  • I've done sunrise on the summit of Mt Maroon a few times and regularly go to the cave to sit and look at the view and enjoy the peace and quiet, it's been a favourite place of mine for a long time and holds some very special memories for me.
This time, I joined a group of good friends to do sunrise on the cave, something that has been on my list since my first visit and then up to the summit asking the western ridges route.
I'm glad I waited to do the cave this time with a group of people because it's so much different in the dark as it's off track and obviously being the pitch black of early morning, you can't see any of the usual reference points when I'm doing it during the day without a map.
With sunrise done, we began the long hike and scramble to the summit along the western ridges trail, where one again, we did a different route in sections to the last time I did this route. The Western Ridges Route is line than the tourist route and requires good navigation, fitness and scrambling skills as there is a lot of scrambling to do which also makes this route the most fun route to the summit.
If you've read all this, thanks. Leave a like and a comment, and thanks for watching.
Big thanks once again to Kim for the Don footage, Dan for leading a fun day once again and everyone that came along and made it a great morning singing happy birthday to random people on the mountain.

Thanks mate. that's the first time I've done it from the cave, I usually do the summit for sunrise so it was good for a change. You have to do it in April and May to get the sun right in front of the cave. Mt Maroon is my favourite place to hike and scramble there's so many good spots on there and its such a physical. challange.
      Thanks for watching.

I thought you do the hikes solo. You were standing in the mouth of the mountain. Good drone shots. Who operates the drones?

I do a lot solo, but this is one that is better done in a group. The drone footage was from one of the girls in the group, Thanks for watching Aartoo.

Would love to do this hike... do you have a GPS log of your hike?

GPS can be sketchy once you get past the cave, so you need to be able to navigate and read the terrain a lot for what is the best way to go. There is a trail at times you can follow, but don't rely on it. There are quite a few rock cairns you can use as reference points as you go around, but a lot of people get lost doing this route. This is all off track and has a lot of scrambling as you go.

@@chuzeychuze9905 Thanks for the link... just wanted to check the route as I prefer a map in hand for anything off trail.

Yeah they were at the spot in the video I mentioned at the start. They weren't my keys though. He was so lucky he lost them at the start of the trail on the tourist track before you head in and not somewhere between there and the cave.
