Dan Blysma kept some of those traits when he took over in February of '09, but took the handcuffs off and let the players be themselves. Unfortunately for Blysma he failed to adjust as teams caught onto the way he liked to play, but Therrien was very important to that cup win in '09.
He help build the stanley cup team in Pittsburgh like no tomorrow, those are the kind of coaches that you need to teach you about hockey in the playoffs and being a beast out there never taking a break.

@@Yonin21 Therrien coached some terrible Habs teams in the 2010s and managed to bring them in the playoffs. All heart and character, a real old school og coach willing to do whatever it takes to squeeze every ounce of blood, sweat and tears from his players. Respect.
The Oilers and Leafs would really need a rant like this in 2021. The Pens were a similar team back then, a bunch of highly skilled young players who needed to be told how it was. Too bad Michel eventually was eventually chased out of Pittsburgh for this rant. One could say he could've won the cup that year instead of Dan Bylsma.

Yes! He got a lot of shit from his teammates, but it was true!.. The best trade for the Pens during that era was Chris Kunitz for Ryan Whitney. That one trade won the cup in '09

The roster is the roster (they need to get rid of Hextall and bring in a real GM).

@@christiangosselin2468 it honestly wasn’t a criticism of Therrien. It was a take on the common trope Steelers fans throw out about Tomlin winning with Cowher’s players, so from that perspective it was glowing praise for Therrien.
I love this rant because he's not putting on an act to motivate his team or distract the media. It sounds like he genuinely dislikes the team and wants to humiliate them. 🤣🤣
He had every right to be upset here. I remember this, The Penguins lost a game like 3-1 to the Edmonton Oilers and the whole team played awful and the defenseman kept getting knocked off the puck, turning it over, etc...

This was the 05-06 season, about a month after Lemieux's last game. Therrien wasn't fired until 2009
They made the final the year before with him. "Jus say'IN". Bylsma was at the right place at the right time but it was still Therrien's team.
