    I don't know how many times I have listened to this interpretation of The Partisan, how many times I have shared it friends, near and far. It is so beautiful. Thank you Matthew. Thank you Jill. And thanks to your just as soulful musicians, obviously in sync with you two. The song feels like waves rolling into the shore, soothing, mournful, remembering, never forgetting.

    On the 8 th of June I was with a French English group in a cementary to commemorate Alexandre Schawtschko member of S.O.E.. Born in Cluj 1919. Father Ukrainian, mother Hungarian. Came in France. Alexandre studied, became an ingenior, became a French Citizen. Fought in the French army, went to Great Britain. Join the S.O.E. . In 1944 was in France, training and fighting with French Resistance. Was in Creuse, near Eguzon. Kept by the German. Killed the soldier who was interrogating him. Wounded. Suicide with his gun .24.... Special dédicace for him !

    Enchanting duet. They spin well together. Sounds a bit like it has a 60's folk touch.

    Les Allemands étaient chez moi
    Ils me dirent, "résigne toi"
    Mais je n'ai pas peur
    J'ai repris mon âme

    Why did the lyrics have been changed ? «Les allemands étaient chez moi» is now «Ils étaient chez moi» et «Les allemands l'ont pris» is now «Ils l'ont pris»... What a curious way to honor the song of Leonard Cohen. He has never been afraid of what he wrote and sang.

      Leonard Cohen did not write the song, though he did cover it beautifully. It was originally written about resisters in the second world war, but I think that Matthew and Jill have shifted it so that it could apply to any conflict, any time. It's nothing to do with "being afraid".

    • @mobeuar
      @mobeuar 6 років тому +3

      It's a second world war song wrote by Emmanuel d'Astier de la Vigerie and Anna Marly. Leonard Cohen has just made some covers of this.
