Thank you for doing the bottoms! I hate when I see furniture flippers not do the bottoms of pieces or the backs. Especially when these pieces are being sold for upwards of $500, I feel like a fully finished piece of furniture just feels so much more refined!
It's also gross. That's usually the dirtiest part of the piece, and if there were odors in the home, they will stay in the piece. Ew. At the very least, a single coat of primer is needed but paint completely finishes the job.
I started flipping furniture last week. Sometimes ppl dont do the back or underside because they weren't done in the first place. Ppl don't get the hours that are put into refining some peices. You dont just sand and paint. You take all hardware off clean everything a few times. Sad and prime and paint then sand then paint and seal it. Then decoupage and seal then seal again. Paint the hardware or buy new. The paints and supplies add up. Let alone the several hours they put into them. I purchased a desk for 40.00. It took about 8 hours just to take off all hardware and clean every nook and crannies. Sand it and fix any imperfections. Then the prime and a few coats of paint. Lined the drawers and did dixibelle furniture transfers. Cleaned the pull handles and bought the perfect color of paint for them. I put 4 days into that peice and about 60.00 into it. I didnt do the back because it was made to go against the wall. So i put about 16 hours into it and spent 100 total. Needed new legs too. I listed it for 300.00. So id make 12.00 per hour if it sells. Its oak and real nice. I get lowball offers on fb market for 150. I dont do all that work for 50 dollars. Ill burn it in my backyard firepit before i give it away like that.
You are so right.
I love your work! I find it truly beautiful and heartwarming that you no longer sell, and give back to your community. Such an amazing woman ❤️
Seeing some "cheap" laminate pieces get a makeover warms my heart. So many people are so snobbish about the "real wood" and scoff at laminate - when these piece usually have so much use in them once the outside gets refreshed:)
It's true that the piece didn't need the wood strip details but adding them made it even more beautiful.
Oh my!! I am in love with that blue and wood tone combo! The style transformation is amazing. 😍 A little tip for particle board screw hole repair (especially when moving isn't an option) - use a tiny brush and coat the inside of hole with wood glue, dip wood toothpicks into wood glue and insert into hole until it is filled snugly but not too tightly. Snip toothpicks off even with the surface and let glue dry at least 12 hours, 24 is preferable. Drill a small pilot hole before reinstalling screws. A sawdust and wood glue paste mixture works even better. Again, I LOVE this piece. I haven't watched ALL your videos, but I've watched a LOT and I think this has been my favorite transformation.
Thanks for the tip on the screw hole repair! I will definitely be using this 🎉
Thanks!!! Pro tip!
Katie, you said the magic word, “beautiful.” That would convince me to look at an ugly duckling and picture a swan. ❤
You have all the woodworking equipment to make your re-purposed furniture! Lucky girl. Beautiful job on this piece.
I eagerly wait for my Saturday morning show!!!
Love this! Was thinking of replacing my dingy laminated particle board en suite vanity but not now!. With a good sanding, paint inside and out, new legs and top...I'll have a beautiful vanity at a fraction of the cost of a new one plus keep it out of the landfill. Thank you!
You are very articulate and your instructions were very clear and concise. I have learned a lot from your great refinishing tips. Your furniture transformations are always lovely and completely finished. You never cut corners and take care of every little detail.
You’re one of the best.
BTW, the easiest way to sand those legs is to chuck it up in your drill and just spin it in your hand with the sandpaper or the medium of your choice. It’s just as fast as if it were in a lathe.
Thank for the leg clamping tip.
That is such a good tip, thank you!! I have so many legs I need to sand eventually.
That was quite an upgrade.
Beautiful transformation. The new owner of this piece could actually add a stick-up light inside both sides of the cabinet, and I think that’d kick the transformation up another notch.
Wow, it turned out beautifully!
Wow. What an awesome job you did on this piece!!
Your attention to detail is second to none. Yet another beautiful transformation.
Another winner.
Thanks! I going to keep this one, I got passed down dresser, I was going to dump it, I going to paint it 🤗
Thank you. I have passed up some laminate furniture thinking it couldn’t look good. I have family going to college soon and needing basic furniture. This gives me more options 👍
You really have a great imagination. I would never think up such great designs.
I love your tutorials so much! And quite true how particle board pieces are 'hard sells' at thrift stores. Your MCM vibe refurb really turned out beautifully, :)
Please don’t ever stop sharing your knowledge and eye for detail with us Thanks for being you 💕✌️
That's amazing!! Cannot tell the cabinet at the end is the same piece of ugly you took off your truck in the beginning!!!
Fabulous! Your wood additions take it over the top!
The wood accents really make the piece!
I found you because Christina raved about you.
Wonderful information. I just bought a bedside table from marketplace that turned out to be laminate- I was so disappointed. A dog I was fostering pulled a piece off, I almost threw it away
I wanted the add the slats too. Good call to glue them. So much information that I didn’t know
This video makes me feel better.
Ugly duckling to lovely swan. Great job. I love the way you use recycled legs and pull. Really kept the costs down.
Thank you so much for such great explanation and instruction on painting laminate. I always look for your videos for instructions I need.
I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos and how informative you make them, I learn so much that is helpful.
I just love your attitude! I actually began crying, because I get so frustrated by trying to get started ~ you are refreshing, encouraging, and a brilliant restorer ~ thanks so much. This piece encourages me to try w navy. We never know how far sharing our example can go…..
The wood detail on the door really pulled the piece together. It turned out beautifully (once again!). The piece is no longer a hard sell.
All your projects, simple or elaborate, have class.
You are a miracle worker!
I love your ability to look beyond what is there and re-imagine a new look! Lovely!!
Excellent pointers at every stage. Really helpful!
Hi Katie,
Wow it turned out so pretty!!
A very good video like always ❤️
God Bless sweet friend.
Great job, Katie! I love this.
OMIGODDDDD Lady....you are SO creative !! Love this transformation ! ❤
I loved the explanation that you gave about the diference between all the kinds of wood, thank you so much Katie. What a beautiful peace you made!
I love the colour you chose 😊
Great result...as per usual for you.
👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 Thank you
THATS BEAUTIFUL
I love watching you and learning from you. Absolutely beautiful!
Great job!👍
You can remove all the hardware from a project and fill the screw holes with wood filler or wood glue. After filler or glue has been given time to harden, just re-drill your screw holes. I've also found that when using glue, add toothpicks into the holes along with the glue. This gives the screws some wood to grab onto and holds better than just glue alone.
Yoooooooo Katie!!! Really, really cool!!!! I very much enjoy when you make something different out of an existing piece. Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!
This looks like a fun hobby you can make a little money at too probably. Wish I had a garage.
Beautiful!
I live in Oklahoma and I'm always so bummed because I want all your pieces 😂😂
You do such a great job.
❤❤❤ so beautiful I love giving anything new life
Omg what a beautiful piece !!!!!👍😎🐕🦺
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and expertise with the community. God bless ❤
Looks amazing!!!
Love this so much. ❤ Inspires me to just maybe give this a go with my daughters dresser that has a few cup marks on it. You make it look so effortless 😊
This is so gorgeous! Love how you transformed this one. And you're such a good educator and great at encouraging others to follow your lead. Love it. I've been binge watching your older videos, even if I've seen everyone before, I love your videos😁👍👍. Together with Angie at transcend furniture gallery, your my favourite UA-camr. It must be the Canadian touch😁. Love from Sweden!
I’m in my 70’s so it took a lot of years for me to rip a small hernia at my navel-but it is a nuisance! PLEASE consider wearing a supporting back belt before you hurt yourself.
Your work has me planning to reassemble 4 fiberboard bookcases much like this project. Thank you very much for the inspiration.😊
Your project turned out beautiful
*Paint is so magical ...*
I own a mechanic shop and I have also owned a body shop. 3M double-sided tape is some of the most stickiest stuff you will ever use. You should try it! I think you will fall in love with it for things like door handles and trim. Just make sure it's in the exact spot that you want it to be when you stick it down or you could destroy the wood pulling it back off. It sticks that well especially if you press on it. I hope it works well for you. Good luck with all your projects I wish you well!!!!!!!
Hello Katie, a quick tip for refilling screw holes.
Stuff toothpicks into the hole and squeeze in some wood glue. Once dry, trim off excess and sand to level.
Thank you for your knowledge now I'll be keeping a couple of dresses inside of junking them
Always great Katie! Also, this was an especially informational video full of tips - so many it would be hard to list them all! Thank you.
Looks really good 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This is really nice. It’s sleek and clean and modern. It’s a beautiful makeover, Katie. I love the addition of the legs and slats on the door.🌸
You are absolutely brilliant!
I've just started watching... first off, hasn't your dog grown up into a beautiful girl!!?? She's so big.. but second .... I can't believe you will be able to turn this into something lovely: it looks so boring!!! Let's see what you come up with... Ooooh!!! BLUE!! I never expected that! It is a GORGEOUS colour! And wow! The whole thing turned out so dainty and elegant! It was such a lumpy chunk at the beginning! You truly have talent and vision! Another delightful and informative video. Have a lovely day, and thank you for sharing! kindest regards, k
Love the chesler blue by fusion. So pretty ❤
This is fantastic! I have several old laminate/particle board pieces - bedroom furniture, desk, entertainment center, bookshelves, end tables - that I don't want to trash, but that really need new life. I searched, hoping to find something that would show me it's possible to refinish them, and your video is PERFECT! Thank you!
Another great job!
Gorgeous ❤ So glad you decided to add the stained wood strips to the door I think it really gave it a beautiful makeover
Bravo! One more tutorial in the can and one more piece of furniture saved from the trash heap. Pulling out the box-o-parts is a great reminder all on it's own about saving things for use in the future. :-)
REally looks great !
Just picked up a small cabinet that I thought was all natural wood (I'm new to this lol) and turns out it was mostly particle board with a veneer. This video is super helpful!
Brilliant!
Absolutely beautiful, colour and style! ❤
I love that cabinet and the color, actually everything you did to it, it’s beautiful.
Amazing furniture flip as always.
Wow, amazing transformation!!
Beautiful makeover. Such inspiration
Carrying the leg color up onto the body with the decorative strips was a great call.
This is now a very useful piece of furniture, thank you for saving it for someone who will use it.
Beautiful makeover. I love the blue with the stained wood. I have had good luck filling particle board screw holes with Kwikwood or Bondo and then screwing essentially in the same spot. My 2nd video shows this. If you want a laugh, the doors didn’t close right after I did it, but I attribute that to other causes. Anyway, love your videos. I have followed your channel under my other account for years. Anne
I love it!! I just thrifted a particle board desk, it had a bunch of stuff around it and was in worse condition than I initially thought when I went back the next day to pick it up. This was so helpful, hopefully I can make it look nice again ❤
Adding the Wood Strip Details in my opinion gave the piece an added WOW factor, like Earrings with a Dress. Wonderful Work 👍👍
That was great. many people have smaller homes and solid work is not an option.
Loved your work on this project. My first time seeing a video of yours and you've just gained a new subscriber.
You are a genius!!! I love this!! ❤
Brava. This looks awesome. Thank you for the information and tips
Beautiful color choice!!!
You are so clever! Looks fantastic 😍
Lovely.
I am so grateful for your video, Katie. I learned a lot. Thank you so much!!!
Turned out Awesome!!!
Beautiful work Katie. I am going to refinish a desk that I thought about throwing out but I'll refinish it instead.
very nice colour
The stained wood strips and new feet add such a nice touch to the piece. Certainly it has a MCM vibe. Thank you for posting this video!
Wow beautiful transformation
It turned out great! What a transformation! I would love to have that beauty in my flat.🤩Thank you for giving it a new chance.
Katie-you are so talented...love it as always!!!!!
Wow you really made that beautiful.
