Great looking scape Bentley and awesome to let your wife get involved she did good 👍🏻 I’ve been watching your livestreams for at least a couple years now maybe longer and I’ve always looked forward to when you had more time to set up some tanks you’ve been wanting to do it’s finally happening!!!!
Congratulations on the marriage. You could have driven up here, I have a pile of river rock outside 😉. I enjoy watching the setup just to see how others do it.
She done a AWESOME JOB, better then what I can come up with but when you can't find or get what you want you just go with your gut with what you have on hand & be happy, till you find what you want & start over again which is always fun to do. happy new year.
Congrats on your “change of Status”. Nice setup! Amazon has some 3.5-5” stones if you search “ultra large river rocks for painting”, I think any larger you’ll have to go find in a river . Maybe for next tank (😉) as what you’ve got there looks great. I also wanted to thank you for the aqua sky videos. Great help in getting my setup to stabilize. Happy New Year to you and yours!!!
Hi Bentley, I think you need to go to a landscape materials place. There's several along sunset (hwy 900) between renton and issaquah. my favorite is Sunset Materials. Their website says they have "cobble" (smooth river rock) up to 10 inches. IDK about cobble but for the smaller 1in rocks they'll sell you a bucket full (Bring your own bucket) for 2 dollars.
Yea, Sunset is pretty rad, but usually you need to buy in a good amount of bulk and the last time I looked their way, the cobble wasn't the super round stuff I'm shooting for (think mexican river stone) - Also I had some time constraints with the wedding - in the future though I'll be making a trip to Sunset for when I get to the point of putting tanks in my garage... one day the dream will happen!
wow. immediate first impression. your video quality looks great. lighting, focus, and resolution look good on my color "calibrated" 27" 4K monitor. your audio is solid also .. thought you might appreciate hearing that .. I'm looking forward to the CO2 part ..
I've used the Brightwell Aquatics laterite powder in my dirted aquarium, and the plants seem to really like it, I want to try their other substrate options one day.
Congrats on hitchen to yer honey .. :) I got my 5 inch large-ish & a couple smaller 2 inch or so river rocks from the bank of a nearby river. I tried using driftwood from there too. unfortunately it was too soft and my plecos tore it up. what a mess. I recently got a sweet hunk of Mopani wood from Petco. I think its a crime to have to pay for driftwood but 20 bucks wasn't too bad and as you probably know this stuff is really hard .. now I'm using some Purigen to help clear up the ice tea look .. Rock On ..
I would have never guessed large river stone would be so hard to find. I’ll have to keep that in mind if I have to scape a tank larger than the 10 gallon I was able to rock shop in my backyard for. I have a question though. Do you struggle with ph changing when you add driftwood or other tannin producing products and if so how do you combat that? Also, I love the way it’s coming together and am looking forward to seeing it planted up.
A little bit, but I will be doing some buffering as we get water in the tank. While the tannins leech and the tank is establishing, I won't have fish, so pH swings are less of a risk.
Unfortunately most of the local water systems here have really steep banks and are more mud/grass than stone. There are some, but I try my best not to mess with local water systems as WA state has some pretty strict laws around their habitats.
@@BentleyPascoe I say pbbbbbbb on their strict laws. Find a nice creek bed or river bank with nice stones and go out at midnight scavenging for some nice stones.
If you want Manzanita, ManzanitaDirect.com is one of the best places price wise. Modernaquarium.com has a pretty good assortment, but you do pay "LFS prices" as I like to call them. Don't be afraid to try Etsy, you'd be surprised some of the selection you can find there, although it can be a little random when the good selection is in. The last place I would check would be tanninaquatics.com - he has an amazing site if you're doing blackwater tanks, but also carries some good driftwood.
Absolutely love the layout of your fiance/wife has done for this tank. Major props to her Tell her keep it up and she'll be a pro and no time
Congratulations on the wedding! Great hardscaping Mrs. Pascoe!
Love the scape! Excited for this series to continue. Thanks Bentley.
Excellent job on the aquascaping! Your wife has a great eye for spacial relationships. I’m quite impressed.
Scape is pretty awesome. Well done.
Congrats to you both, and great teamwork on this scape!
Really nice! Can’t wait to see it planted.
Looks awesome! Can't wait to see it with the plants.
Congrats are in order!

That wood looks amazing. Happy New Year Bentley and all the best in 2023. Thanks for constantly sharing your knowledge.
Wow, this is so beautiful. I can't wait to see it in the future once planted.
Happy New Year to you and your bride!!

Nice hardscape. Congratulations on your marriage!!
I need a tutorial on the differences between all the brightwell soils.
Happy New Year

Local creek or river bank, all the stone you'll ever ever need!!

Hey Bentley! What’s that shelving unit you got there? Happy New Year to you and yours! 😊🎉
It was a custom built one out of an old fish store that shut down. It's all welded tube steel.
Your !WIFE! has a great eye for design! You're lucky to have a partner whose skill set compliments your own.
If at all possible and it makes sense for the scape, can you add in some non java type moss?
👍🏻👍🏻
In terms of equivalency:
Layer 1: Seachem Fluorite Sand
Layer 2: Eco Complete
That seem right?
That's a pretty good equivalent set up!
Any tips for online places to get driftwood and rocks?

@@BentleyPascoe Thanks Bentley
Come out to Monroe I'll get you as many large river stones for free.
If you want river rock, just go to the river.
The rivers near me do not have rocky banks. They're mostly grass/mud
