The Haunted Mansion is awesome in its own right, but I honestly believe that the Phantom Manor is more interesting in terms of storytelling. The Haunted Mansion is definitely creative in developing different stories for the ghosts that haunt the mansion, but if you were to research the backstory of the attraction itself, you might end up finding many interpretations. I even own a few of the comic books dedicated to it! There has been so many stories surrounding the lore that it can be overwhelming. As much as I love stories that reveal so many other stories within it, I do like to cut to the chase every once and a while. Phantom Manor is very simplistic to follow, whether you're watching this video, you're reading up on the story online, or you've actually been on the ride before. That's the beauty of Phantom Manor; it doesn't need a vast library of lore to get the idea across. Honestly, the tragic ghost story of Melanie Ravenswood reminds me of one of my favorite short stories, William Faulkner's A Rose for Emily (I recommend it, it's not too long and it's really creepy). Both stories revolve around a young woman who lives in a decaying house, heartbroken and lonely, and the horrors that occur within the house. Melanie's story is literally a Gothic, morbid tale - a genre of literature I absolutely love. Plus, it does give off a "Phantom of the Opera" vibe, although it's probably official that the Phantom is actually Melanie's father, Henry Ravenswood. If the Phantom and Henry are one in the same, then that just makes the story even creepier (and very similar to A Rose for Emily). I know this is a long comment, but I just had to write it down. To say that PM is better than HM would be unfair, in my opinion. Both are great attractions but for totally different reasons. But in terms of storytelling, Phantom Manor definitely takes the wedding cake.

@RobinTIS The Iron Sea Well I don't. I don't like the changes in the story, nor the new portraits. It also makes the bride never-to-be as crazy as the black widow bride, thus reducing the ride's uniqueness compared to the other mansions.
@@cherryspice1011 I don't think Melanie was ever to be portrayed as a Black Widow bride, more like she has shit luck with finding a man because an evil spirit haunts her. She was essentially the polar opposite of the evil phantom as she is good and just, and about to finally marry but the phantom wanted to stop it. Hence why the Phantom was always first seen hanging Melanie's fiance since the very beginning. It was just renovated to make it obvious her father played a part in all those men dying and is the phantom that continues to haunt her
As much as I enjoyed the 2019 Refurbishment nothing can compare to this version I guess I just have a Passion for the original haunted mansions rather than the a rurbished versions as awesome as they are
The graveyard scene is a lot scarier and more intricate in the Phantom Manor than it is in the haunted mansion at Disneyland. Does anyone know what the story of this ride is. Something about a bride that was left in her wedding day?
XtraOrdinaryGirl It's a long and intricate story but I'll try to write it down cause I love it! (and please correct my English if I write something wrong 😅) So, in Victorian age there was a family called Ravenswood. The father, Harry, I think this was his name, was the boss of a mine cave ( which is big thunder mountain); one day the miners found a big gold nugget which made Mr Ravenswood used to buy the house (Phantom manor) a open a saloon (The Lucky Nugget, in front of Phantom Manor). Meanwhile a young miner fell in love with Mr Ravenswood's daughter and wanted to marry her but the father didn't think he was enough for her. One day, the miners went so deep in the cave, looking for more gold, that the spirit of the mountain (represented by an eagle) got angry and killed most of the miners, including mr Ravenswood by causing a earthquake (or some people say with a big thunder that causes a landslide). Finally the daughter could have got married with the young miner but the ghost of her father came back hauting the house and the day of the wedding he forced the miner to hang himself. So there was no wedding, the guests died waiting for her to get married and she was cursed, forced to wait alive someone to marry her, ore someone alive who would take her place in the house, to be the 1000th ghosts and letting her die in peace. ☺️
I wish I could’ve gone on this version 😭 Even things like the mirror in the boudoir scene are so much more visually striking and terrifying despite the new effect being more technically impressive. Also the phantom creeping over you during the hitch hiking ghost part is so terrifying. I wish they would’ve kept the original story intact and make some minor technical improvements. The bride is much more likable and sympathetic in the original version because the narrative revolves around her wanting to escape and leave the manor in the stretching room (her having fun outdoors being juxtaposed with her being trapped in the manor), then her heart break with the loss of her one true love who was going to help her get away for good for the rest of the ride. Now her whole character is being paired with men, whether it be the suitors or her father/phantom and we learn nothing about her. And the phantom being this mysterious entity who doesn’t get fully revealed until the second half of the ride instead of being paraded at every second makes the atmosphere spookier.
This ride looks way more creepier than the Haunted Mansion! This ride looks good unless i can go to Disneyland Paris soon (P.S. Can someone tell me the history of the Phantom Manor and how it started?)

And in fact Mr ravenswood wanted to keep his whole family in the manor (Mélanie his daugther and marta his wife) but the future husband don t want to live in the manor so after a earth shake ( i think it is called like this in english ) created by the spirit of big thunder Mountain Mr ravenswood die with marta and his gosht came back to kill Mélanie's future husband (we can see the death in the elevator) So Mélanie wait her future husband for a long time (because she didnt know he was dead) and die of sadness
Thunder Mesa is a city in the American Far West. One of his founders, Henry Ravenswood possessed a mine that was apparently cursed because the rumors said that inside, a Thunderbird was protecting the biggest treasure of the mine. Henry Ravenswood decided to build a manor on a hill named "Boot Hill" so he could live happily with her wive, Mary, and her daughter, Mélanie (yes she had a French name because a Cast Member actually named her officially). Now many years have passed, Melanie is now about to marry a man (some people said Henry and this man didn't have good relationships) but the day before the wedding, a dynamite crash happened in the mine. Henry and Mary lost their lives. Although Melanie decided to maintain the wedding. She waited, and waited, and waited. But nothing. The groom was missing. Desesperate, she locked herself in the manor with all the servants, and never went outside. The trees started to die. 30 years after, two servants managed to go outside and told there was a strange spirit in the Manor called the "Panthom". About the ride, there's many theories. One said that the Phantom is Henry, who kept Melanie locked because he didn't accept her future hushband. It's a theory that makes sense but actually mine is that the husband is the phantom. In my opinion, there was a rumor that the groom wanted only Melanie's fortune. Henry and Mary thought it was true , even told Melanie of who her husband really is. People even thought the groom has made the dynamite crash happens. Melanie decided to maintain the wedding but started to get serious doubts, she warned the police that the man she was about to marry was maybe a murderer and while the groom was on his way, he was stabbed by a guy who worked for Melanie. Melanie realizing what she done locked herself in the manor, but someone who died unfairly had the right to revenge. So did he. Thus he became the Phantom, trying to hold Melanie in hostage while she was dying of sadness and guiltness. He decided to stay with her all along. But Melanie ignored who he was, couldn't even recognize him. And the spirit started getting meaner and meaner as long as Melanie didn't recognized him. Once Melanie realized, she died: fear, guiltness has killed her. She has eventually decided to stay in this place with her husband forever. But she couldn't forbid the servants to escape. That's why, two of them did. That's my theory but can easily be debunked.
Saw how they changed the story with the refurbishment. Heartbroken that I'll never be able to ride this version. The hitchhiking ghosts section here is way spookier. Don't know why they would change it.
I went on this ride when I was 12 years old and I was scared to death. I didn't know any French at all, but still.. the music made it really scary. I'm now nearly 22 and I think I would still be scared :) But I would love to go on that ride some time again, because I can still remember a few things.. In that first room that stretched I remember that the staff came up behind us when it was dark and just yelled: "Boo!" Also I thought I remembered the carriages being white and in the shape of hands? Did they change that or is my memory just bad?
I've never been to this ride ever (cause not near europe or euro disneyland to ever really go.), but I would love to go on this version of the ride! It looks so much scarier and alot more fun just to see everything up close and not how I am able to see the ride. Yes, I know it would be in french and I wouldn't understand hardly what was going on, but since listening to vincent price's english narration for the portion of the time since my discovery of this version... I don't think it would be a problem. and for the carriages, I've always known them to be black cause of the original haunted mansion's being that way.
I have watched phantom manor for the first time. I live in Japan, and sometimes go to Tokyo Disneyland(TDL). In TDL, there is a attraction that is named "Haunted mansion." I though they are similar attraction, but have many difference(ex: story, character, situation etc). I felt so fresh! I'm excited☺️💗 Thank you for your uploading! (I'm sorry, but my English skill is maybe bad...)
2:37 I know that the stretching portraits need to occasionally be replaced due to wear and tear, so if this reaches anyone with the power to make a change, go into photoshop or something and make a new version of that one where the bugs haven't quite reached the plate yet. Nothing abnormal should be visible when the painting is at it's shortest.
I actually feel bad for this woman. All she did was want to marry the man she loved but her father killed her lover. And now she is doomed to roam around the manor. Looking for her love.
Thefollower Gamer Yes that’s my favorite ride in Disneyland Paris ! But it needed it, many effects doesn’t work and the attraction started to become old.. I can’t wait it return of refurbishment !
yes and no....while the Haunted Mansion we know in Disneyland and Walt Disney World came before Phantom Manor, the darker aspect of Phantom Manor was an original concept for the tone of the Haunted Mansion. (The imagineers couldn't decide whether the Haunted Mansion should be fully dark and scary or fully lighthearted and humorous, so they went with both.)

Vivi Dinkley The bride (Mélanie) has waited too long for her husband, except that he never came (because he was killed) so Mélanie died in her turn but in a way her soul (skeleton) continues to wait and haunts these places. (Sorry for the English i'm French) I hope I helped you ;)
@@theorca3275 They changed the sliding tables because the attraction is located in Frontierland so they wanted to connect it with the land and its history. History of Phantom Manor after the modification: The daughter of the patriarch of the manor, Melanie Ravenswood, was courted by four suitors... all of whom met ends as mysterious as they were untimely. Rumor has it that her father, Henry Ravenswood, found that none of these suitors were ever good enough for his beloved daughter. It is even rumored that he is not unrelated to all these disappearances, but nothing has ever been proven. On the other hand, everyone agrees on the fact that the future bride has not finished waiting... and will remain a future bride for a long time! (Source Disneyland Paris)
I love Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris just like The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland, Walt Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland (I also love The Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare at Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland) The appearance of the Phantom Manor reminds me of Bates Motel House from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho 1960 or Overlook Hotel from Stephen King's (Or Stanley Kubrick's) The Shining 1980 Also, the behind story of the manor is very darker and scarier than The Haunted Mansion The background story of Phantom Manor reminds me of The Phantom Of The Opera, William Shakespeare's Hamlet or Sweeney Todd : The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street I also love that undead dog from 9:55 to 10:00 Furthermore, the skeletal zombies at 10:24 reminds me of Emily and Elder Gutknecht from Tim Burton's Corpse Bride
Can I leave some feedback here? I love the ride's story and music, BUT the riders and maintenance let it down so bad. Within one ride, I've had people talk noisily, push in front, crowd in as many possible, and to make the ride feel even less scary and easy to take in; it broke down TWICE! And all because people were throwing stuff on the tracks. To improve the ride, maybe they could start filtering patrons and ride times more, to keep the isolated feel of the place alive. It would be a lovely chance for us to fully take in all the Manor's details! If you do promotional work for Disney, and are allowed to film, does that mean you can give them feedback too? Please, I love ghost trains and the like (I got to go to the old Vienna Prater one! ^_^), but as much as this is the ghost ride of my childhood, it feels like it's falling apart from over-crowding and the disrespect of the guests.
Bobsheaux They actually did try having him read the lines in French, but he had trouble with it and the tracks were deemed unusable. So they got Gerard Chevalier to do the French narration. I believe there's a video of the recording session floating about.
So how much of the ride is actually in English? At the beginning a lot of it was French, but the later scenes were English. Apparently some of the ride audio was dubbed for this video, but which language is on the actual ride?
Hearing Vincent Price (God rest that great actor soul) laugh in the video is in my opinion one of the best choices by the imagineers at Disneyland Paris and those who thought of the idea should be treated as fucking royalty......oh wait France doesn’t have a good history of royalty

watching this after watching a vid of the new renovated version
Same here. It's all cool, right? Makes me want to go.
@RobinTIS The Iron Sea Well I don't. I don't like the changes in the story, nor the new portraits. It also makes the bride never-to-be as crazy as the black widow bride, thus reducing the ride's uniqueness compared to the other mansions.
@@ericsander3620 rly? I love the new one if the phantom....... But yeah not much new stuff did like.....
babyhols777 sameee
@@cherryspice1011 I don't think Melanie was ever to be portrayed as a Black Widow bride, more like she has shit luck with finding a man because an evil spirit haunts her. She was essentially the polar opposite of the evil phantom as she is good and just, and about to finally marry but the phantom wanted to stop it. Hence why the Phantom was always first seen hanging Melanie's fiance since the very beginning. It was just renovated to make it obvious her father played a part in all those men dying and is the phantom that continues to haunt her
As much as I enjoyed the 2019 Refurbishment nothing can compare to this version I guess I just have a Passion for the original haunted mansions rather than the a rurbished versions as awesome as they are
Rerubished is right.
(and please correct my English if I write something wrong 😅)
So, in Victorian age there was a family called Ravenswood.
☺️
I thought none of this happens until her father is dead and she'll be happily married to Jake.

This is a superb video of the best version of this ride. I miss this version.
At least they kept the Vincent Price laugh track for the phantom
Wonderful job! Finally someone who understands the importance of detail!
Très belle vidéo ! Incroyable, la mâchoire du Phantom marche !
C rare mais oui :-)
I love the backstory for it and I wish they had this in Disney world
Well it’s in Disney land Paris
Kawaii_ Kitten disney paris
Kawaii_ Kitten I’m in the Bay Area, I wish this was at disneyLAND.
Kawaii_ Kitten in terms of story it’s the best Disney ride but haunted mansion in CA is still the best tied with pirates in CA
The_derp_ Pancake the one in California is the the original they others are copy’s
The renovation has some cool effects but this was a far superior Phantom Manor.
Such a great ride x first time I was SO SCARED but ended up going on 5 times 😂😂
I'm glad that they are focusing more on the bride in this one I love her!!
This ride looks way more creepier than the Haunted Mansion! This ride looks good unless i can go to Disneyland Paris soon (P.S. Can someone tell me the history of the Phantom Manor and how it started?)

DadtheGamer01 I Gaming and More! I wrote it but forgot to tag you 😅
This name is Henry ravenswood
And in fact Mr ravenswood wanted to keep his whole family in the manor (Mélanie his daugther and marta his wife) but the future husband don t want to live in the manor so after a earth shake ( i think it is called like this in english ) created by the spirit of big thunder Mountain Mr ravenswood die with marta and his gosht came back to kill Mélanie's future husband (we can see the death in the elevator)
So Mélanie wait her future husband for a long time (because she didnt know he was dead) and die of sadness
Wow I’m really impressed! It’s a little scarier than haunted mansion even!
Out of all the Disney haunted houses, this is the best and most awesome!!
Oh, how I miss this version...
Yes
I went on this the month before I turned 4 in 2006. I’m 18 now.
Omg when he brought the camera near the grave of Melanie I could hear her singing 12:53
I have watched phantom manor for the first time.
I live in Japan, and sometimes go to Tokyo Disneyland(TDL).
In TDL, there is a attraction that is named "Haunted mansion."
I though they are similar attraction, but have many difference(ex: story, character, situation etc).
I felt so fresh! I'm excited☺️💗
Thank you for your uploading!
(I'm sorry, but my English skill is maybe bad...)
Your Haunted Mansion (TDL) is an exact copy of Disney World's Haunted Mansion, take a look if you want :D
You’re lucky, you get Tokyo Disney sea, possibly the greatest theme park in Disney history.
@@lukeprescott8471 Animal kingdom though. Americans are lucky to have that park too. Meanwhile Paris gets ignored.
115DELDE Paris though has possibly the greatest incarnations of classic attractions you can find.
You're lucky, your Haunted Mansion has a better Attic than what those of us in America have
You earnt a sub! The quality is outstanding!
Good eye!
Im still mad they changed it.
Oh my god no this is easily better than the new version.
This is the best Video of all 😍😚😚😚
This is really beautiful!
I love the outside of the house. Really cool!!
As much as I love the classic singing busts (10:33+) they actually don't seem to fit here.
Rip Paul Frees (Haunted Mansion narrator) ... I personally think this is a tad scarier, but the Haunted Mansion still has a special place in my heart
🙂🙂🙂🙂😙😙😚😚☺😆😁😄

What camera do you use to film these rides? You get some amazing quality!
3:10 i miss that already in the Phantom Manor 😔
watching this to help me get over the monstrosity of the new refurb!
I actually feel bad for this woman. All she did was want to marry the man she loved but her father killed her lover. And now she is doomed to roam around the manor. Looking for her love.
Merci d'avance !
When you go to Disney parks overseas, do they have any devices to translate the rides for English/other languages?
If it's writtin there's always a translation, but for spoken dialogue there is none.
lmao. If only. DLP is mostly bilingual. Dominant use of french, but there is some english for the rest lf the tourists.
How long is the wait for this ride? It's one of the first I want to go on in August when I go to Disneyland for the first time
Rosie Rennie this ride is on refurbishment until october 2018
the line on a normal day is 40-50 minutes. On super busy days its 60+ minutes (there are only two rides in Frontierland).
I go on DLP this august (23-27). I can't wait!
Thefollower Gamer Sorry, the ride is on refurbishment until January 2019
Clement VIRICELLE I notice it. I'm so sorry about this. With Small word and Pirates of carribean is the best ride.
Thefollower Gamer Yes that’s my favorite ride in Disneyland Paris ! But it needed it, many effects doesn’t work and the attraction started to become old.. I can’t wait it return of refurbishment !
this is much more scarier then the disneyland version Like If You Think The Same

Is this haunted room actully stretching or is it your imagination?
It is stretching
Zachary Rude it’s a lift
they move you down slowly to create the illusion of the room stretching
the paintings are just paintings
Wait, did they replace the haunted mansion?
No, this was the inspiration for The Haunted Mansion. Also the Haunted Mansion ride is at Disney World in Florida
yes and no....while the Haunted Mansion we know in Disneyland and Walt Disney World came before Phantom Manor, the darker aspect of Phantom Manor was an original concept for the tone of the Haunted Mansion.

I liked the pictures in the stretch room better back then. I don't know why they changed it.
Because they didn’t make sense lore wise
@@jilp2002 What do you mean?
@@theorca3275 They changed the sliding tables because the attraction is located in Frontierland so they wanted to connect it with the land and its history.
History of Phantom Manor after the modification:
The daughter of the patriarch of the manor, Melanie Ravenswood, was courted by four suitors... all of whom met ends as mysterious as they were untimely.
I love Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris just like The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland, Walt Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland (I also love The Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare at Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland)
The appearance of the Phantom Manor reminds me of Bates Motel House from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho 1960 or Overlook Hotel from Stephen King's (Or Stanley Kubrick's) The Shining 1980
Also, the behind story of the manor is very darker and scarier than The Haunted Mansion
The background story of Phantom Manor reminds me of The Phantom Of The Opera, William Shakespeare's Hamlet or Sweeney Todd : The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street
I also love that undead dog from 9:55 to 10:00
Furthermore, the skeletal zombies at 10:24 reminds me of Emily and Elder Gutknecht from Tim Burton's Corpse Bride
Technical question if you dont mind. What camera, lens, and settings are ya using for extreme low light? I have a trip coming up to Disneyland myself.
Bring back skeleton Melanie!
👍
Can I leave some feedback here?
I love the ride's story and music, BUT
the riders and maintenance let it down so bad.
They’re doing a major refurbishment on it currently, so I’m sure it’ll be a way better experience when it opens again!!
I totally forgot this was in paris.
Now im sad. I want to go
What camera did you use?
Can someone add english captions please?
Went on this when I was four I think my family and I were the only ones who weren’t scared 😂
Man I need to learn French just so I can go hear and get the full experience haha
Claire Combs yes do it, beautiful language
I actually prefer this version of grim grinning ghosts. The instruments make it catchier. It's just a shame it only lasts about 20 seconds
I like the way Melanie waiting until her end awaiting her groom
I want an hour of the Bribe’s singing.
Is this based on Gaston Leroux’s novel?
Yess this is inspired by The Phantom of the Opera
11:08 THUNDER MOUNTAIN!!!!!! Looming over us all...
Wish they kept the corpse Phantom, Skeleton Melanie and the Phantom in the mirrors
I remember finding this rlly scary when I was young, even now it still gives me the creeps😂😂😂
The music at the start of the ride reminds me of the Wizarding world of Harry Potter 😂
I wonder if they tried recording Vincent Price narrating in French...
Bobsheaux He spoke fluent French, he could have done it
Bobsheaux They actually did try having him read the lines in French, but he had trouble with it and the tracks were deemed unusable. So they got Gerard Chevalier to do the French narration. I believe there's a video of the recording session floating about.
La meilleure attraction 😍😍😍
So how much of the ride is actually in English? At the beginning a lot of it was French, but the later scenes were English. Apparently some of the ride audio was dubbed for this video, but which language is on the actual ride?
the whole ride is in french, only the singing busts are in english.
Hearing Vincent Price (God rest that great actor soul) laugh in the video is in my opinion one of the best choices by the imagineers at Disneyland Paris and those who thought of the idea should be treated as fucking royalty......oh wait France doesn’t have a good history of royalty
