I think as a lot of gay movies come out to be very depressing, which is understandable and artistic. However it does get old. But seeing a movie, basically like any other teen romance movie, is really refreshing. It makes the lgbt community seem normal, not dramatic, depressed or ravers. And not like attention seekers. Like the majority of us, especially now, is living a normal like, having a specific future people already predicted for them, and we're just finding our way. So it's nice having a light hearted movie, that anyone could somehow relate to. It's what we truly want in the community. To be normalised
As far as the whole “my life is just like yours,” he’s not talking to the audience, he’s speaking to Blue in an email. Since Blue says he has a pretty great life and they live in the same community and go to the same school, Simon would assume they are alike.
Samwise the Brave incorrect. You hear it as a voice over at the beginning but it is later revealed that it is actually what he is writing in his email response to Blue.
Bro unless you are open about your sexuality with people who are not strangers on the internet, I would suggest you not use your real name when commenting on UA-cam. The reason is because any asshole can easily look you up on Facebook, make screen shots of this and send it to your family and friends. You will be in the same boat as Simon. I am not an asshole and I am not going to do that to you, but just be careful in case someone who is an asshole sees it.
Part of the reason why this film is so good is because the book is so good. You talked about it being authentic and not rushing things, and not feelings out for Simon; that’s all the book, the book is very authentic and portrays Simon and his struggles in such a well balanced way and I’m happy that they transferred book to screen so smoothly.
Dont know if anyone gives a damn but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can stream pretty much all of the new series on instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my gf for the last months :)
Lovely Rage I don’t think controversy has anything to do with it. I mean he reviewed Call me by your name. Also controversial. But I do want to know why he hasn’t reviewed Tonya
Thank you for this review. I am gay and some situations in this movie felt so real I was surprised or even overwhelmed by the old emotions coming back. I felt like I was 17 again (ha ha). And, of course, I was crying like a baby. I am so happy that this film exists (finally a good gay-themed movie with a huge budget!!!). I hope it will not bomb at the box office. We need more of these movies. Greetings from Germany.
CMBYN has a 3.5 million budget which is not much compared to The Fault in our Stars e.g. (12 million). The numbers for Love, Simon are not out yet, but I would say it is about 10-12 million. Don't get me wrong, I love both. But CMBYN got big by time (well deserved) while "Love, Simon" already starts big (or is at least trying to).
How to make a successful film: Make it a gay love story. •Brokeback Mountain •Moonlight •Call Me by Your Name •Blue is the Warmest Color •Carol Etc. (I adore all of these films, no hate here lol)
I think the acting is really good in Love, Simon and it resonates with younger people who are not exposed to the bitterness of life yet and mature people who have overcome their own bitterness and hardship. Everyone in between miiiight not be able to relate. Case in point, the guy above me. It's not an amazing movie, but Simon's emotions were perfectly portrayed, and I love it for that aspect alone.
THANK YOI CHRIS for the last part. Even though I think this is a great movie, I was also annoyed how casual "outing" someone without their consent was taken in this movie. The author, a straight woman, apologised for that I think because it's something that's actually really serious and possibly dangerous so I got annoyed how they kinda just brushed those actions off. Good movie though
I really liked both the book and the movie and I think it's one of those rare cases where the movie was a fantastic adaptation. I cannot wait to see this movie again, and I can't recommend it enough.
No, the best reviewers on YT are Red Letter Media and Ralph The Movie Maker, Chris is good, but he can be far too lenient sometimes and doesn’t see obvious flaws sometimes.
I just watched this film and it is one of the first romcoms that I actually cared about the characters in such a long time. I'm not gay, but like Chris says, you can really emphasize with Simon and it feel relevant with being preachy.
This movie was my favorite movie so far. I just watched it and it represents us LGBTQ community with the respect we need. I was closeted for so long, then I finally came out to my parents, and they accepted me. Then, I watched this movie, and it makes me want to come out to a few more people now. This movie said that yes, you will get bullied but it will get better and you will find who you love. Great movie for me 10/10.😀😀🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
I like how one of your major issues was the antagonist never getting any sort of justice or spotlight for his actions, yet just that situation is all too prevalent in our society towards gay people.
4:47 I love that you addressed the richness-thing! I also thought about that, too, after I watched the movie, why seemingly all (American) movies are about rich people and rarely featuring people with average wealth. Because of this I just assumed for a long time that most Americans are rich like that (I'm from Germany btw)
Thank you for reviewing this, really. I wasn't sure if this one would go under the radar, but I hope that your fans will see it because you gave it a good review. I was really looking forwards to this since I heard about it ages ago. I hate teen movies, they are stupid and predictable, but I am all for a mainstream gay movie. It is simply... There. He isn't flamboyant or obvious, but he is just a regular guy that likes guys, I sincerely hope that this does better. Dear straight people that will bitch about this movie;; You have thousands of shitty teen romances, go watch those. The LGBTQ+ community has very very few.
Fuck that! Our community has some fucking phenomenal films, Brokeback, The Birdcage, Blue is the Warmest Color...Ok, well maybe you have a point, we only have 4. WAIT! 5, Rent.
Some Crazed Nerd Sadly that movie was not as mainstream, few people have even heard about it let alone watched it. I never saw any advertising for it, I only heard it about becausw Chris reviewed it. I saw the trailer for Love, Simon when I saw some movie on theaters in december and on youtube.
So I know this is a super old movie, but it has a similar feel and i saw you haven't reviewed it... But could you review Juno? Love this movie and could rewatch it a hundred times over
I saw Robinson in ‘Being Charlie’ last week and he’s really developed as an actor since his forgettable role in ‘Jurassic World’. You’ve convinced me to see this one Chris.
This is the first movie in a long time that made me cry, not sad cry, but happy cry. And I agree the antagonist didn’t get the right amount of attention but that’s probably due to the fact that in the book his character is southern and they probably didn’t want to a fend anyone due to the actions of his character. They took out a lot from the book but it still felt the same and that is very hard to do. Overall I think this is one of my all time favorite movies. Plus, it helps that beebo got some love.
I saw this movie last night. I had a good time with it. Some of it was typical high school movie stuff, but I enjoyed it overall. My biggest complain is that I thought the beginning of the 3rd act was kind of forced and/or cheesy, but I understand the need for it narratively. Would still recommend people go see it. It's a fun time.
NerdfighterPilot honestly all I wanna see is a typical high school movie. It'd be nice to see a gay character be the protagonist of a completely regular non-tragic high school movie
Ahhh I’m so glad you enjoyed it!! I often check out your reviews before I see a movie, and sometimes it can help me realise that I don’t need to pay £12 to see it at the cinema, that I should just wait or something, but this has me knowing I need to go now! Thanks as always, Chris :)
I loved that this was somewhat of a general formula teen romance. It's great to see a more mainstream approach, that can make it more accessible to a wider audience
Last year, the only gay movie that was talk about was Call me by your name. How many movies were about straight characters? Like 98% probably. People complain like they make 100 gay movies a year or something. Remember that one transsexual movie about the first transsexual woman like two years ago or the one gay movie with Julianne Moor? Those movies were forgotten and didn't win nor did they get any nominations in the Oscars. If it was mostly gay movies coming out and winning all the awards and nominations, then I would agree that it is way to much. You know what is actually overated and too much? Comic book movies.
renz hammenga Moonlight does not disapproves my point. Specially since the heart of the film is not about being gay. The heart is the main characters and what he's been through. His journey. Specially his interactions and life with his mother and her drug addiction. A single man is also a fantastic film. But the heart of film is not that the character is gay, but the death of a lover. Theses movies can be counted by using fingers. Specially the ones that people remember or are talked about.
We are complaining because the gay community is being shoved done our throats every day in social media. There’s obviously an agenda so social engineer our society. It’s annoying to see a group to be put on a peddle stool over more important issues. Idk what you talking about, the gay community is well supported.
zymosan123 how do you think gay people feel when every movie, book, and couple they grew up around was straight? This isn’t about YOU seeing it, it’s about THEM seeing it, and knowing that people like them can find love the same way straight people can. There’s no agenda, everybody is just used to always seeing heterosexual couples so you think that this is an overwhelming number of posts about being gay, but newsflash, they’ve been gay the whole time and only now have felt safe about sharing that, so let them have the spotlight for a year or two. Everyone else has had it for centuries.
Eliza G So what if the majority of movies are about straight people? The majority of people are straight so why wouldn’t you appeal to the biggest market.
I agree with everything you’re saying here. Except I have one more HUGE problem with this film. (Spoilers) The ending. OH MY GOD THE ENDING. It ruined this whole movie for me. The development of simon and and blues love for the whole movie was really raw, relatable, and quite beautiful. As soon as the school found out about it the whole thing switched. The way the girls at the school acted around them was gross and fetishizing. I really didn’t like it. The straight girls squealing at them kissing and taking pictures of them just made me really uncomfortable.
Frank Cauldhame I've never even read the book and i dont plan to, all i know is that the main character is a huge fan of Elliott Smith. Apparently the movie is good so i really hope his music is in the movie. More people need to know about him
I just wanna say before even watching the review, you are by far my favorite youtuber and i commend you for your work on this platform. I hope that your channel the same way our love and dedication to film does and i hope you don’t ever stop making this content. Keep it up Chris, you’re awesome!!
I'm really glad people seem to be enjoying this movie, as I really liked the book. It's not a masterpiece, but it captures being a teen extremely well. I'm a little curious as to changes made, because the plot seems to be a bit different than the book from what I've seen. Also, the situation with Martin, the antagonist, was treated quite appropriately in the book, so I hope they don't ruin it completely here.
+Johan Garcia I ask because when he mentioned it in his Shin Godzilla review he didn't specify, and I've never heard him comment on it. Kill la Kill is amazing :)
CypressJDX oh, okay. Never really specified which series that he wanted to ask Chris, but okay. But knowing Chris, I'm pretty sure he's watched it (with him being a "completion-ist" and all)
The book handles the situation with so called antagonist by Simon just ignoring him in the end. In a way, it works in the book. I'm not sure if it's similarly portrayed in the movie, because I won't see it until June, but I hope the movie does the book justice. Also, I'm so glad you liked it, I'm even more excited about it now because I usually agree with your ratings. :)
Chris I had someone do something so much worse when I came out. He never made it right. This story felt so close to home. Nice Review. Glad you liked it.
Hey Chris so far out of the tens and thousands of film critics online you’re my favorite one. I have no idea why but you just don’t get me triggered LOL. I usually watch or read reviews online after I watch the film and I get triggered usually, idk maybe cause they have bad point of views? Oh well you’re pretty damn good at this so keep it up! Sorry if my comment made no sense
I came out as a lesbian just last year. And yesterday me and my mom went to see love, Simon. It hit so close to home for me, especially the conversation between the mom and Simon near the end of the movie. Coming out is scary. But now that I'm out I feel like I can't really breath for the first time in a really long time. Love, Simon is an important movie to me
Even with the good review by Chris and the optimistic feeling I had while watching the trailer, hearing that it's made by Greg Berlanti kinda makes me not want to see it anymore
I loved this movie! I went to an advanced screening with the author, director, and part of the cast. You could really tell that there was a lot of heart and effort put into this film and it really shows. One of my favorite films of the year so far.
Unfortunetly while waiting in the theater for Phantom Thread this was shown in the previews and it was spoiler chaos. I've never seen any trailer shitting that much at the audience by telling the entire story. It makes me purposely want to not go seeing it in the theater and just stream it in few months.
I'm reading the book of this right now, and I love it so far! Thank you for reviewing this movie, I hope it gets a lot of attention! My school's Gay-Straight Alliance may see it for a field trip.
What bugs me is that they changed the title from the original novel, and I'm pretty sure the studio did this so that dumb audiences wouldn't overreact to a title like, "Simon Vs. The Homo-Sapiens Agenda".
lI just totally loved 'the killing of the sacred deer'. One of the best movies with shocking moments & so many underlying themes. I wish someone can explain the themes , there were so many. It was the wow movie. Chris lots of love from India, we love you & request you to do a in depth Analysis for the killing of the sacred deer.
This film was so boring and cringe inducing at the same time. None of the people acted like real people, more like people in a Disneyfied world. Made it hard to get through.
I do a thing now where immediately after I've watched a movie, old or new, I go to your channel to see if you've reviewed it. I really enjoy hearing your views and analyses.
Heterosexuality is the natural way dumbass. God put men and women on Earth to get together and reproduce. I'm no doctor, but I don't think it's possible for a guy and another dude to make a baby.
Saw a preview of this, I absolutely adored it. It’s going to help a lot of people, I think. I wish I had this movie growing up, quite frankly. It’s done very well.
So it's nice having a light hearted movie, that anyone could somehow relate to. It's what we truly want in the community. To be normalised
Shelby V yes id take a normal high school romance movie over another tragic movie with a bad case of dead lesbian syndrome
Shelby V Agreed!!!
Agreeeeee
Yes, this is why this movie is so novel. Most gay teen movies are depressing as hell (e.g., Edge of Seventeen and Prayers for Bobby).
As a person living in a homophobic country, movies with happy gays give me hope.
Samwise the Brave I’m cool a lot of people just seem to be missing that part.
Dots are fucking amazing, so...I can’t blame you there.
Samwise the Brave now I want dots. Copious amounts of dots. They’re so cold and delicious 🤤
Did somebody say Dots??!!
Darrien Harris dotssssss
I was a extra in love Simon and I was in a scene that was used in this video! So does that mean I was in a Chris Stuckmann video? 🤔🤔
Jacob Evans who were you
capt_toad7890 i was the kid sitting a on the left out of focus when the two dudes were making fun of simon at lunch
Jacob Evans I cant find it. Can you give me the timestamp?
As a gay teen, I really relate to this film. I’m SO happy that we’re getting a mainstream gay teen film. Let alone one this well written and made.
Bro unless you are open about your sexuality with people who are not strangers on the internet, I would suggest you not use your real name when commenting on UA-cam. GAYYYYYYYYY
Keep fighting the good fight my friend
Ethan Winograd im not gay and i also relate to this movie so you are not special
@@Kpopforlife1995 and? congratulations?? let this dude live his life?? stfu
So should I take my totally Christian family who are all straight people to watch this movie
All the more reason to take them
I’ll do it if you do
Religion sees people as the enemy. God sees sin as the enemy. See the difference?
Yup
Do it! Also film the reaction I will watch it!
Part of the reason why this film is so good is because the book is so good. I’ll have to check it out
not tryna flex, but my cousin is keiynan lonsdale
It looks good. I might check it out.
Dont know if anyone gives a damn but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can stream pretty much all of the new series on instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my gf for the last months :)
@Finnley London Yup, I've been watching on instaflixxer for years myself =)
Still wondering why Chris hasn't reviewed I, Tonya. It's past the Oscars now!
Hey! even HE can't review every single movie out there!
Eric Fasold yeah but I, Tonya is more important than half the movies he reviews
So many movies so little time
xxrachluvsjonas Probably too controversial.
Don’t worry dude, liberal agenda gonna be pushing for a lot of these movies. You’re in good hands.
zymosan123 You call it "liberal agenda", I call it the world finally coming to its senses.
Now I'm gonna watch this 😎 and probably remember this comment 🤗🤗
Nico Cicalone Wart mal der Film läuft schon in deutschen Kinos?
Happy to see this movie is getting so much good feedback. Can't wait to see it!

Water Hazard UA-cam needs to start banning like-botting losers.
The book was really good
The book's fantastic!
Daniel Findura Agreed, But I think I actually preferred the movie, which I don’t say often Lmao
Willow S I'm gonna read the book because I loved the movie so much. Is it worth it?
Yishai Thau it is worth it
I’m almost finished the book and it’s wonderful! The movie is amazing too!
This review feels more significant in light of Chris’s more recent videos...! Good review, good film.
The scene where Simon is talking to his mom after coming out has never failed to make me cry. This movie is so important to so many people!
I was looking forward for it already now after this review I can't wait for it.
MAGA man being a homophobic....shocker!!..
MAGA MAN 😘sending all my gay love your way
How to make a successful film:
Make it a gay love story.
•Brokeback Mountain
•Moonlight
•Call Me by Your Name
•Blue is the Warmest Color
•Carol
Etc. (I adore all of these films, no hate here lol)
There are some shitty gay love stories too, they just don't get much buzz.
I'm gay and I found the movie mediocre at best, and so fucking cheesy I could puke. Also there is a long list of things that are just wrong.
Moonlight is boring as shit
Hey Chris, do us a favor and review Mullholland Drive.
Ever watched
1)Southern Comfort
2)Over the Edge
Romeo Strongcock When did he say he didn't like it?
Romeo Strongcock Shouldn't make presumptions
Romeo Strongcock It's closed-minded to have such a view
winston smith I've watched Southern Comfort, it was so sad.
Good movie though

the only reason i don’t want to watch this movie is because i just see her as hannah baker slitting her wrists in the bathtub. :)
I really liked both the book and the movie and I think it's one of those rare cases where the movie was a fantastic adaptation. I cannot wait to see this movie again, and I can't recommend it enough.

For the first time I can say I saw this movie before you several weeks ago and I agree it is amazing 💕
Enjoyed your review as usual!

renz hammenga Moonlight does not disapproves my point.
(Spoilers)
The ending.
I just want to know...is Elliott Smith music played in the movie?
Frank Cauldhame I've never even read the book and i dont plan to, all i know is that the main character is a huge fan of Elliott Smith. Apparently the movie is good so i really hope his music is in the movie. More people need to know about him
I don't remember, but I know he was a fan of Panic! at the Disco because he found Brendon Urie really hot.
NerdfighterPilot In the movie or the book?
In the movie
NerdfighterPilot Thats a shame, according to other people Elliott Smith is pretty important in the book
I just wanna say before even watching the review, you are by far my favorite youtuber and i commend you for your work on this platform. I hope that your channel the same way our love and dedication to film does and i hope you don’t ever stop making this content. Keep it up Chris, you’re awesome!!

Review Game Night
"Love, Simon, Coming Out 2018" - Anybody else chuckled when he saw the poster when Chris gave his grade? I did. Not proud.
Another reminder: please review I Tonya 😩 I will be able to die happy if you do
I'm really glad people seem to be enjoying this movie, as I really liked the book.
Chris, have you seen Evangelion (anime)?
+Johan Garcia I ask because when he mentioned it in his Shin Godzilla review he didn't specify, and I've never heard him comment on it.
Kill la Kill is amazing :)
I would love to see him review Eva. Be nice to see his interpretation.
Yeah, I think he's seen it because in his anime collection video, he had the blurays.
Kelly Duong Those were the Rebuild films not the original series. Anyone can see the Rebuild series having not seen the original.
Idubbz the movie
Really glad you saw and reviewed this movie. It is really important that this is getting a mainstream push and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Chris review “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood”.
Chris I had someone do something so much worse when I came out. He never made it right. This story felt so close to home. Nice Review. Glad you liked it.
Simon says
Sorry , I had to
Hey Chris so far out of the tens and thousands of film critics online you’re my favorite one. I have no idea why but you just don’t get me triggered LOL. I usually watch or read reviews online after I watch the film and I get triggered usually, idk maybe cause they have bad point of views? Oh well you’re pretty damn good at this so keep it up! Sorry if my comment made no sense
I'd love for you to do a review of Mute (2018), I found it to be a mixed bag, but my so far favourite performance by Paul Rudd as Cactus Bill.
Love to hear this from you, Chris! I’m even more excited for this movie now!
Can you do thoroughbreds review
I came out as a lesbian just last year. And yesterday me and my mom went to see love, Simon. It hit so close to home for me, especially the conversation between the mom and Simon near the end of the movie. Coming out is scary. But now that I'm out I feel like I can't really breath for the first time in a really long time. Love, Simon is an important movie to me
you never reviewed Lion and I never forgave you for that
CHRISSSS!!! Review "Christine" it's on Netflix and it's has just become one of my favorite movies. It's so underrated
Well writen from Greg Berlanti?
Haven't heard that since Season 5 from Arrow...
Even with the good review by Chris and the optimistic feeling I had while watching the trailer, hearing that it's made by Greg Berlanti kinda makes me not want to see it anymore
Runner High you should still see it
It was amazing tho, his direction was praised by critics and the acting was so amazing and the movie was so outst
Runner High *outstanding and the theatre was full of people crying. And it got 92% on rotten tomatoes
Runner High plus it had the writers from “this is us” which had mass critical praise for the writing. Def go see it lol
Chris, your reviews are amazing. I love watching your videos and keep making them!
Notification Squad Assemble!

Notification squad Disassemble ! 👹
TheTrophyMunchers never
I loved this movie! I went to an advanced screening with the author, director, and part of the cast. You could really tell that there was a lot of heart and effort put into this film and it really shows. One of my favorite films of the year so far.
Game night review please your slacking Chris
Has to mention the security guard. And his little dog, too.
^dont be like that man
Unfortunetly while waiting in the theater for Phantom Thread this was shown in the previews and it was spoiler chaos. I've never seen any trailer shitting that much at the audience by telling the entire story. It makes me purposely want to not go seeing it in the theater and just stream it in few months.
Didn't expect this review so early
This film was amazingly well written! The feels and everything :D
Can you review the original The Day The Earth Stood Still.
I'm reading the book of this right now, and I love it so far! Thank you for reviewing this movie, I hope it gets a lot of attention! My school's Gay-Straight Alliance may see it for a field trip.
Please do a twin peaks review man!!!!!!!
2 Chris Stuckmann Videos In One Day THIS DAY IS AWESOME
I HAVE BEEN ASKING YOU TO REVIEW *I TONYA* FOR MONTHS NOW!!!!! 💔
I'm hoping you do a review of Thoroughbreds. I've been interested in this movie for a while since it's Anton Yelchin's final role.
What bugs me is that they changed the title from the original novel, and I'm pretty sure the studio did this so that dumb audiences wouldn't overreact to a title like, "Simon Vs. The Homo-Sapiens Agenda".
James Lawner I like the title change... “Love, Simon” is simple and makes more sense in the context of the story
lI just totally loved 'the killing of the sacred deer'. One of the best movies with shocking moments & so many underlying themes. I wish someone can explain the themes , there were so many. It was the wow movie.
Chris lots of love from India, we love you & request you to do a in depth Analysis for the killing of the sacred deer.
Gonna reread it this weekend so I’m ready for next week ahhh
What camera do you use, Chris? Really like your composition and depth of field.
Ma boi
Chris
Just saw it. It was amazing. Funny, heartbreaking and so freaking relatable and universal in its message. A new teen coming of age classic imo.
"HA! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!"
Could you review all the Wes Anderson movies you haven't reviewed before Isle Of Dogs, Chris?
Hey daddy
I read the book and I can’t wait for the movie!
This movie looks like another way for Hollywood to monetize homosexuality.
Why not when they've been monetizing heterosexuality for decades?
Radim Kašník not in the same way.
Archn Scythe how is it different?
Heterosexuality is the natural way dumbass. God put men and women on Earth to get together and reproduce. I'm no doctor, but I don't think it's possible for a guy and another dude to make a baby.
Yeah it's not possible. Thanks for the groundbreaking info! Don't know how it's relevant in this discussion though.
Saw a preview of this, I absolutely adored it. It’s going to help a lot of people, I think. I wish I had this movie growing up, quite frankly. It’s done very well.
