“The goal is to do it again tomorrow.” That’s really helpful for me! I struggle with consistency because I overwhelm myself with big goals. I just need to do a little bit more often, than too much once in a while.
Another strategy I really like to use is stopping once I’m having fun. When I’m at the gym, and enjoying it, I’ll actually make myself go home. That way, I’m thinking about it and feeling excited to go again that week.
There must be a study about that psychology-wise because that is absolutely brilliant. Positive association with the experience I imagine would encourage its repetition. Thanks for that idea, Julia!
I'm so glad this tip is helpful! You can also do it in the reverse to stop a habit. When I'm watching Netflix and I don't want to binge for too long, I'll stop the episode 2/3 - 3/4 of the way through when the plot lulls and I notice I'm a bit bored. That's when I make myself pause the episode and go do something else. Because if I wait to the end of the episode to try and stop watching TV, it's the worst time! There's so much suspense built up by design so you keep watching.
I've been trying to create a daily meditation habit for about a decade now. I know I can do five minutes plus, but its not always easy. So when I decided I was going to do this, no matter what, I decided I only had to sit for two minutes, which really isn't that hard, and I embedded it in a routine I already had, ie getting ready in the morning: Shower, get cleaned up, get dressed, do a single sun salutation (yoga is another habit I've been working on), and sit for two minutes of meditation, that often ends up being somewhere between two and five, sometimes even more. seriously, habit stacking (thank you Courtney Carver), and doing the smallest possible form of the habit (thank you Leo Babauta) make habit formation SO much easier!
Your guidelines advice is gold. Very concise and specific. I love the content. Some of this is definitely going in my favorite list. Thanks for the content! Keep up the great work
I like how these are guidelines not "rules" and what you say about the environment being key is so, so true. Am loving the audio courses as part of the community! So inspiring 💡
I just wanted to thank you for making this video, your Action over Outcome formula has been really beneficial to me. Im currently trying to lose body fat/gain muscle and I spend a lot of time scrutinizing myself in front of the mirror, looking for changes in my physique. That tip has helped remind me that I can't control how quickly and how exactly my body is going to change so I shouldn't focus on that at all. Instead, I'm trying to just stick to my nutrition plan and go to the gym regularly, and so far i feel much more relaxed about making progress.
Wow! I’m in love with this video!! This is exactly how I lost 50lbs in 6 months a few years and how I help my clients transform their health too. You have an amazing teaching style- concise and positive. Thank you!
I loved the analogy with the tennis ball. You are completely right here. I've experienced that resistance many times and yet I still repeat the same mistake.. Building habits gradually is a key and we need good amount of patience to do that. Great video!
Just about everything I talk about here on the channel comes from lessons learned through mistakes made, haha. It happens to all of us. Thanks for watching :)
@@aongaro that's what makes the advice more valuable. The funny thing is that somebody will tell you what you do wrong or how you can improve something but you are not really listening until you feel it on your skin hahah Great content, keep it up💪
Thank you for this video! I’ve been developing a habit of waking up at 5am to go to the gym and so much of this resonated with me and is helping me feel like I’m on the right track.
Your channel is really nice. I completely agree - in some point of my life i was really negative fokussing on pushing to good habbits and progress. I think it's more important to be joyful when making progress.... so better take out the speed and enjoy progrss from time to time. Keep on doin' like this!
So helpful. Especially the view that the goal is to do it again tomorrow! You speak with clarity and warmth and I really like that. What is also a good tip for habits is anticipating obstacles beforehand and thinking up strategies to deal with them. :) e.g. ask partner to repect the habit-time, etc
Antony, you are that little person sitting on my shoulder (aka conscience) giving sound advice every so often. Thank you. By the way, I would love to help with translation (Spanish). Saludos!
@@aongaro i know you two are friends. Ive been a subscriber of you two since i started mininalism. Wait amma send a link about matt's approach to habits
Great video! I don't agree only with your guideline 8 and especially the statement that "discipline is fickle". Being disciplined means doing it no matter what. Environment does make being disciplined easier. I do think that motivation and willingness to do something are fickle and that environment definitely is a bigger factor when it comes to decision making.
1) Start smaller 2) Don't aim to 100% 3) Be kond to yourself 4) Restrart > Missing 5) Action / outcome 6) Do it again tomorrow 7) Start first , stop second 8) Environment > discipline 9) Consistent average speed 10) Newtown's 3rd low

So glad to hear that! Means the world to me.
"be kind to yourself" was the first tattoo I did, 4 years ago. It's always a good reminder :)
Hands down, my favourite minimalist yt channel!

My #1 from your amazing video is environment > discipline. You’ve probably said it before by this time I heard/processed it. Mind blown; thank you!
Love this - start first, stop second! Thanks for sharing

All really good advice and explained well. I think most of us need to be reminded of most of these often. Thank you, I love your content.
These guidelines are great and make a lot of sense.
Love the delivery and content of your videos! 💚💚
I loved this video! Thank you!
Sound and precise guides ... thank you Anthony
Minimalism practices can be a great help and you explain it really well. Great job
Thankuu soo much... Much needed.
Very nice and helpful video! Thanks! 😊
This is the best video ever about habit! Thumbs up😊
This is similar to matt d'avella's video but different in a lot of ways. The concept are similar but the delivery si different. I like it both.
Did he do one on habits recently? I know we likely share similar philosophy on this stuff. :)

Very helpful Video! Have a nice weekend! 😊
2:10 action over outcome - haha that was a cool shtick! Although it lacked some kind of background sound, like popping or a gong.

Remove distractions! That includes friend and family gossip and pressure to do things that you don’t want or need to do.
