing.
Don't forget to rest and give yourself time to recover, so you may bring us more amazing works again :)
Preach omg!!! This is so cool!!! I’m so excited for you!
pso2 can be a fine example of using chat bubbles. but if the dev were frustrated and reluctant to have the option there is an idea for the player wanted to see the chat bubbles and the others who don't. Try go with an option to enable and disable the bubble chat. I too, really curious to have an option having a bubble chat so we can know who the hell is talking to us, wait... somehow bubble chat can also make us know who's the one saying it, despite us disable the name of the character display on players head?
Congrats man. Awesome to see you got the chance to sit down with him. He is such a based Dev
I am so glad you guys got the invite, great great video. keep itup!
Im so happy this happened. Im really glad preach is appreciated by the ff devs too.
So happy you got to have a sit down wish the man himself. Out of all the people i know with a more broad MMO perspective you’re definitely the one that deserved this the most.
Dinner and wine with Yoshida? Lucky Preach
Thank you for convincing him for it
This was a wonderful interview, really looking forward to all ff14 content you will continue to put up for sure!
Great work Preach! Love these interviews you get to do. 👍
In every interview that Yoshi P does you can tell he is a passionate gamer that just wants to make a great game
