While nowadays all brands that develop and produce parts for the automotive industry take advantage of technological advances to create testing tools, decades ago the methods for determining if something really worked were somewhat more rudimentary, to say the least. An example of this was the mobile prototypes developed by the French brand Michelin, which, while their goal was to conduct tests on tires intended for heavy-duty transport work, managed to become true iconic pieces in the history of the automotive industry.

When you want to make reliable power, a 350 will not let you down.
Mine isn't reliable, but parts are cheap
Chev had 40 years to get it right
meh
Thanks for the cool slice of history 👍
At first I thought it was a car from the original Thunderbirds series that someone made for real. 😅
NOW for high speed tire testing Michelin just need to get up with some of the out western bull haulers with their 600+ horsepower rigs that run over 100 m.p.h all night and maybe all day long. They're out there!
A 9 ton vehicle ..that's really heavy, but looks cool.
Cool looking car thing
Michelin is really the best trucks tyres brand. You can see this two vehicles in Clermont Ferrand at the Michelin Museum.
Look the screen and the roof of the WR 8 Willéme, they come from the DS too.
It looks like one of my son's Lego creations. Lot of wheels and motors.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing
Interesting 🍻
Nice.
2:03 I didn't know that the crocodile hunter also was a tire tester
It it only his brother.
PLR is the abbreviation of Poids Lourd Rapide, or Fast Truck.
I have known about this Citroen DS what was the purpose of this Citroen bur now l know it was to test truck tyres thanks for this video
Interesting car, no doubt, but why not make some kind of dyno system that tests tyres?
so, this is the correct way to pronounce michelin?
I always thought it was to be pronounced in a different way. glad I learned something.
Nine tonnes to emulate 25% ov average four wheeler truck, probably.x
A interesting vehicle. But talking about fuel efficiency - 1 litre per km is about twice as much as a Leopard 2 tank needs.
Someone had made one of the centipedes in centerville Ohio in the 1970's and 1980's that would appear at car shows in ohio .. i think Rick prices body shop owed it at one time.
I wonder how many people thought about what you could do with that car if you vanlife converted it. I know i did especially as you could get a car camper based on the Citroen safari.
Cool project, although I don't understand why truck tires are tested for high speed.
Because safety.
For safety, to proof its' capability above & beyond
😮😯😲😍🤩💖👍‼️
Why the computer voice?
REAL VOICE
@@bellytripper-nh8ox doesn't sound natural to me
@@jessewoody5772 yes, it does
@@bellytripper-nh8ox lmao, how do you know what it sounds like to me?
I'm too early for my own good.
Front: DS, side: locomotive rear: trabant
Trotzdem vielen Dank.
¿Qué pasa con el sonido?
