- Legendary Bassist Marcus Miller visited Nigel Williams at Jazz FM. He revealed that he developed his signature sound so that his mother would be able to hear him on on the TV commercials he played on. At the age of Twenty One, Marcus played a bass line that would launch the career of Luther Vandross......
Damn that's a nice Bass.............
A shame he isn`t on the latest Rolling Stone list of greatest bassplayers. Amazing sound and playing..!
Too many phenomenal bassists were not on that list and too many average to mediocre ones were. Duff McKagan but no Victor Wooten or Marcus? Ridiculous.
@@edwardireson6901 Ha ha, true..
@@edwardireson6901 Millions do ... in the music world its a very respected publication
@@Redridge07 Yes Paul McCartney is No.3 best bass player according to that respected publication . Oh dear lol
@@paulsegrue8033 Only the simple find one example to discredit decades of accomplishments and contributions.
That bass intro in this song has stuck with me forever lol
How cool is that?
We love Marcus Miller
One the Greatest Bass lines, and the first song I learned on my Bass! M. Miller is the Man!
Who are the jerks that gave this a thumbs down? To hear the man play it & tell a partical story, this is great. They gotta be trolls, or kids who have NO idea. Trolls are assholes
Marcus is a good friend of mine but he never met me :)
I've met him and he's every bit genuine. A true gentlemen.
@@marklowe7431 he would make a great friend
Unbelievably good!!
What a tone, feel, & touch!
Loved that song since I was 16 years old - what a fabulous track.
Legend!!!!!! Alohas from Maui!
Having a Moment right now...THAT'S MY DUDE!!!!
No one can play it better than Marcus Miller, as he composed the bass line, Forget all the imitators on UA-cam
Yesterday I heard it played by a young girl named Julia from Poland and she does it phenomenally!
Some of the artists she covers apparently shared her videos on Facebook or wherever, I think also Marcus Miller.
@@DerEchteBold Yes I saw her version before. Technically she's brilliant, and a top bass player, but for me she cannot match the feel or the funk, of the original done live by the man himself
@@SongmanKK
Do you, by any chance, know a full live version on YT?
@@DerEchteBold No, hope one turns up though
Those headphones, I almost bought.
Wow....... I was a teen when I use to sing these songs... never imagined it was Marcus with the Funky bass line....
I still singing them! Probably in chorus with you lol Didn't know who Marcus Miller was other than he wrote with Luther or the fact that he was 21! That's ridiculous!! Talent!!
Yes! That is iconic!!! Thank you
YESSIRRR MARCUS!!!!!!
bro to play it note for note off the jump even tho it's yours is just stupid amazing
Go Marcus! Go Marcus! Go Marcus!
Thank you Marcus.Superb
Mr. Clean does it again
At the end, when Marcus is doing those pull-offs and says "Thank you", you know he's already in the world and just wants to keep playing, just about ignoring everything else going on hahaha. The best.
Wooooow
21!
Amazing!!!
This is 'the' song my wife and I realised we like the same musicians and I was lucky enough to explain this story to Marcus back stage at one of his gigs. She had a Luther CD and I heard Marcus playing the bass on it. At that stage I didn't know he played on the album. I mentioned to Marcus I can always tell it's him playing and that was the example.
incredible
Whew!
Magic!
Had to watch twice lol

I warched 5 youtube tutorials on how to play and all of them play it wrong compared to this video here
Yummy Like the first time.
I wonder what is inside Marcus Miller's wallet
Those Fender basses sound a bit weedy. My Yamaha SLB1100s sound better.love that bass line though!
Isn't that an upright bass?
