TIP! You can use white paper or cartolina as a reflector to eliminate harsh shadows or to spread the light more evenly 👌
Kahlil Alcala thnx
where would you place the paper, over the light source?
@@claireonlinex "reflect"...
A tip for photographing greyscale art (graphite, charcoal, etc.): Change the color saturation to 0 if your paper looks oddly colored. This will get rid of any white balance issues (white paper appearing yellow from artificial lights, for instance) and the greyscale information of the graphite/charcoal/whatever medium and paper will not be lost. Thank you Intro to Photography class for teaching me that! And thank you for this video!
You saved my life....
Thank you
imo i think this type of video tutorials that aren't so "polished up" are better bc i can understand them better :)
This absolutely helps me. Even as a beginner, you help with your videos. Hope you continue making videos and making art. Love from the Philippines 😘
It also depends with what type of medium you are working with in regards to photo vs. scanning. For my watercolors, I find that scanning is better as it can reduce the watercolor paper texture. If I'm doing a flat lay though, photos are always the easier option! For my drawings I find that photographing is easier so I don't have to scan each little section at a time and then merge them together.
Thankyou so much. I've recently started posting some of my art in Instagram and this was immensely helpful.
Meep Meep same!!
Meep Meep hello, what is your instagram?
What's your @?
Liz Who I can't find it! How many underscores are there in your username?!
Alois Trancy how many underscores are there?
Tip: Artist photograph their finished painting before they varnish.
made this mistake. agree with this comment
@@reya7398 I add a matte varnish to photograph my artwork actually helps get rid of the glare

Nice painting!
This was so helpful! :)
You should make a video on how you do so well on patreon. You're one of the artists that make the most on there
Thank you so so much for making this video! Very helpful! I've been trying to use my soft boxes and struggling. Back to good old fashioned sunlight!!!✨👍🏼

Thanks for sharing this! It's nice to see a process that isn't just Photoshop :)
awesome!
Thus was really helpful. Km bad for taking pics as soon as I'm done my work (usually at night) and relying solely on editing features to make it look right.
I NEEDED THIS IN MY LIIIIIFE THANK YOOOOOU
Finally somebody explain me that photography lighting thing ;p Thank ypu so much !
Loved this video ❣️🇦🇺
Very informative! Wish I had stumbled upon this video before I had posted my art on instagram, but I'll start using your tips from now on!

Thank you Beautiful Soul! So much appreciate the wisdom xxx
great tutorial, my phone was awful to make photos with, but today I got a new one and I hope that finally photos of works will be good ^_^
Thank you so much
I like the casual tutorial. It helps to see the real life scenario. Now I don't need those extra apps to photograph and post my artwork.
OMG I NEED THIS VIDEO
Edit : OMG THANK U IT WAS SO HELPFUL
Thanks!
very useful video, thank you :) besides, I love this painting
You can use the iphone photo app too, the same thing you clicked to crop also has a color selection. I do think ig has a really great selection though.
Thanks for this video!!
Okay so I have a lot of the same routines when I photograph my artwork for instagram. But one thing I do differently is that instead of cropping away the background, I'll often make it be an interesting part of the photo.
For example, I often draw pictures inspired by nature or with nature backgrounds, like a troll in a forest or a mermaid swimming in the sea. So when I'm gonna photograph them, I'll go out and lay my drawings down on a stone or wooden type of surface (or make them stand up against a wall of stone or something). I also like to add some stuff on the sides to mach the motive: some cones if there's a wood inspired drawing, or seaschells if it's a mermaid.
Now this does of course not work for everyone, but I feel like it works really well for me and my art style, so I thought I'd share it ;)
(And btw my instagram is maia_sether if you wanna see examples of what I'm talking about lol)
Thanks, great advice.
Your painting always look professional! ^^ I love this video, hate to admit it, buut I didn't really know about the other IG adjustments... haha
Learned something new today. ^^
Love your work, I watch every video. You're awesome! :)
Question. For prints, do you photograph artworks or scan them?
Kahlil Alcala I think she's scanning them, but I am not sure..
I'm pretty sure she said in a past video that she scans them
Both! :) Depends on the piece :)
notif squad 💕
Thanks, Happy. That was really helpful. Now I just need to know how to get better at drawing and painting... haha... One step at a time, I guess :)
Adobe Lightroom gives even greater control when editing photo images, esp., if you're editing a lot of images. The program allows you to automatically compensate for the lens of your particular dslr model. In addition to having some of the same features as most editing apps, you can edit out dust; adjust brightness/darkenss/saturation in specific areas; edit the metadata that is attached to the image (adding date, time, location, description, tags, title); and if you shoot in RAW, the program will automatically create a copy of the image, so that the original remains untouched, as you edit the copy, ensuring that the original is never lost.
this was very useful! I think it was perfect. I use the same apps but the using daylight in the shade was very helpful as I was always trying to do it with lights lol! I was wondering how you guys uploaded your images of your pieces to your shops. thank you for the help!😄😘
my first word after hearing the music
*CLASSIC*
The casual and laid back version of tutorial isn't bad but I like the more polished and structural tutorials better. Thankyou so much Happy D :)
Direct lighting would be made relfection on shiny surface so it have to be difuse, however your skin protect as well...
It’s winter time and I’m always in school when the sun is out and by the time I get home it’s already kinda dark so I don’t know what to do with the lighting
i'm surprised you didn't mention you should photograph before varnishing the piece ? it's preventing insane glares, that's what i heard from lachrifineart, it's easier to take a clean photo before varnish :)
Thank you for inspiring me
Thank u for exist
Thank u for beeing art
I love u
I was just wondering, would you ever use photos taken on your phone on your website? Or would you recommend a DSLR for that?
Amazing video!!!! I think the real time video would be best! It was quick, simple and straight to the point. Excellent
Great vid. Thanks! Do/can you use the smart phone images to make prints of your artwork?
your voice is so nice to hear its like hannah baker's
Nice tutorial! Yeah shooting at night time is hard. :)
This was super helpful I literally never thought of cropping lmaoooooo
ah thank you for the tips! also i found a pretty good app for adjusting hues contrast and warmth etc, its called instaflash and doesnt cost much in the app store :D it worjs really well! (i swear i dont work for them or anything lol i just like it)
I really enjoyed this type of video! It was really helpful ☺️
Btw idk if you've covered this already but I can't seem to find an answer to it, but do you scan your canvas paintings on some sort of scanner, edit them on photoshop and then turn them into prints? I'd love to know your process of that and what scanner you use because I can't really find how to do that anywhere. It would be really helpful 😊 love your work, keep it up! You're my favourite artist and UA-camr tbh ❤️❤️
Please keep it real. I like this version of your tutorial. 👍 👍 👍 Tfs ~ hugs 💖 💖 💖
do you have a video for making this painting ??
I kept wondering why my photos had a weird glare when I photographed my art. I thought it was my phone. thank you
maybe you could some time show how you set lights in your studio to prevent glare when painting? this would be great
