The big story this week is a video that alleges to show a huge river monster in the Missouri River! But is this video fact? Or is it faked. We’ll find out. It's called Big Fish in Missouri River.
The video was first sent in by Patrick Boddie and Darryl Vaughan3. It shows a large mysterious wake in the river - indicating something huge is swimming just beneath the surface.
But is this really a big river monster on the prowl? Or are we just looking at another big fat river fake. Let’s jump in and see what we can find out.
Taking a closer look at the video, we see that is was first published in November 2014. The uploader, Toni braungardt didn’t say much about it in the description box other than it is a “really big fish of some kind.”
During the 4 minutes and 19 seconds, we travel with what sounds like two men inside the boat as they track the mysterious creature. At various points, they get excited when they catch a glimpse of it’s head.
Prom, from my Chewy Piranha research group checked into what actually lives in the Missouri River for us…
And guess what?
Prom discovered this area is known for it giant size Paddlefish that some people call Spoonbills… And this might well be what we are looking at.
But on the other hand, we don’t actually see the creature in the video.
Dan Braungardt, the man who actually recorded the video, talked to me by telephone.
Dan:
"It’s real… we followed it for a couple of miles… It acted like it wanted to play… we’d follow it a half mile up stream shut the motor off and it would come back."
Dan said the river monster creature was longer than his boat and he did see parts of it’s body.
“Back of the wake, you could see his fins moving…”
After talking to Dan, I got in touch with the Missouri Department of Conservation to see if they were aware of the video. Spokesman, Lucas Bond confirmed it had been seen by their fisheries department and thanks to information provided by them and Dan Braungarht, we were able to get this, the official answer…
Watch the video to find out what the answer is!
Missouri river doesn't move fast enough, even after rain, to allow waves of a stationary object to move forward (boat cant be pushed backwards fast enough to make it seem as if they were moving forward). Also you can see the current in the water next to the wake, that's a pretty tame current for the Missouri or Mississippi river. Big lake sturgeon, or gator gar. paddlefish would be weird considering the length and the mobility of the head. the most unbelievable part to me, is how its so hard for people to believe that a big fish was seen in a Missouri river.
😂 you have never been to the Missouri River. Have you?
@@rabbithunter8510 live near it, fish on it
@@cody6394Then you know that you're wrong
You could've dived deep in the water to find out if it's real or fake, just saying.
And then get eaten alive? That sounds smart
@@sonofmeagherofthesword1903it was a joke
You know, if you look at where it head is, at some point you can see carefully it moves from left to right. My thoughts on this is that this could be a huge undiscovered water snake of some kind, because the only animal i know that always move it head left to right while moving its body is a snake. Or it could just be a Titanoboa... you never know.
After watching the original video of the river monster, it's definitely a real creature of some sort.
It is not a log or a buoy or any other inanimate object being carried in the water.
Not only is it moving through the water at a fast pace, it's moving UP stream against the current!
Izzy Morales
Well I mean videos can be fake so watching an original video so it’s not definitely real but like 75% chance of being real
I think the vid is real, but its not a monster, just a fish
Same
I think it's real.
+AM BP me 3
its real I think
same
Jump in the water and see it's real or fake
I live in Missouri and there have been many reports of bull sharks in Missouri rivers, so it could be one of them.
Will Colton I've never found a bullshark on the Missouri River and I've fished it for 10 years.
I am a Missouri resident, living in Cape Girardeau, a small town built on the edge of the river, and I have come to place my input. The only creature of such epic size which I have spotted in the river is the alligator gar. It is a very large fish which I have found beached at on the concrete slab which slides into the river. These animals can grow very large, however the one that I saw was in no way larger than a boat. If this comment gets noticed by you, Bill, I highly suggest you looking into the alligator gar
Alligator gars can grow up to 10 feet and weigh 300 lbs. Which is why I suggest the alligator gar. It fits the description with fins and size
And ofc maybe the boat is short
Bill: You know I can't tell you what's in here until you tell me what's up here *points to mind*
Me: Um, okay. Where to start... Well, I'm probably going to fail that geometry test tomorrow...
For the river monster, I watched the original video and the more I looked at the shot with the face, the more it looked like a real fish, I got a pretty good pause moment, so I was able to see the creamish coloration of its face, so I looked up Missouri river fish, and I got a sheet with 9 different fish. I looked at the one in the middle, and it said, lake sturgeon. Now I looked up lake sturgeons, and I found out they can get HUGE. And there is also a bit of white, cream color under its chin. So I've came to the conclusion that the video of a huge fish under the water, is real!

Just a joke:

+Legendary Harry Roman I agree!
+Legendary Harry Roman I agree!
If the camera man died, how did he upload the video? SCIENCE!!!
Science Show its easy when camera man died theres a chanve the camera is still at good condition not broken and theu uploaded the video or if your tinking who uploaded it maybe a director or a friend
And also TINK!!!
I examined it and there is actually a brown fish you can see the skin when you look closely and it kinda scared me.
If u go to the original video, at 2:45 under the water, it looks like a arm or like a fin from a fish. It almost looks like a backwards c. And almost like an arch. You might be able to see more if it is near the surface. Go check it out at 2:45! It happened right then so like 2:40 I guess
And it's not the reflection of the boat
real
bill there's a chance of it to be a bull shark
Ya
Yep a while ago there was one in there
3:23 that's terrifying... I'm gonna have nightmares...
Real... I have seen meany monsters on the Missouri... Big things in that river..
i have seen a wake from a fish in a lake about 20 feet long. waves got half a foot tall.
Its real i think because the way it was moving, its definitely not a person swiming
Maybe let that guy that runs the river monsters show to catch it.
OMG, a real hail that got into Malaysia fees because I actually live in Malaysia but everyone told me that there is no dangerously weather in Malaysia but thunderstorm or drought
Glad to see you man up and admit a mistake.
It's the lochness monster on vacation
It's a joke you have no sense of humor
LMAO 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
Its nessi!!
Lol Nessie!!!
Nessie I don't think so
Bill, a log or buoy wouldn't come back to the boat after going a few feet. I think it's a creature.
I've spent a lot of time on the Missouri River via kayak. The object is staionary. It's most definitely a submerged buoy. Seen this many times. Sensationalize it how you want. Sturgeon and Catfish don't surface for large periods of time like this buoy does. Shutting off your motor and letting the current take you back only creates the illusion that it is moving forward. It's two drunk guys on a boat looking at a bouy. Sorry if that ruins your imagination. I'm 100% sure at what I'm seeing here.
It's real because it's moving
this video popped up on my notifications right when our car passed the Missouri river XD. (we are traveling back home)
Stop = go back - go swimming !
+billschannel Hey Bill
+billschannel lol
lol, I'd love to swim there. and are family plans on going there on my and my sisters gotcha day! :D. And if i see anything fishy, i know what to do xD.
Wow....
It’s not a spoonbill or paddle fish because both of those fish lay on the bottom of the river for their whole life
R.I.P. Robert Overacker
thedude574 poor dude
thank you for everything pokèmon 9 charizaird
Thats just a vortex
is this el jichi or an titanoboa cause am saying its real
Since WHEN would a titanoboa be in our river?!?!
@@zim.is.emo. or a giant green anaconda...it looks like a snake if you ask me
Well....... I’m moving to Colorado.
I live close to the Missouri river (which is located in the Midwest such as Iowa) and I have also witnessed big under water wakes like this. There are paddlefish here, also known as spoonbill. They have long, paddle-shaped rostrums that are about one-third the length of their bodies or it could be the Pallid sturgeon which is closely related to the paddlefish. The sturgeon may reach lengths of over 5 feet, and weigh more than 80 pounds. In the video if you look really close, it looks like there is something enlogated on the head. The paddlefish are usually bottom dwellers but still swim up to the surface. They can get up to 5 feet so yea it's very possible that what they were seeing is either the paddlefish or sturgeon. What is equally as fascinating is these two fish are actual living dinasaurs. The paddlefish is a primitive cartilaginous fish that has remained unchanged for some 300 million years. Also, the Pallid sturgeon comes from a genetic line that has lived on this planet for tens of millions of years; yet it has been decades since anyone has documented any of the enormous fish successfully producing young that survive to adulthood in the upper Missouri River basin. Look it up. Sooooo to be technical I would consider them a sort of river monster just knowing that their DNA hasn't really changed from their pre-historic ancestors deeming them "living dinasaurs".
Exotik Angel I live in Missouri
Probably a sturgeon
Could of been a big bull shark
Real, because thats something that lurks in the rivers of somekind. Maybe it is a new type of species of some kind. Probably a dolphin, or snapping turtle or a friendly alligator of some kind but idk, its not like im an expert anyway.
Also we were going up stream and dad was going super fast if it was a bouy or a log how could it be going up stream that fast in fact how could it even be going up stream it would be going for with the current
I think it was a big snake like anaconda because of patterns of ripples waves generated
@@funfourtynine4753 once I heard of an anaconda that's what I thought it was too but I don't think anaconda are in st. Charles MO
The Diamond Report is in.
The Video and claim that it's a river monster is REAL!
The part where they "see the creature's head" doesn't seem to show fakery.
And, some huge fish live in the rivers of the USA, so it would make sense to me if this was the case.
Please do the real vs fake thing on boobs

whut?
you have a dirty mind

this animal better be fake because I live in Missouri

It's a megalodon
It's way to small for that
Megladon lives in salty water that water is not salty

Catfish get huge in the Missouri River. When ones caught and cleaned sometimes people would nail it's head to a tree. A head bigger than a human head. You'd see one every year at the river in Lexington Missouri.
real you sond like it going to be a tricky question so real i could be wrong though lol
its so real its awesome
Real
Zmaybe it is a large crocodile
Crocodiles don’t live near Missouri

xXNoFreeMoDdZzZ you're not the only one I live in Missouri
Its it moving up stream or is the boat moving with the strong current downstream. why not try and see what it is?
Well the video is real but it's not a monster
Yep I agree
Yep your right dude
ya
I agree too
That is what I was thinking
Real
Log ain’t gonna be moving up river an under water
or maybe the boats going down river with the current while the stationary object remains... either way why not poke it or something and find out.
I know what you mean by it might be a paddle fish, but a paddle fish can't be longer than a boat. I saw the pictures of them and it's roughly the height of an adult. And if it was a log or a buoy, it wouldn't last that long under the water, it would occasionally pop out more than 30 cm of it. Plus, only 5% of our oceans are discovered, which means, this thing would be anything. Even if it's a lake. I visited the place myself and the trees don't tend to fall down in the river and I did catch a slight glimpse of something moving on the surface of the water. So in my opinion, it's real.
TheAnimeGirl Charlotte oh no paddle fish can get really big, but are always sitting at the bottom
REAL!

Dan TDMfan dhegsjsususha
Dylan Smash did you smash your keyboard or something?
I say it is real since he said after he shut off the engine of the boat the thing would stop and come back to him
Bill, I have to tell you that this... is... a... big, fat, REAL. When they started to say "I saw that, I saw that", they didn't see the head... they saw the body. It looks like a REALLY BIG eel because you can see what looks to be a straight line on the back just like a eel. I kept looking over and over until I saw it. So bill, I hope that if you get this, that this will be enough evidence for my answer. Goodbye
Not reading that all
Ok
omg i live kinda near that river 😮
fake
Nausheen Rabia how do you know thats fake
oh no i live in that area and im very frantically concerned
Why is the big story all ways fake
Missouri River Monster is REAL. The cable show RIVER MONSTERS showed two separate incidents where full grown Bull Sharks were caught in the Missouri River near Alton, Illinois.
Wonder Woman Smith wut
I live in Edwardsville near Alton
Okay hey Bill I was looking around the video and looked closer and I saw ridges in the water. A paddle fish does not have ridges neither do snakes, so I suspect that this is a monster in the river. It's probably not exactly a monster if it only wanted to play but it's definitely not supposed to be in there. Or it could be a cat fish because it does have ridges and their are pretty big catfish in Missouri River, but I just can't get my head around the fact it was bigger than his boat.
I want captain crunch cereal..
I literally saw something bigger than that. In a small reservoir.
That is why I am never skydiving...im afraid about the parachutes...:( :( :(
it is a baby Karmen
I know what that is if I'm correct that matches the swim pattern of a large gator or croc so i thunk that its a dislocated croc or gator
It could be a bull shark there are some in the Missouri
Landen Wapner-Mcpeek true
But we can't see the fin
Landen Wapner-Mcpeek noway Sharks don't swim slow and like that....100% no!...
Its real
And its not possible to be any creature that lives in the water because we re not live there
And there are so many creature that we never discover yet in the water
I think it’s a bullshark or a lost dolphin or whale because dan said it acted like it was trying to play with them which supports my idea of it being a whale or dolphin because dolphins and whales are known to be are known to be playful.
Charlotte M that's sounds plausible but it would have to go a long way to get that far inland.
It’s plausible that it could have been a Bull Shark. They have been found as far as Alton, Illinois. I totally believe it is real, whether a shark or some other very large fish.
Real Ship Launch Fail but the camera didn’t die 🚢 🛳
And the thing whatever it might be seems to respond to the boat coming closer when the boat approaches it the thing seems to weave back and forth when the boat approached the thing would turn a little bit to the left and when the boat moved away it came back to the path that it was originally following.
I would say it is real because as the river gets deeper the log or whatever it might be would go deeper.
FREAKING REAL
because some fish in the Missouri can get real big!
Poor stuntman that fell to his death.😥
Just scan the Missouri river with sound waves if its real or not?
Real as a human
Something is in water but i dont think its monster
this may be unknown either way without putting his camra under the water its impossible to see what it is. It cant be a log it would be swerving around due to the current. Also it cant be a log because of its fins. The only way to do this is do call the guy who made the video and try catch the monster again and put the camra under the water.
I live in Kansas City, Missouri and lemme tell yall. 100% REAL!!!!!!!!!!! It's a sibling of Nessi. His name is Issen.
Ye right
It was Mermade Mallisa maybe 🤔
Its a crocodile aj thing Real or fake vote nowwwwwwwwww
My grandpa heard about the Missouri Lake monster and he said "Only monster prowling Missouri is I" *Wipes tear* Haven't seen him since
Real it maybe a saltwater crocodile
i think its real man cuz after i checked the original vid i kinda saw fins or maybe its just water but i think its real
real. I havent scrolled the comment box yet.
Why would the so called "Log" just stop when they said the river monster was being playful?
