The first three lego models got me so accustomed to having those mono-red engines on top of the gunship that I thought the ones on the UCS being mostly white was an error. After looking up images from the movie though, I see that the mostly white look is the more accurate one

Honestly, I prefer the Clone Wars (show) version, because of the side stickers (which are lore accurate) and the ability to close the side doors more. Also, the ability to put a speeder bike inside is great in terms of play.
I just want the newest version of the 2013 set, with some more details, and good minifigs, even if it will cost around 180$. It's not the price that stops me from the UCS, is the size.

The 2008 gunship is cool after removing the grey piece inside I was able to fit 8 clone troopers and it displays pretty well! The 2013 gunship is amazing and has great play/display ability! Don’t have the 2002 one yet but those old clone trooper are so nostalgic and so is Jedi bob! Side note when a gunship is released an AT-TE is close or not far behind!
Definitely going to get the UCS gunship once the hype dies down a bit... the problem I have is it's so f*cking huge, I have no idea where I'm going to display it.
I much prefer the gunship design where the doors fully close ngl, having a huge opening didnt rlly make sense to me for a ship(i guess the context of troop transport makes sense in the movies but still, it literally cant go into space)
In fairness they weren’t designed to The republic vehicles were all designed together so it was assumed they would all act as a part of a greater whole So the gunship would never be in space unless in an acclimator and it’s Main job was deploying troops and AT units from the acclimator bays and potentially carrying out precision strikes though obviously as a back up role since these things are fragile as hell (minimal armour, no shields (despite shields increasing planetary speeds) and wide gaps for clones to get in and out efficiently
Later versions yes but it’s honestly likely the designers didn’t expect it to be used without an acclimator while that is theorised to not even initially have weapons as it was supposed to be supported by venators
i wish i didnt throw out my lego club magazines, seeing the older sets made me remember the lego 'culture' at the time especially on early youtube, such good memories
I think in the older battlefront series video game, when we could fly these gunships on galactic conquest, The wing turrets were manned by clone troopers.
Clone Wars Gunship supremacy! All the little things add up. Fully closing doors, speeder, command thing, medical pod, probe droids, flick rockets. Maybe I'm biased because it was my favorite set to play with as a kid.
As a 2013 LAAT owner, I preferred the 2013 speeder due to it being able to exit the gunship with the character on it, but I will give you the 2008 advantages on everything else.
I just got the 2013 gunship sealed aside from torn up box for $50 a few days ago from a garage sale and I cannot believe it because it is one of my all time favorite sets and I’ve been back and forth about dropping $500 on one so getting it for so low is a dream come true.
I’ll always prefer 2013, but since I have a play scale one I’m gonna get the UCS one too. Who knows maybe I’ll collect every gunship, get me the clone wars one and Jedi Bob one.

I think if you look at it now, the 2013 gunship (which is easily the best play scale gunship) is about 400$ sealed. If you really wanted to get a good gunship you might as well buy the ucs one because unlike the 2013 one, it's well worth the hefty price tag
I sold my 2013 model around a year ago and assumed the UCS version wouldn’t be much larger, but the thumbnail was a pleasant surprise! The UCS edition is massive!
I swear this USC could’ve been so better, you don’t even have the ability to close the doors plus I personally believe that the interior should’ve been more detailed with controls and stuff that’s not stickers.
the clone wars version has front and back doors, this version is based off the movies which have ball turrets and no front doors so it would be inaccurate to the movies if it had the closing doors and of course this is ucs so they want to make it as accurate as possible. The interior details are very close to the real thing and it shouldn't have more detailing since it would be inaccurate.
I would say if you're an adult, maybe go for the new UCS one, but if you're a kid and want a playscale version, the 2013 one will be too expensive, so I'd say you'll have the most fun building your own Gunship moc. I did this before I got the 2013 version and I had a blast adding features like a missile bombing function. Hopefully there will be another play scale one in the future from ROTS
I only have the 2008 one. I would have loved the 2013 one, but I don't have enough room to buy more than one of the same vehicle. I'm always struggling to find anywhere to put my Lego as it is. My collection has been going since 2005 so it's almost impossible.

Really wish they would have made it minifig scale. I feel like the play sets are slightly undersized. Doing the USC one would give them a chance to make it a perfect size and add a shit ton of cool figures
@@0netrick198 They're as close as it can be, I think. Lego sets will never be 100% on scale because the minifig isn't scaled with a human. You'll always compromise height or width or overall volume...

I keep saying this.. a ucs set should not have stickers.. hell sets above a certain price should not have stickers.. they make enough money from sets like that to include printed pieces. It just sucks having a gorgeous expensive set where the so much depends on the right placement off stickers..

I like the overall look and some of play features more, but it lacks something the 2002 version had. Maybe just a subjective opinion of someone who had the 2002 set in childhood.

It's literally called the low altitude assault transport. It isn't meant for space.

The original gunship used to split into a top half that was used to drop off the at-te. The bottom half made into a command center

According to the lego website, the UCS gunship is based on the Geonosis arc from the clone wars.
