    Excellent video! One more tip that helped me: find a common thread in all the jobs you've had (especially if you've hopped around or worked in various industries or roles). For me, I always liked being able to help people, so I make that a focal point when I look for new opportunities.

    I always used to think industry - company- role is the right order. But after getting the role in the industry and company I wanted to, I realized that what is more important than industry is the company and the role because the industry alone cannot make you happy . On contrary I happened to be in a company for an industry I didn’t think of but I enjoyed my time there much more than in the industry I always wanted to be so the company actually made me enjoy the industry

    Nice volume balance with the music and your pleasant voice. Content is good too. ;-) Informational interviews are truly the best! These kinds of things should be done before even considering college! If anything, ELIMINATING jobs is the best gift from that exercise!

      Before college...that is truly the best practice. I switched my major several times. Would have been best to consider all the options before jumping into a university.

    Hi Madeline! I have a background in Psychology (and education) too! I graduated earlier this year from my master and am considering about recruiting and L&D. Your video is really inspiring! Though it will take a lot of time and effort to do a proper career search, I do believe it's necessary. But sometimes the anxiety about finding a job will make me want to just apply and grab whatever I can get. So thanks for reminding me of the importance of doing the research!!

      Congrats on graduating, and recruiting and L&D are very rewarding careers! I have felt this way too - even when I know exactly what I'm aiming for in my next step, the uncertainty of the whole process makes me go for roles I wasn't planning on. I've interviewed for roles I didn't quite want before and it is the BEST interview practice. Just don't get swept up and accept the job that you didn't really want. :) Best of luck!

    This was an excellent video! I used your tip and reversed my job search method based on the backwards triangle lol That was end of January so I'm feeling more focused and less overwhelmed (because I used to apply for tons of similar jobs in just about any industry)

    Going these types help me out. I desperately need out of the career I've landed in, but don't know where to go next. I definitely took the hitchhiking method you mentioned

  • @Gatuxos123
    @Gatuxos123 Рік тому

    I worked on a lot of different positions because I was hitchhiking and took so many years for me to understand we were born to work and having at least a job that fulfill your dreams or passion, or help to get there, or even is the "easiest" so you "never really work" is the best thing we can do in terms of working for another people/company. A different path would be an entrepreneur, which is the one I'm going to try if I don't fit on the career I'm trying to get into. So, I'm struggling in find the things I love, I don't know exactly what I love, I don't know how to find things that could possily fit on things that I love and even worst things that I'm the best at. When I was teenager I used to play a lot of games online and my passion was playing, I had curiosity and discovered programming world but never went to this direction (due to lack of knowledge). Now, as 26 years old, did a technical degree and I'm trying to find my spot on the industry, but it's being though. Tech industry asks for experience, but to get experience you need a job, so it's paradoxical... Please, anyone give me some advice...

    What if you love so many things and then you figure out which one is the most loved thing at a specific time in your life… then you begin on that track and you find it takes the joy out of it to focus on just that one thing! Then you need to start again. Over and over and over you try the one thing at that time in life that seems to work the best.. and still having it eventually fail. Starting over makes you feel like you don’t have much traction in life either. This can be super frustrating to mature and then grow your jack of all trades and not have any one expertise. Also, it doesn’t help when people say omg you are so talented abd brilliant in so many areas.. you can do literally anything!!! That’s nice but it would feel good to feel successful instead of underdeveloped in all areas and also not be able to fall in love with one thing permanently. Hope this makes sense but being a perpetual explorer and feeling like I’ve lived many lifetimes on one life already, makes this task even more difficult. It’s almost as though exploration is the one thing… but that is not a job career is it?

    Hi Madeline!
    I find it difficult to focus on one specific industry as with a broad business background I can literally work wherever I want to. Any tips on finding the right industry/company? I am considering rather working in international institutions but am still on my way to find an answer to this question... :).
    Thank you a lot in advance!

      Totally, that is a tough situation that many people face. Sounds like you'll want to get creative with generating your own work locally. Do you want to share what your career/field focus is? Because every career presents unique opportunities and obstacles.

      Self Made Millennial I have three degrees - one in museum studies, one in medieval studies and the third is a business degree with a specialty in non profits and the arts. My field is heritage and non profits but finding a career in these fields is nigh impossible right now. My secondary specialty based on experience is customer service. Here's my LinkedIn profile:
