Hi do you still remember where do you exactly put the 8m bolt to hold the engine support bar? I’m planning to remove my transmission also, buy at Harborfreight the engine support bar
Iv done Acura tsx clutch... power steering lines ran down sub frame... had to undo steering rack... my question is did you have to mess with steering rack... i have this job comming up... Thank You... Good video...
Hi bronco thanks for the video! It will be my first time opening a transmission. Could you put a list of all the bearing that you replaced? If possible and did you got them oem?
First let me say thank you and very good video! I am currently doing a manual trans swap on my 04 civic. Now i had a quick question about the mounting bolt for the engine support. Did you remove the existing threaded bolt and put the m8 x 1.25 bolt in its place or do you thread into that existing bolt? I bought the service manual cd that you recommend and the picture isn't very clear.
what I mean is that on my wife's vehicle I believe it was an empty threaded hole...as though they put it there for the sole purpose of using to hold the engine up. Maybe it's used on some vehicles depending on options? look for an empty hole...

It's pretty small. I picked it up myself to put it on the bench....probably 50lbs?? definitely easier if you borrow a trans jack....or buy one from Harbour Freight with the money you save doing it yourself
I put the legs of the bar on the fender flanges on each side of the engine bay (same flange the the fender bolts go thru into the body structure). To hold up the engine on the trans side there is a place for a bolt to go....I kind of show it in the video, where i talk about needing a bolt that isn't too long. I didn't have an extreme close up of exactly where it goes...but there will be a bolt hole with nothing in it in the area I show at the 3:15 mark.
Half what the service manual is bullshit. Also if you guys dont have the support for the top you can support engine with jack underneath. Just be careful.
Oh man that really sucks. Thankfully my Civic is worth about 2000-3000 bucks and I think replacing gearbox + clutch would cost about 1000 icluding labour and parts if I let someone with more know-how do it. Not sure though if it's worth to fix it with salvage gearbox if failing input shaft bearing is common fault with these.
Thanks! It's nice to see the occasional no BS video.
thank-you
This video was LIFE CHANGING!!! Thanks Bronco...ehhhhh!!!
glad I could help!
Nice video man... I'm dropping the transmission on my 2007 civic si right now.

Someone asked that...below in the comments I have a response and the estimated time in the video where it is shown.
BroncoColdsteel ok I’ll check
there is no need to drop the frame. That's crazy. Transmission will come out with the frame hanging on the one side it's a little harder but it goes

Thanks. I don't believe so. if it's not in the video then I didn't mess with it.

Luis D. definitely use OEM bearings. I purchased mine from the local Honda dealership.
BroncoColdsteel Thanks for the video did the work took me around 15 hrs by myself. But everything came out perfect thank you for the video!
Hey where did you get like all of the new replacement bolts from? Some of mine could be replaced
Autozone.

It has been a couple years....but I believe I did not have to remove any bolts to put that mounting bolt in place.

+BroncoColdsteel awesome! Thank you for the very fast response and the info! Your video is a life saver!
this looks hard, what are my options if i dont have a transmission jack?
gotta go old school....regular floor jack at the balance point of the trans...and some muscle and patients.
How heavy was that transmission?
It's pretty small. I picked it up myself to put it on the bench....probably 50lbs?? definitely easier if you borrow a trans jack....or buy one from Harbour Freight with the money you save doing it yourself
that's a good point. Thanks for the video its very helpful
I really really wanted to watch this but the volume is all over the place :/
using the bar where did you support the transmission side from

question what's the support bar red supporting the engine does it have a technical name /brand.

Well, that didn't paste the way I expected. Harbor Freight calls it "Engine Support Bar"
+BroncoColdsteel thanks dude . much appreciated. working on my clutch as we speak .. on my ep3
02-05 was the Si. But this one isn’t an Si. Does this still apply?
I'd rather not remove the subframe. Is it possible to move the transmission enough to replace the clutch/pressure plate/throw-out bearing?
I don't know.
does this transmission have a mount? if so where is it in the video?
Can I pay you to do this with my 04 civic? I’m in upstate New York and I only need the Input shaft bearing replaced
Would be significantly more useful with sound/cc
There is cc
You dont have to remove the subframe theres enough space to wiggle the trans off do the job and put it back on
exactly I don't know why he dropped a frame , that's crazy wasting time and now motor swinging
how come it says 2002-2005. Is there a difference with the 2001?
I am not sure. The transmission may be the same, but the steps to remove and install would probably be different for the 2001.
Nima Malayeri the 7th generation of civics is 2001-2005 broken down into sub groups of 2001-2003 and 2004-2005.
Video would be great if it had sound
Audio is top shelf...probably time for new speakers or ears.
when you reinstall the subframe you should not use the same bolts! these bolts are designed only to be used once
spawn90761 bullshit man reuse bolts !
Volume :(
Half what the service manual is bullshit. Also if you guys dont have the support for the top you can support engine with jack underneath. Just be careful.
Volume super bad. You blew it
The audio is perfect. You must have cheap speakers.
Cant hear shit
Audio is dumpster fire ....
Damn that seems a lot of work to get to change one damn bearing inside the gearbox. Maybe I ditch the car instead and never buy Honda again.
yeah...car was worth too much to ditch.....sadly it was totalled 6 months after I did all this work. :-(

ya definitely never buy a honda again they're total crap, who would expect bearings to wear after 17-13 years of use.. /s
One awful video I had ever seen.
