- EMDR is an evidence-based treatment where repetitive eye movement is used to help people process past traumatic events and to reduce the emotional distress associated with those events.
Developed by Dr Francine Shapiro in the late 1980's for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder it has shown to be affective for the treatment of many mental health issues.

Please feel free to suggest any topics you might like me to cover in future videos.
Darren, you should not be "explaining "EMDR Therapy. This topic needs more time. It can't be "explained in under 4 minutes.
This is highly controversial and can be extremely dangerous even when precautions have been taken.
I know this first hand. It almost cost me my life. I was advised by a consultant psychologist that this retraumatised me. I can't and won't go into my personal experience. This is not suitable for most people. I find this extremely concerning.
I have edited my review. I realise Darren was not recommending EMDR. He was explaining it.
Hi Lorraine I’m not recommending it (I don’t practice it) I’m only outlining the approach since it was requested by a quite a few viewers. I would agree with you about finding out more about any approach beforehand. No one approach will work for everyone
Hi Darren, if you haven’t already can you please make a video on signs that you are healing from narc abuse? Thank you.
Thank you for your suggestion 👍
Darren Magee ☀️, I appreciate you and the work that you do. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, wisdom and compassion. Thank you for making this world a better place for all of us, future generations included. 🙏 ☮️ ❤️ 🐕
I was treated in The Priory hospital with EMDR back in 1999; it was a new therapy in UK then. But I honestly believe that this treatment saved me from the resulting PTSD after severe traumatic event.
Thank you for sharing information about EMDR!
I've had EMDR and it has increased my quality of life more than words can ever explain. I've tried to explain to other people what it is and most other videos on the topic are too involved for an easy understanding.
I was supposed to do this, but my regular psychologist said it might not help because I cannot be hypnotized. I did the eight weeks of dTMS, instead. Best choice ever, for me.
I know little about that approach but from what I’ve read it is quite effective. Think I’ll look more into it thank you for sharing
Thanks for sharing
Great outline - succinct and to the point
Thanks for covering this topic. I'll be switching from talk therapy to EMDR soon so I'm taking in whatever information I can find on the topic. You're appreciated!
This is a really interesting therapy technique, thank you for the informative video.
Appears a technique to get people out of their customary comfort zones and thus stimulate their volition, questioning things in truth reveals.
Reducing or enhancing ones own rationale to be reflective of reasoning and irrational types to better compromise or atleast introspect in a more constructive manner.
Great progress potential for child development therapy.
I just started EDRM with a new therapist but we're just laying a foundation with grounding techniques.
Don't start dealing with your compounded issues through trauma-reprocessing, if you're likely to be suffering from disorganised attachment, or from severe attachment disturbances generally.
In this case, do attachment-repair therapy, such as the Three-Pillars-Method by Brown, Elliott, et. al., and only proceed to trauma-reprocessing, once you've become sufficiently securely attached (earned secure attachment).
Otherwise you're risking an increase in the disorganisation of your mind and ability to relate securely.
Thats good you put up this vid👍
I think its pathetic how majority of psychologists dont use this great therapy treatment or know about it
Darren l found this very interesting.l would like you to talk about narcissistic abuse from a sibling. This has been going on all my life with my brother who is five years older, we are now in our sixties and no one seems to address sibling abuse, l can't be the only one having to deal with it. If it were not a family member l would have cut them out of my life years ago.
I would like to have heard your opinion on the subject.
💗
I had EMDR Therapy and was retraumatised afterwards. I was extremely unwell and in a dissociative state. If you have repressed traumas, you can't discuss them beforehand. This therapy is not advised for people with CPSD. I had to have intervention from a consultant psychologist to help me recover. I would strongly advise anyone thinking about this kind of therapy to research properly. It is highly controversial, and I'm concerned when I hear it being "explained" by psychotherapists.
I'm disappointed to see it on this forum.🤔
I edited my review as Darren did not recommend EMDR. He "outlined the approach."

He didn't really recommend it but I'm glad he explained it. I'll be switching to it soon because I'm not getting anywhere with talk therapy and, between what I'm learning from both the videos and the comment section, it's worthwhile for me. Thanks for your comment.
I had EMDR in 2008 for many months for extreme trauma. I feel like it is coming back. I find myself in a flop sweat most days. My mind is racing with anxiety. I’m living in a different city and therapy is not readily available. I’m wondering if I need another full corse of EMDR ? I have been doing a bit of research on ketamine therapy. Any thoughts? Any suggestions are most appreciated:)
Dude… go on UA-cam and look up WIM HOF. His BREATHING technique and COLD SHOWER therapy HEALS AND MAKES PEOPLE HEALTHY. also look up his story. He OVERCAME depression HIMSELF… NO doctors. He’s AMAZING.
@@HeavenlyLights thank you I’ll check it out. Have a great day!
Like everything else,it doesn't always work.
Just don't do it to autistic people. While the presentation of trauma and and anxiety may look the same - it comes from entirely different brain function.
Hi! As an autistic person with CPTSD, I'd love to learn more about this specifically. Are there references you could point me towards?
In any case, thanks for bringing it up. 😊
@@laurenceboischot4265 That's a good question. I hope you're able to get an answer.
@@BeingLifted thanks! I could also be less lazy and look for sources myself. 😅
This i want more info about! Super interessting!
