I've followed your channel for a couple of years now. I recently "schmeared" a 128 year old, interior wall of a three story brick. Lots of degradation & cracking. I used Sand & Topping mix, creating fluid/soupy mix to get into the crevices & attempt to create a paintable surface. Amazingly enough, the techniques you offered were the same I used. You guys are awesome.
I've used Quikrete's fiber embedded Quik-wall on old brick. The brink is 150 years old and had a glaze to it. I had to try different things to get it to stick. The first coat just slid off the wall. I ended up doing 2 coats of bonding adhesive and then applying the Quik-wall. It's amazing how good it came it looking.
I’m debating applying that stuff to 1940 brick but I’m worried about it damaging the brick. I was hoping it would add some structural stability lik3 it supposedly does for cinderblock because my brick is holding gravel within a porch but people seem to be suggesting it won’t
Wow! I watch you guys regularly, and was just looking up german schmear, and this popped up -- your videography skills have come so far! (not that this is too bad, just that the current videos are pro!)
I just watched your latest video with the homeowner who worked on Jaime’s hand. So I returned to see a video when he had all his fingers. RIP Jaime’s fingers! 💔
I truly enjoyed! Easy to understand go through this cool way approach. Loved it. Also grew up in Germany so f your video will help me to my perfect because the paste of it is sand colour not red one. I am ripping off my exterior plater with my hummer tool then I was worried how to fill up some cracks or gaps the wall has under so your video covers me 100% thx
Depending on temperature and humidity; I always pre wet the surface before Stucco Coat. If full Stucco is desired; I used Hility gun to nail Metal Lathe to surface. YALL ARE GREAT 👍 ~~ Thank You for your Work and Edits‼️🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑
Quick question, I have the same product as used here. I used some on some test bricks. I have let it dry for a couple days. If I wet the area it darkens a lot. I know it’s darker during application but I thought it should stay white after it drys, even if it gets wet (like rain). Is that not correct? I’m in the south so it’s humid. Maybe it needs more time to dry? Thanks for any help.
Is there color that you can to the Portland cement? And then wipe off more cement to show the mortar joint's. My house is about 100 years old., We got a cost last year to repoint and it was over 15,000.00. My wife and I just don't like the white look. Thanks
Dear Perkins Brothers, the German word you are looking for is "Schmier" which is - as expected - the direct translation of "smear". Best regards from Germany Wolfram
I would have used the grout bag. It goes much faster and you can have another person come behind what you just put up, and scrape it it horizontally and in Xs. That way it doesnt dry with to much before you get a chance to finish. You can always re-wet it, then chisel/scrape off some bricks and brush it off with a brush if it dries to fast, or you dont like a certain area.
eggsoups sadly, thanks to all the chip n Joanna fans out there, shear and ship lap is all the rage; imo it’s right up there with painting a beautiful piece of solid wood furniture then taking a hunk of rough sand paper to it and bragging about it being “ distressed”
good job , the real deal .... would be pretty messy inside doing a fireplace , but that is the real way to do it and you get the true look of das shmeardenohooten frugenlaten (ya I made that up) ...... However I am curious why you used stucco instead of mortar ..... I'm sure it's fine either way , both are pretty much the same thing really , stucco , mortar , grout , all three are pretty much just masonry bonding products ..... PS , it's masonry , not masonary .... may' sun ree , not , may' sun airy , sort of like cavalry isn't calvary ... sorry to nitpick but "masonary" sounds so amateur ..... The steel trowel scrape was definitely the way to go , and ya , wet the heck outta the brick , it soaks up water like a sponge ..... best German Shmear video out there , or as I like to call it , "The Three Stooges Bricked My House" technique , so sad those professional Masons took so much time to lay the brick and create such precision mortar joints a long time ago , and we come along later and just "Shmear it to hell" !!!!! hhahahahahahha ...... it does look good though
This guy would only have gotten as far as his incompetence in halving that bag before he was given his marching orders if he was working for me! How come these people actually want to exhibit their idiocy on UA-cam?
There is a house I want to buy and someone has put a crap on it. I personally hate to look at that ugly stuff. Is there anyone in the world please can you tell me how to remove the stuff easily and get back to beautiful brick. Otherwise I’ll just have to bypass this house and look for another one
That's actually the first video I have seen thats doing it like we do it over here in Germany.. completely correct .. thumbs up..
Sweet! Thanks

I've done two German schmears using white portland cement that I mixed with fine white sand. Worked great.
What ratio did you use?
My dad watches your videos! You guys slay all day!

Love the look 🤩

That mixing of shmear looks similar to the process of making egg noodles by my Gram...who was German. Helpful video!
Can we get a fallow up video! What does it look like after rain months of weather.
Would you recommend to apply any sealer after that? There's not risk to be rain washed?.
Thank you for a quick and helpful video

Great tutorial thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Can I use this if I have spalling brick? I don’t want to have to replace the wall. Can this be applied thick to fill in where brick is missing?
Is there a benefit to using stucco over mortar? Or is there really a difference? Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the video, looks good! Is the scraping all you used to get the end look? Any more pics/video of the rest of the building?
Thanks.. I’ll try to get an updated video on this project. It’s all done and working on the inside now

Pronounced "sh-mear". :) Like how it's turning out. Any chance of seeing the finished product?
I also have seen mortar type S used

Why did you use stucco instead of brick mortar? what are the pros and cons?
Alex Dimitry The simple answer is I could not find white brick mortar available locally.
@@PerkinsBuilderBrothers home depot sells it
What's the first song you use what's it called?
Is this similar to my wife’s Pap smear
Two years ago, boy have things changed
Why did you mix that IN a RUSTY WHEEL BARROW ?
why stucco vs mortar , just curious

probably less waste too
This is an interesting idea... I may try this...
Just a white grout? I cant find this material anywhere and I’m hoping to confirm a good alternative
God I hope this isn't becoming a trend.

No power wash I guess👍
Nice job but you're not really repairing brick you're more like repairing grout work. But it is very informative thank you for posting.
The repair had already been done prior to the video

I would have acid power washed the brick first
Or just power wash

why? why would I spend the money to have my brick look like THAT.
Becase you bought a house cuz it was a great deal and now you are making it look better? Huh?
@@danemmerich6775 thank you
Yeah that looks like trash
Looks dreadful, what a bodge job !
boring
Looks sloppy, could have finish cleaning brick then applied concrete stain to face of brick
DAMN WHAT A SLOPY JOB
