Do you recommend bringing flashlights when returning to Volcanoes National Park after sunset? And do you know if there is currently visible lava flow to view?
Flashlights are certainly helpful as it is dark there. I think we used the light on our phone and were ok, because a lot of other people had flashlights so it wasn't totally dark. Also, we believe you can still see the lava flow, but the best thing to do is check the Volcanoes National Park NPS.gov website, reach out to them there and then when you get to the park stop at the Volcano House and see if staff there can direct you where to go. When we were there it was Devastation Trail. If you're there during the day the visitors center will be open and they can give you advice about night. Also, don't skip the overlook and seeing the lava glow at night. You can't see the lava glow as well when you're looking at the lava lake.
There is cell reception at the Waipi'o Valley Overlook, but not down in the valley. 100% cell coverage at Akaka. Btw the valley is closed to the public currently (April 2023) due to land disputes among some of the local families.
@@bpeezy2254 Much thanks for informing me the valley is closed. Is the overlook of the valley open? Id be content with just that. Regardless, I respect it. I know its not easy for the locals.
@@rummysmix2475 Yep, the overlook is open! Get there in the morning for the best views and to avoid the rain. Alternatively, you could try Polulū Valley. Nice overlook and 1ish mile trail down to the black sand beach. No land issues here! Again, best in the morning. Have fun!
We didn’t visit Kauai but it is the oldest island with the most dramatic scenery. Oahu is most densely populated so probably the least dramatic for scenery. North end of Maui is very scenic and the Road to Hana is unreal. Probably Maui or Kauai for natural scenery.
We enjoyed the drive up there because it was so different than the rest of the island. If you’re going from Kona to Hilo the drive to the visitors center doesn’t take long at all!
When to Maui last year and want to go back but booked The Big Island to see what other islands are like. I’m guessing you island hopped by flying there and was it pricey to do?
@@AdamandMadalyn yeah it’s beautiful there. Long ago it was a small serene peaceful town. It’s a nice cool change from warm and humid Hilo or hot Kona.
When I went to the Big Island in January I got up early and went into Hawaii Volcanos National Park. I wish I had done a little more research and went to Hawaii Volcanos National Park
Great vid yea snorkeling was almost a religious experience for me. The way that when you're swimming you see more tropical fish then a fish tank has and the are right there.
When you get to Volcanoes National Park there is a visitors center and hotel right by the entrance. Stop and check with the park staff, but when we were there it was the devastation trail
Awesome! Also if you go at night be sure to do the overlooks because the orange glow is really cool, and you don’t get the same effect when you’re looking at the lava lake
“E’s” are pronounced as A and a’s are pronounced as uh. Mauna KAY - UH Go to top and watch sunrise. Waipio valley access is now closed. Kona Joe’s Coffee 🤙🏽 Green sand beach-don’t waste your time. If you do go, wear shoes-no slippas! Auntie will give you a ride for a price. See Ola Brewing 🍺 in Kona And yes, the island is very livable but get used to stupid! Hawai’i is and second world country and just about everything here is 50-75 years behind the mainland. A wonderful place to visit as long as you respect the locals.
This is a GREAT video! If you do a Part 2 put Kua Bay, 2 Step, Pohoiki Ponds and Kehena Beach. Btw it is pronounced Mauna (KAY-A) and it is Kaumana Caves. Obviously you can't edit the video but in case others want to know. We are still adapting to some of the pronunciations. Well done.
Likely devastation trail to see the lava lake but go to the overlooks as well to see the orange glow. Check with the park rangers or if you get there at night go into the volcano house hotel and ask
Penka, trips to Hawaii aren’t cheap. Expect to spend over $200 per night on hotels for standard hotels. Food is more expensive. Flights are probably cheaper now than they have been historically.
That’s a tough question…we only visited 3 and liked all 3 for different reasons. If we had to recommend one island for exploring, we’d probably recommend the Big Island. It has volcanoes, rainforests, mountains, great beaches, and some really nice places to stay. Of course you can pretty much say that about all the islands but Kilauea being active puts it over the top.
2 of my favorite were the night snorkling with manta rays and the hike and snorkeling at the capitan Cook monument, so much to do on this island !
Will definitely do next time as long as Madalyn isn’t pregnant!
Seeing the volcano erupt at night seems absolutely incredible! Black sand beaches are so cool!
You’re right about both!
Very informative! I appreciate you making this video!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
Can't wait to visit the volcano I'll be in hawaii in 21 days🤗
Hopefully the visit went well!
Half way through the video - such a helpful list! Thank you!
Thank you!

Do you recall there being cellphone reception at waipio valley and akaka falls? Loved the video btw, amazing footage
Probably limited at both but the island had decent cell coverage

Great video. Just a couple things to note. It's spelled Honoka'a and there are no white sand beaches on the Big Island.
and which island is the most gorgeous in terms of natural landscape and natural scenery

That a beautiful coffee farm :) reminds me of my grandfather’s coffee farm back home ;)
You’re grandpa has a coffee farm? That’s awesome!
great video :), and i like the self Q/A. I regret not doing Mauna Kea, was it difficult drive to visitor's center and worthwhile?

Thank you so much for sharing the video! Would you mind sharing which beach it is at 11:16?
That’s actually the Old Kona Airport State Recreation Area, near Kailua-Kona
@@AdamandMadalyn Thank you!🤜

Nakecia, yes we island hopped and it wasn’t pricey at all. We flew Southwest between islands and got our flights for around $39. Safe travels!
My favorite place to stay on the big island is Waimea or Kamuela.
Nice!

Matthew we completely agree! We had various snorkeling experiences on the island and they were all tons of fun!

It's pronounced Mauna Kay-ah. No e. Great video though.

Social media and UA-cam ruined the magic of Hawaii.
Lots of cockroaches, fleas, ticks and bedbugs, and locals who are mixed with English but can't speak it right, because coconuts fell on their heads??
