The intro in the first episode literally explains his motivation for why he gave the apple to humans, it literally recontextualises the garden of eden story from lucifers perspective and says that he gave the fruit of the tree of knowledge because he wanted to share the wonder of free will but in doing so introduced the possibility of sin and thus hell.

His version from the series from this point of view and position is very reminiscent of the Greek Titan Prometheus. Heaven can then be considered as Olympus, and the Angels as Gods who rejected his ideas, and those that concern people, and just as Prometheus stole fire, so Lucifer allowed People to eat the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, and was punished forever for it, just as Prometheus was chained to a rock where an eagle pecked at his liver, so Lucifer was sent to Hell, if you think of it as a local version of Tartarus. And just as Pandora, who opened the box with the misfortunes and misfortunes of mankind, so Eve, having tasted the fruit, allowed evil to spread throughout the Earth.

Nerdy, they explain Lucifer’s fall and motivations in the literally first 3 minutes of the show. Please go back and rewatch it. I think you missed it because you were so caught up in it not being what you expected, you didn’t listen to what they were saying
Nerdy I get you get a lot of criticism and people dog-piling you that is over the line. But THIS is what frustrates people. When you think things are plot holes or bad writing and they aren't you are just missing stuff. Often because you are talking over the explanation to complain something doesn’t make sense.
Like I am fine with you having alternate interpretations or reactions, but when you are so hyper-focused on tiny details or lines that you miss the actual text or themes, it just comes across like you aren’t actually paying attention

I think you're so hung up on the intro being the "biblical" story you missed the fact it's not, it's a play on that story but it isn't literally the biblical story. That intro told you exactly why Lucifer is like this. He's a disaffected and disillusioned idealist who had his dreams crushed by Heaven's rigidity. He "gave" mankind the ability of self determination, but was cast into hell for doing so and in the thousands of years since he's only ever been allowed to see the absolute worst that humanity has done with that gift of free will he gave them. He sunk into crippling depression and anxiety as a result of that trauma which is why he's become a recluse as shown by the start of this. The only thing that can break him out of that self isolation is the love he has for his daughter.
The intro in E1 is the set up of the show and explains pretty much everything we've seen up to this point.

So, here is what we get from Lucifer so far in the show.
Lucifer has always been well-intentioned. As the intro put it, he was a dreamer. So, he gave humans free will through the apple. However, not only was Lucifer punished for this by being banished to hell, but he only saw the worst of humans. He has only faced disappointment from seeing the worst of humanity. So, by the time we've seen him, he's a broken person. He seems to be a largely hands off ruler and is deeply insecure, which is why he immediately lashes out against Alastor.

It’s not like it’s a film where you are expected to understand everything by the time you have finished watching??
Just because things about the world have not been explained to you does not mean it’s not really been thought out?
It usually means that it’ll be explained later on in the series or even in the next season? I feel like this is obvious?

The first scene of the show explicity says that Lucifer's intentions when giving the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge to Eve were actually good. He and Lilith wanted to share the same freedom they had with humanity, but that brought the consequence of giving humans the ability to sin, tainting them with evil. Lucifer was punished by Heaven by being casted into the same hole that was created by his actions and forced to only see the bad his gift brought to humanity. This led him to spiral into a depression that only got worse when he and Lilith separated, which caused his relationship with Charlie to get strained, with Lucifer developing a fixation for ducks in order to cope with all that. Being punished by Heaven also caused a great deal of trauma to Lucifer to the point he didn't want Charlie to have her dreams crushed the same way his were crushed.

22:00 - oh Nerdy, i think you're being impatient about the worldbuilding not answering your questions. the show has only done 5 eps and you expect all this exposition all right out the gate. the problem with that is that if you focus too much on World Building and Exposition, there's gonna be no room for the characters, nor the FUN that is needed to get the show where it is. One Piece does a lot of World Building but it was spread out over 1000+ eps, Hazbin has only 8 eps in the first season, you're not getting a lot of World Building or Exposition in that time. not mad, just try to enjoy what there is rather than fret about structure, the foundation has only begun to be built.

I think you might want to rewatch episode one, because it actually tell you why Lucifer gave the apple. He fell in love with Lilith after she ran away from the Garden, so he gave the Apple - Free Will - as a gift to humanity out of basically his love for them.
And then he was punished for this act by being cast down into hell, being left to only see the people who abused his gift of free will and damned themselves with it.

  • @stewartlaird4571

Lucifer's story was told in ep. 1. Lucifer is described as a creative type that was seen as dangerously radical by the other angels. He fell for Lilith because she refused to submit to Adam, no corruption on his part. They gave Eve the apple because they wanted to give humanity free will. The creation of sin was an accident that he was punished for by being trapped in Hell. Forced to deal with only the worst of humanity for all eternity, Lucifer just gave up and refuses to see the potential good in humans

  • @MxChloeB42

To answer the question as to why there wasn't an establishment of rules with Lucifer and wondering what he does. In the intro sequence of the first episode it heavily implies that Lucifer doesn't do anything to actually rule hell, that it was Lilith who took up actually running the whole system because she felt empowered in hell while Lucifer became withdrawn and lost any hope he had.
Also you'll probably enjoy the next episode for getting some answers you're looking for.
Edit: Also also to the point at the end about the experience of binging it versus episode by episode is very true, the series was essentially released in 2 episode blocks, 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, 7 and 8, and the structure of the episodes, imo, felt like it was built around that experience. So obviously doing reactions to each individual episode is going to give a different experience to that to a degree.

  • @maya95

I don't know much about the lore of the show, so can't comment on the actual intentions. But the way I interpret the premise is that it's a conversation of whether redemption is possible once you've already been damned - hence Adam's hell is a forever stance vs Charlie's redemption stance. If you've been sentenced to eternal damnation, you'd probably eventually give into the depravity of hell, regardless of what you did to end up there. So to me, it doesn't actually matter how anyone got to hell, because it's not about whether or not they deserve to be there, it's about whether they can improve once they are there. Even if it starts with smaller insignificant moments vs a grand plan to save hell's souls. Similar to some of the moral questioning in The Good Place.

    • @lilMALICEundead
      @lilMALICEundead 13 днів тому +2

Exactly! While it’s interesting to learn about their full backstory, being in hell is essentially a “new life” and whether they choose to give in to hell’s norms or work on redemption is what this whole show is about (mostly). Their past life was basically wiped away the second they died because they were “reborn” (?) in hell. The only real insight it would give is their character design. Falling from the sky in hell is kind of a reset button lol

We saw Lucifer being the dreaming idealist in the first episode, for which he was sentenced to only see the worst of humanity.
And then his wife left him and took the kid.
This episode highlighted that he was depressed and had been inadvertently isolating himself.
The rubber ducks is a symptom in the form of hyperfixation.
The final song told us that Lucifer used to be just as idealistic as Charlie and have tried redeeming sinners too, but was repeatedly beaten down and was forced to give up.
The only thing he has left is Charlie, and he really doesn't want her to suffer the same defeat as he did

This show is meant to have its own spin on the original story of the bible, this is not the "biblical" lucifer but rather a different interpretation of lucifer who is caring and wanted humans to have free will, but it just so happened that free will caused evil to take hold in earth. Lucifer didnt mean for evil to find its way into the human realm, but he still was punished by heaven and was banished to hell, forever to see the awful things that come out of humanity because of his actions. Something i do wish was explored more in the show itself is how and why the hotel residents ended up in hell, but that has been explored in q and a's and comics from before the show was green lit.

  • @verdantdruid
    @verdantdruid 13 днів тому +8

I feel like the show has done a good job at portraying Lucifer as a "bringer of light" archetype; Promethean. He gave freewill to mankind as a gift. This is, in this telling and perspective, a positive benevolent action. Like Prometheus gifting fire to mankind. In Episode 1 say that that act created evil and Hell where he an Lilith were cast. Since immediately stuck in Hell, the show tells us that he became depressed and disillusioned because from his gift, Lucifer could only witness the sins of mankind, and not the good of freewill.

But watch the opening of ep 1 and maybe less importantly the start of the youtube pilot. His stories of the beauty of heaven before humanity is what Charlie grew up on, but also in that it mentioned that as part of his punishment he was only ever allowed to see the sinners and the negative consequences of his actions never the good which kind of broke him eventually. It's implied that's why Lilith took Charlie and left. Possibly feeding her the idea that he didn't want to see her and his depression keeping him from reaching out, the isolation adding to his depression. But as the song goes in it becomes clear she's reawakening that part of him that had hope in humanity but he's afraid to open back up.

  • @gremalien

I don’t think Lucifer is really all that in charge. Lucifer is mainly sad of being cast out of Heaven, feeling like the ugly duckling but in this case different from the beautiful Swans that made him leave. I do believe that made his obsession with duckies. It was Lilith that thrived in Hell as it was said in episode 1. With Charlie’s Dad in a state of depression and Charlie’s Mom no where to be found, the princess feels responsible to help her people from absolutely being erased, seeming that Angels are able to do that. The Reason that this is done is because of the overpopulation in Hell, Angels feel like killing about of them every year will help this but she wants to show them that there is good in her people and to allow them to be redeemed and go to Heaven since they got the space available.
I think just like the art is so much that you’ll miss the details is same as missing the answers to your questions. I do think the way you live your life dictates your life after death, many choose to live the lifestyles in Hell. As for Adam, he was privileged as the first soul in Heaven, really doesn’t matter if he was good or not.
I also don’t know whether there is a god but then again this is someone’s story and in their story there might not be.
I do think this is supposed to be an audience guessing game as what’s to happen before it does. It’s what draws people to its adventure, so maybe your questions just haven’t been answered yet or maybe you need to start predicting what will happen.
Love the reaction and the review from you too!! Keep it coming!

    Hazbin Hotel pilot
    01. They accompany Charlie to her meeting at the 666 News Studio, eating donuts until Charlie begins to sing. Razzle plays piano as they both sing and help Charlie during her song.
    Hazbin Hotel Season 1
    "Overture"
    02. They briefly appear in Alastor's commercial for the Hazbin Hotel, helping clean. It is unknown whether they regularly clean the hotel or only did so for the commercial.
    "Scrambled Eggs"
    03. They help Charlie hang the banner congratulating Sir Pentious on his first week at the Hotel.
    "Dad Beat Dad"
    04. They hang another banner as the hotel prepares for Lucifer's arrival. Lucifer greets them immediately after KeeKee, commenting on how they haven't grown and telling them they better have kept Charlie safe. They are later seen flying away above the bar, and Razzle briefly appears in Hell's Greatest Dad as Lucifer sings "usually I charge a sacrificial lamb".
    "Hello Rosie!"
    05. The pair comfort Charlie while she is crying in bed, with Dazzle holding a box of tissues. Though initially passive when Alastor arrives, after he asks Charlie to make a deal, they growl at him and Charlie stops them. When Charlie accepts the deal, the resulting explosion knocks Razzle away and throws Dazzle behind the couch.
    "The Show Must Go On"
    06. After Adam vaporizes Sir Pentious, Charlie calls down Razzle and Dazzle and she begins to transform into her full demon form, then Razzle and Dazzle transform into their own as well. In their demonic forms, Razzle is ridden by Charlie while Dazzle by Vaggie. As they charge at Adam and Lute in the sky, Lute slices Dazzle's wing off, causing him to plummet into the hotel, where she impales him. Meanwhile, Adam knocks Charlie off Razzle.
    07. When the new Hazbin Hotel is built, a statue resembling the full demonic form of Dazzle is added at the hotel entrance in tribute to Dazzle's sacrifice. Razzle can be seen flying beside the statue in his normal form.

The lucifer in the show differs in some ways from "Biblical" version.
Here in Hazbin he gave Eve the apple because he and Lilith wanted to share the gift of free will with her and rest of humanity. He never had evil or ill intent in this act. But because of him evil found its way to earth.
And Lucifer is the king of hell. And he is the most powerful being in hell. So all the other Sins bow to Lucifer.
But despite this he is a sad and broken angel who has only seen the negative after effect of his action of giving free will to humanity.

  • @squeezie_b8895
    @squeezie_b8895 14 днів тому +5

The show is not just about redemption, but that doesn’t become apparent until the next episode.
Heaven in Hazbin is not the Heaven we know and Hell is not the Hell we know. It’s all much more complicated than that and separating myth from fact is a large part of the overarching series.
Tbh, I’m sort of confused as to why you think you would get all the answers right away. Imagine if The Good Place revealed in ep 1 that they’re actually in Hell.

The reason why the extermination is such a big deal (beside the obvious large scale of it) is that sinners do not die when they're killed by anyone other than the exorcists angels. Hellborn do die for real if they die, but not sinners, not the former humans. So the loan sharks who died last episode are still alive. And then again after this episode. That's also why Charlie isn't as concerned about the people Alastor just killed compared to those the exorcists kill, they're not really dead.

  • @sarafontanini7051

we are actually told why lucifer gave humanity the apple in episode 1: we are told he was a dreamer with 'big ideas' and wanted to uplift humanity with the apple(the apple specifically gave nowledge and free will to humanity, or something, rememebr) after he fell in love with lilith. He only acts like this NOW because he beleives what he did was a mistake and that humans have wasted his gift of knowledge after spending millenia in hell seeing ONLY the sinners who benefitied from his gift.
as for why this guy is in charge of hell: that's admittedly less clear, as to how much he actually runs hell and isn't just defacto ruler because he's powerful. however it is said he didn't CHOOSE to rule hell, he was thrown into it as punishment for what he did.

Also, I think the Best way to think about this show is like a puzzle. Every episode you get a new piece of lore and sometimes you think it means something but then you get a new part and it turns out completely differently.
Also Also things are not as they seem!
Like for example, in the first episode when you get the creation of hell story, that is from Charlie's parents' point of view. Who knows if it's really the truth!

Another way to view the story of this show is the commentary it’s making on class systems, and how I interpreted it, thru wealth inequality. While it’s very fantastical on the surface with themes of good vs evil and redemption of those that want to be better people, you could also draw parallels from the perspective of the “have’s” and the “have not’s”. When a “have not” (a “sinner” from hell, depending on whatever the catch-all definition of that is from being a queer person or someone who actually committed a horrible act while alive) wants to be “redeemed” and become a “have” (live in Heaven), it seems to follow a similar path of those who are poor and want to become rich, or at least not as poor anymore so they’re not worried about basic survival. Even when a nepo baby like Charlie tries to do the right thing to use what power she has to help others out of the bad situations they’re in and better their lives, she’s laughed out of the room by most because she’s daring to go against the status quo and shake up the current systems in place. There can be no one on top of the pyramid (in Heaven) if majority of those are not at the bottom as the foundation (in Hell).
A lot of those in power in Heaven, like Adam, think they are morally superior to those in Hell just like a lot of those that are wealthy have a similar superiority complex when it comes to those that are less fortunate than them and think the rules of being a decent person don’t apply to them. Why would those individuals do anything to disrupt a system they are currently benefitting from? That’s why Charlie faces so much opposition, because being a good person and doing the right thing, regardless of your personal background or status in the hierarchy of things, unfortunately does not go with the flow of how the systems Heaven and Hell currently operate from what we know so far.
This world and a lot of its inhabitants seem to operate from a mindset of “for me to be more, you have to be less”. Charlie questioning that by trying to change things by helping people and giving them a leg up into Heaven ruffles the feathers of those in Heaven, like Adam, that clearly want the sinners and other inhabitants of Hell to “know their proper place”. If things were truly fair, a lot of sinners would be redeemed and earn a place in Heaven, or at least not face the threat of possible extermination every year, and even angels like Adam would be re-evaluated and condemned to Hell.
That unfairness, which is very similar to wealth inequality, and the resistance to righting that wrong is the very thing this show wants us to question. Why complicate things by standing in the way of someone genuinely wanting to better themselves and the situation they’re in? Because if they get more, people like Adam will think what they have in status will be less because there’s no way they would accept being on the same level as a sinner, redeemed or not.
Anyway, just my two cents and how I interpreted things, but it’s food for thought and some things to think about, especially going into the next episode. Love your reactions and hope you enjoy the rest of the show ❤ And if anyone took the time to read this wall of text, I appreciate it and hope you have a wonderful day 😁

You can only die certain ways while you're already dead. Otherwise people would happily choose oblivion over hell by killing themselves. It's not really spelled out in the series, with the closest being a throw away line in episode ..2? when we meet the V's about the star model getting killed and the shoot being over 'by the time she pulled herself back together'.
Like other takes on the creation story, Lucifer thought he was doing humanity a favor by giving them the gift of knowledge. Like the first episode said, he was cast into the pits of Hell so that he only got to see the evil his actions brought to the world as his punishment, and it worked. He became a depressed recluse instead of a charismatic leader who could unite Hell to war against Heaven.

Most of the sinners believe that they truly deserve to be in Hell. And the final proof of this is that they have ended up in Hell after dying. QED. That's why they laugh at Charlie's attempt to redeem them; they know in their heart that they are where they belong ()for good or bad reasons). You could call it an act of self-actualisation (especially as they take on inhuman forms that do seem related to their previous lives). It doesn't really matter. You don't need something to judge them and send them there, and in fact there is evidence in the pilot that this is the case. ["I'm alive! " for one.] Humans do tend to be prone to doubting their self worth. Which does explain why Adam easily made it into Heaven. If that dude ever reflected on anything he did in his life it was only to contemplate how great he was.

I mean the Biblical Lucifer is practically non-existent and he is totally nonexistent in the original Hebrew texts. He was a later Greco-Roman insertion as an allegory for a Babylonian king who oppressed the Israelites and was later misinterpreted by Early Christian editors and poets as another name for Satan or The Devil. Most modern Christians and theologians by the way now admit that even Biblically speaking those two characters are most likely not the same fallen angel.

About the part about Lucifer being "responsible" for the downfall of humanity, in the show, it is implied in the conversation between Lucifer and Charlie, just before the Loan Sharks show up, as well as in the intro in episode 1, is that what Lucifer did, at least in his eyes was using the apple to just give humanity free will, to free them to pursue their own ideas and desires, but that allegedly "released" humans to be horribke people, as he says himself.
But the next episodes touch a little more on that.

regarding nerdy's griping about why noone talks about their lives on earth and what they did to get sent t hell: they're in hell. They just know they're in hell, and thus what their lives were like before doesn't actually matter anymore to them, because as far as they're concerned that's it. They're stuck here. The majority of the sinners see this as an oppurtinity to stop holding back, to be as depraved and violent and psychotic and perveted as they want because it's hell and noone cares anymore. Why be a better person when you now you're in hell? And why think about what you had before, why even talk about it? THe majority of the cast have actually spent more time in hell than they did on earth (angel dust for example died in the 1930's) so why should they care anymore now?
This show is basically following the old phrase 'hell is other people', and part of that is the apathy of knowing you're in hell and thus you have been punished.

And in the original religion and mythology, they are not the same. Lucifer was used in Judah as a term for Babylonian and other foreign kings, who, in the opinion of the monotheistic Jews, were sinful idolaters, and before the name came into the Hebrew dialect, Lucifer was originally a character in Roman Mythology, and in general, the portrayal of him in the series as a good light-bearing dreamer coincides with the Roman one, with the addition of a version with a snake and a forbidden fruit, and Satan was never portrayed as an enemy of God for the time being, but on the contrary, was his servant, the one who, on his orders, corrupts people, and is the accuser at the Heavenly Court. So in the series, the separation of both these characters is really not something new, but very interesting. Showing one as a misunderstood chaotic neutral, and the other as an wrathful chaotic evil, and it remains to be seen what his specific position is in the Hellaverse franchise.

Angel gets a lot of joy from violence for violence sake and even if he is protecting someone he often takes it too far or chose before considering any no violent options.

The show started with the biblical information with a bit of a twist. Lucifer is a dreamer. He wanted to share free will with humanity because he could envision all the great things humans can do with it. The apple had consequences. Thus his fall from Heaven. He's still an angel fallen or not. He's still a curious dreamer just severely traumatized and depressed. Lilith is the real ruler of hell as she thrived when they fell together whereas Lucifer lost his will to dream. Hell is his prison while it's Home to Charlie and maybe even Lilith. He's depressed and separated from his wife. The only thing he has is Charlie and is scared to lose her too. So he keeps her the way they have been as he's unsure if she wants him around as she never reaches out to him and only reaches out to her when he has excuses when he really wants to connect with her. Lucifer tried to do good, failed, and given up while Charlie is like a younger Lucifer who can still see the good in Sinners.
Speaking of Redemption, Charlie spends the start of this episode freaking out over the hotel and why things aren't working. She doesn't know what she's doing wrong to redeem Angel and Pentious. Episode 6 should give SOME clarity on things.
S2 will give insight of why these characters are in hell. It's very...unfortunate that we only have 8 episodes as this series has literally 10+ years of lore we don't get to see. Just us long time fans can pick up from what we know, but leaves a lot of newbies/first time watchers with many unanswered questions.
Such as death. Sinners can kill other Sinners but it's not permanent. They "respawn" slow and painfully as it's apart of their enteral damnation. They only die permanently during exterminations. That's not stated in the show whatsoever and makes you question why they would even fear death with each other or if they could even die again.
This is all spoiler free. ^^; I realize it's a lot, but you have valid questions and opinions but missed some key info in the previous episodes. Which is bound to happen in a packed season like this.

Probably my biggest complaint about the show is that it's written assuming you've paid attention to all the meta info released by Vivsie explaining the lore. Which is just bad writing; a show should be able to stand on its own and not require the audience to perform hours of research to understand what the fuck is going on.
One of the best examples of this is the whole "dying in hell". There is literally NO explanation in the show about what happens when someone "dies" in hell, nor do they mention being "erased" when being killed by angelic steel.
I love this show to death, but they really dropped the ball on explaining some of the lore so people who don't follow Vivsie on all social media platforms know how this world works.

Will say this, the show is interested in Redemption, but season 1 does only lightly touch it… but we get some elements of what it takes to to be redeemed, but i think you will be pleasantly surprised.

The back stories to the main cast weren't important to the overall story much like del's back story in the green mile. I get that you want the "show" to show you this information but it won't, you have to do your own research with the songs found across UA-cam. These songs were small stories of the characters that we were given until the show finally came out 5 years later.

Which is a cool concept, if only they explained and/or showed that in the show early on. Which they didn't.

You guys should stop reacting to tv shows because u clearly dont pay attention the intro explains the premise of the entire fucking story
Lucifer didnt trick eve he gave it to eve because he was idealistic his dreams were then trashed by heaven he saw only the worst of humanity and slowly became a total shut in did you not watch the images of their song it shows a lot of his motivation
Also lucifer isnt a terrible dad u cant read between lines
(He only calls when hes bored or wants me to do something) then his reaction to chatlies call implys he actually wants to talk to her implying that he believes he would be a nuisance to charlie
Ps lucifer isnt a joke character

i mean that's too far. i think some of criticism they have is valid but yes they misinterpreted lucifer completely because of forgetting the intro of ep 1 since it is their least favorite episode. i think we should give them another chance to redeem themselves(lol it is somehow related to the show's theme) and maybe understand this series a little bit.

@@user-gm5of3vr1b they're over half in and all there current questions have been pretty much answered
The one in every video is about redemption and how they're gonna do that and charlie clearly doesn't really have a plan which implying she doesn't know and it's a pipe dream
2 in this they tons of questions about lucifer everything you need to know is in intro or this
1 lucifer was an idealistic dreamer wishing to gift humanity with free will and for that him and his new bride were thrown in hell
In this he was shut up in his room creating ducks because he's bored and depressed
2 According to charlie , he only calls when he's bored and wants her to do something , but when she called him , he is super excited to hear From her due to the fact that she never calls and hasn't in years He took it to mean that she just doesn't want to talk to him Or that she's busy He doesn't call because he thinks she's busy and doesn't want to bother her. So it does not have good relationship Her
      3 His wife left him
Although he's explained a lot about his personality, he's been bottling everything in to the point of practically insanity.
And in the 8 years since his divorce, his life is gone down a hill so pretty much for his entire time. In hell he's had to watch the people he gifted. Free will with which was wasted is and squander then his wife left and took his daughter with her, which is the only one bright spot. It's no wonder he's kind of a shut in. Though I don't know where they got childish from.

Dude, if meeting Lucifer didn't help you understand why hell is like it is and the shows structure, it's not a writing problem. It's a media literacy problem. Get over you hang up with a LITERAL depiction of biblical shit and pay attention to the characters. Or stop.
