So, I'm an Army veteran with the typical attitudes and biases of the breed... except where the Coasties are concerned. I'm proud to say that one of my best friends retired as a CWO in the USGG and is now happily double-dipping in DC. I'm from the Pacific Northwest and there's a lot of respect for the Coast Guard around here. There are towns where every single person personally knows someone pulled out of the drink by the USCG. Those guys go out in weather that'd make Santa Claus stay home.
An interesting thing about the Coast Guard is they have the ability to board any vessel in US territorial waters so they are sometimes stationed on Navy ships so they can legally board ships with the assistance of the Navy and the reach and weaponry that the Navy ships provide that the CG does not have.
The Marines don’t care if you have the head valve closed inside of 3 miles! The USA is the best country in the world. And the coasties make it that. No American left behind. ( even stupid ones).
The Coast Guard is an honorable organization. These men and women risk their lives in all kinds of weather conditions, some pretty severe. We here in Alaska really appreciate then for sure!

This occupation, is not for the faint of heart. It takes guts and gumption to do what these trained professionals do. Thank God they are up for each job.

Or maybe explorers went forth and carved a small niche in an inhospitable but bounteous land. And those that came after them learned to survive with backup. So they paid their taxes from the bounty of the land and loved their rescuers. I love American spirit.
That small clinic needs someone to do a fundraiser to help them purchase an Oxygen Concentrator and a good Gas Powered Generator. Perhaps the Coast Guard could own one of each to loan out for emergencies. Addendum: That was very scary about the Towers ... you gentlemen are the consummate professionals. Your training and strict observance of safety protocols serves you well. Yes there was an element of danger but your professionalism diffused that element. So in awe. Hey guys head bands and ball caps do not protect ears! Use a ski cap! 🤣 Just teasing a bit. It is heartwarming how supportive these team members are of each other.

I know these guys would do this for free because you gotta love helping people to take on this kind of responsibility but I do hope these guys are rewarded for their skills. I’ve got mad respect for these guys. To know that nomatter what kind of circumstances you can count on the coast guard to be there to help. I can guarantee that there are a lot of people out there that take unnecessary risks because they know they can call on the coast guard. It’s crazy that people will take risks because of the coast guard but at the same time these guys should hold their head up high because it proves that they are the best. looking at your training, professionalism, great equipment I envy you very much. I would really like in my country - in Poland our rescue services to reach the level you do. We had a guy that took a boat that he had just purchased, used. Took it out on a big reservoir lake, capsized it, swam to shore, went home, cleaned up, and laid down for a nap. So someone called in the boat, the dive team goes out on jet skis, there are white caps on the water, practically knocking the guys off the jet skis. Someone contacts the boat owners, no they sold it. So they track down the new owner who never changed the registration numbers. Didn't call the rangers at the lake to inform them that the boat had capsized, didn't inform anyone. Goes home, takes a nap, while rangers and dive team are risking their lives looking for someone that doesn't even need rescuing. I don't know what the fines were, but were substantial. Make sure you are a responsible boat owner.
I have thought of that but than you have to disconnect it from the basket to reattach it to the hook and to often I’m guessing that little step would be missed. Delaying the transfer.
I love the Coast Guard I also respect what they do. Now I’m also a veteran from the army. The only thing that I know that they don’t show and that is the all the screw ups that they have a number in the branch every branch all have some. I do know why they’re doing it it’s because they want people to join the Coast Guard. I don’t blame them for that either. Being in the service for 20 years I do know because I have seen all the screwup’s myself personally. I do love the Coast Guard because of what they do by rescuing people and also keeping our borders safe on the ocean. They do a great job. I would just like to see not only them but all the branches show the truth. I am a proud veteran what I did. Every member who is been in the military should be proud of what they don’t have accomplished. There is a brotherhood and also sisterhood between all of us. As they say in the service we have each other’s back’s. I will say this too I love this show because I love to see what they do so keep it up please.

Yes. Many people at end stages of hypothermia will actually be found naked or partially clothed. It’s called paradoxical undressing. Your brain starts to lie to you and interpret the extreme cold, as extreme heat.
So this guy goes out knowing he has a pacemaker making him extremely high risk under normal conditions to go into high altitudes that have reduced oxygen and as a result put several people at risk to save him. Im glad he walks away, but should be slapped upside the head for big time stupidity.
Each of those people on the crew are willing individuals that are compelled to help others even at their own risk. One person alone cannot get it done.

As a former Navy Rescue Swimmer, I have nothing but respect for the Coast Guard. USCG does ten times more than most Navy guys ever do.

Can’t provide high flow high concentration O2. Even most hospitals have O2 trucked in.

Being a guardsman must have a mandatory humble attitude, they get dumped on by Army and Marines and everyone else and they never fight back...

They have several different kinds of lights the mag lights are just better in some circumstances
Dick Head , The newer LED MagLights are pretty dang good
The maglites have a smooth reflector that can focus the light into a tight beam, so they're good for seeing things in the distance.
I'm curious what they did with the firearms and how they transfered that with them while being hoisted.
The guys make sure the guns are empty. Then get OK from Captain and put them on board.

So this guy goes out knowing he has a pacemaker making him extremely high risk under normal conditions to go into high altitudes that have reduced oxygen and as a result put several people at risk to save him. Im glad he walks away, but should be slapped upside the head for big time stupidity.
