    Here’s a comment to clarify:
    There are hellborn and sinners, who are both referred to as demons sometimes. Sinners are dead people who only reside in the pride ring of hell and Hellborn are species native to hell. Hazbin Hotel is broadly about sinners, but its sister show, Helluva Boss, is about the hellborn.
    Almost all the characters in Hazbin are sinners, including Alastor. He was a referred to as a mortal soul in the pilot. Sinners are immortal, unless killed by holy weapons. Otherwise, they just respawn. They can only live in the pride ring. The strongest sinners are overlords, who operate like mob bosses, taking possession of souls and territory.
    Hellborn are made up of multiple species with a hierarchy. The strongest are the royalty and the 7 deadly sins. Royals can only be killed by holy weapons and magic.

      Correct. Charlie is hellborn and is off-limits during the exterminations. Like Nerdy said, Adam says this in episode 1. The sinners do reform/respawn after being injured, but this is not stated explicitly and clearly in the show. In episode 2, Velvette hints at this when you see a cart with the body parts of one of her models that Valentino ripped apart. She says something to the effect of "he tore up my best model, and you know the show can't wait for her to pull herself back together", implying that yes, sinners can reform after being injured.

    A little correction: Husk ran off before Vaggie threw him off the roof in episode 3. The only ones that actually went to the War Zone were Angel, Sir Pentious and Nifty. Hence why we have the little moment where Pen thanks Angel for saving him and Husk just says something like "at least you took a beating like a champ" to the snake AFTER Angel is done doing a little summary of what happened down there. If wqs more for Pentious's benefit, but Husk never saw Angel fight, nor be truly vulnerable, until this point in the show, which is a big thing since they are mean to be the closest among the group, excluding Charlie ans Vaggie ofc.

    for what it’s worth, Alastor was definitely a human and can technically die, he’s just exceedingly powerful. He was a serial killer back in the day (1920s-30s) as part of his backstory, and the reason there’s so much deer theming around him (like his antlers - which are also like a radio antenna, sure - and the fact that he was eating a raw dead deer in ep 3) is because how he died in real life was that he was mistaken for being a deer and shot by a hunter while he was out in the swamp disposing of the body of one of his victims

    • @Kyoril
      @Kyoril 23 дні тому +6

      My own personal belief is that while alive, Alastor made a deal with a Voodoo Loa or Spirit to have immense power upon his demise from the mortal plane. That shadow we all see with Alastor *IS* that spirit. A totally separate entity, and the source of all his power. The more deals he makes. The stronger that spirit Alastor is leashed to becomes. Alastors ultimate goal is to be free of that spirit and join his Mother, who is in Heaven. He sees Charlie as the means to this end.

    The only person in this series so far that wasn't a person on Earth is Charlie who was born in hell. Overlords like Alastor were human but became so powerful in hell by getting other people to sell them their souls in exchange for favors of one kind or another. For demons and humans in hell, human souls are a source of power. Culling the number of souls in hell is also therefore a way to place a hardcap on how powerful hell itself can become, thus the exterminations. Charlie isn't immune to the Angels weapons, thats not what E1 said, episode 1 said that Lucifer made a deal that exempt hellborn demons like Charlie from the extermination so that Heaven wouldn't target them.

    You're both right and wrong about some stuff. Alastor is a person, a former human being, but there are hellborn demons in hell. The only named hellborn we've met for sure as of now is Charlie. Technically the eggs are "hellborn" but they're more created than born, they're like sentient robots. We've seen one non named hellborn in the episode 1 song: There was an imp, a low rank hellborn, talking about shoving barbwires in someone's holes. I'm sure we've met a few more in the background but as far as named characters go, it's only Charlie for sure right now.
    Overlords, the ones who owns millions of souls as Camilla said, are sinners. We might eventually learn that there is a surprise exception here and there but as far as we know they're all former humans. And Alastor most certainly isn't an exception, he's one of the ones we know for sure was a human.
    And hellborn demons can be killed by the exorcist's blade, they just aren't. That was the deal, Heaven said to Hell: "You let us kill sinners and in exchange we're not touching the hellborns" so there's nothing stopping exorcists from killing hellborn demons beside that deal. The main difference in how hellborns die vs sinners is that as long as they die to anything but an exorcist blade, sinners will come back to life so you can't put them down permanently easily while hellborn demons die for good when they're killed, although killing a high ranking hellborn is probably harder than kiling even a strong sinner like the overlords so it kind of balances out.
    Essentially, just assume that everyone beside Charlie or characters from Heaven is a sinner and a former human. I didn't really have issues with that during the show because they never gave us a reason to assume otherwise. The show's premise is about sinners, the city is one of sinners, we start the show with Charlie introducing them to us (in her first song while she roams in the city) and seeing them dead or injured on the street after an extermination, so everyone is a sinner. While that might not be necessarily true in the end, it's the base assumption about the show and that's why that part caused no confusion for me when I watched it (and I'm not someone who knew anything about the show before watching it, I didn't even watch the pilote until after I was done with season 1).
    The only thing I've noticed cause confusion in most people (me included at the time although I just put it aside because it's not important to the plot, just the setting) and should have been clarified in universe, is the fact that sinners don't die when they're killed (other than by exorcists angel). We know from the start they die when killed by the angel because the whole excuse is "reducing their numbers" (and preventing them to rebel, both goals which necessitates the sinners to actually die and not just disappear temporarily. The premise would make no sense otherwise so it's the natural assumption, most people don't have issues with that part). But we don't know why in a world that violent, sinners and Charlie only focus on angels in particular when they're shown killing each other a lot in Episode 1. And the answer is that they can't really kill each other permanently. Once again, that part is not important for the plot, the extermination still happens and killed 16% of the population so that's enough to justify the story, but it is important for the worldbuilding, but it would have benefited from being explained.

    Alastor was human; it's said in the pilot that he was more powerful than any mortal soul before him, which means he's a mortal soul. Also, it's Word of God that he lived in the 1920s and died in the early 30s, lived in New Orleans and was Creole... and a serial killer, because of course he was, lol.

  • @IceMetalPunk
    @IceMetalPunk 23 дні тому +3

    Clarification:
    "Demon" is a general term that refers to *anyone* from hell, whether they were born there or whether they're Sinners who used to be human. "Sinner" is the term for those who used to be human and died, while the rest of the demon types are all hell-born. All demons of any kind can be exterminated -- wiped from existence -- at the hands of an angelic weapon; hell-born demons are just politically exempt from being the targets of the exterminations, due to the angels' deal with Lucifer that Lute mentioned in episode 1. Other than by angelic weapons, Sinners can't die, but hell-born demons can; though it seems different ranks of demon have shorter or longer lifespans than each other. Charlie, for instance, being part angel, seems to have an extremely long lifespan, perhaps even an eternal one; while imps (one of the lowest classes of demons, which we see more of in Helluva Boss) seem to have a human-like lifespan.

    The only thing I have to add for the ending is Husk was there in episode 3 but he leaves and doesn't get involved with the fighting happening below. They all learn and start to trust each other but Husk still gets his boundaries pushed by Angel all the time. He doesn't take him seriously because of his fake attitude he sees clear as day just as he sees and pin points everyone else. Even shrugging off upsetting Angel to Charlie because of how he views Angel.

Alastor was a serial killer from the 1930's who was accidentally shot by a deer hunter, Angel was a mobster from the 1940's who overdosed, ect. Charlie is Hellborn. Hellborn are native to hell and they aren't immune to the Angelic weapons, but the Angels are allowed to target the Hellborn, including Charlie due to a deal with Lucifer. No, Adama didn't say Hellborn are IMMUNE to angelic weapons. He simply said that the angels aren't ALLOWED to kill hellborn demons. WHich is ENTIRELYE different.
    also no ALL the characters are demons, the difference is that SOME are sinners (humans who died and went to hell) and hellborn (demons who were born in hell). Sinners are immortal EXCEPT if they are killed by a angel's blade specifically, while some hellborn (but not all, only he upper class) are implied to also be immortal unless killed by a angel's weapon.
    I do agree that one flaw of the show is that they don't really...EXPOSIT that much on the worldbuilding stuff and its mostly up to inference and checking out behind the scenes shit so hopefully they improve on that later.
    Point is, Charlie can TOTALLY get killed by the angels shouldthe angels decided whatever deal they made with hell to exempt hellborn from the genocide isn't worth it.
    also, Charlie is the only hellborn of the main cast. Alastor, Angel, Nifty etc are all sinners who went to hell, its just some sinners such as Alastor have accrued incredible power via deals with othr sinners.

    Holy weapons destroy the soul. But when demons kill each other, they eventually regenerate or respawn or something. Velvet said it takes time, but what exactly that means is left pretty vague.
    No one is immune to holy weapons. Lute just said that Charlie’s father (Lucifer) negotiated with the angels and successfully got them to agree to spare the hellborn (I assume because they never lived on earth and thus did not necessarily deserve to be punished). So the angels spare the hellborn but hellborn are not immune to holy weapons.
    And Alastor is a sinner, not a hellborn. Vaggie’s emphasis on him being a demon in episode 1 was talking more about his evil nature and level of power. It didn’t mean he was hellborn.
    The “gym leaders” as you called them last episode are the strongest of the sinners, called overlords. They are the ones that own the most souls (like Val owns Angel’s soul and Husk implied that Alastor won his soul in a gamble - before which, Husk himself was an overlord who owned a lot of souls, (and then lost them gambling)).

    "Maybe this is where the X-men go after they die" weeeelll.... in earlier concepts there were gonna be superheroes on earth who would end up in the afterlife. (You can hear a reference to that in the pilot during inside every demon is a rainbow.)

    No one is immune to the angel weapons. The things is the extermination target only sinners, who can only be killed by those, like demons nobility, imps and hellhounds can be killed naturally. Alastor was an human, all Overlords were, they are just a more powerful sort of sinners.

    No Alastor is a Sinner. he is a human who died and went to hell. Yes, the show is very bad at explaining this and where each character falls in.

    Demon is a word used to basicly everyone who is in hell, but there are different groups: There are Hellborn, Fallen Angels and Sinners. Lucifer is a Fallen Angel, Charlie is a hellborn, Husk, Angel Dust, Nifty, Alastor, Sir Pentious, ALL the Overlords and almost every other character in this show is a Sinner (It isn't clear to me what the eggboys are...).
    Besides Charlie, I THINK the only Hellborn in this show are Razzle and Dazzle (Charlie's Puppy Goat Demons...).

      has Viv confirmed this SINCE the Pilot? this could've always changed when Amazon got a hold of the script, otherwise how does a Sinner have the ability to enslave other Sinners?
