I have a really old epson scanner (2005 lol) and I recently pulled it out thinking I would try to see if it still worked. I didn't have the drivers but Epson still has the ancient scanner's drivers on their site and it still works like a dream lol. It's a tiny bit slow but it goes up pretty high dpi.
This video helped me not over-spend on a larger scanner! I normally paint on 18x24 paper, so I'll have to stitch my scans together, anyway. I'll try to find the video your mentioned from Kathy about stitching scans together. Thank YOU.
I’m so glad there is such an in depth video made so recently. Only wish the name of the scanner was somewhere on the screen while you’re talking about it so I can remember which one you’re talking about without rewinding the video lol
Hi there from the UK. I am an artist looking to buy a new scanner after using the same one for over 20 years. I think it has seen better days. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and helpful information with us here. I have been looking at the Epson Perfection V600 scanner and was just wondering if the lid can be taken off to enable a large artwork to be placed on the scanner bed? All good wishes, John Twinning, Artist.
Thank you! I have a canoscan lide 120. It’s efficient and portable but doesn’t pick up certain colors well for art and photography purposes, I assume because the light.
I have a lot of black and white documents with a little bit of color in them from highlighting and blue pen. For my purposes a cheap used scanner from eBay worked fine and could still do OK looking art scans. I did though get one with a feeder so I don't have a beard down to my knees when I am done scanning. On a flatbed, 300 sheets can take a long while!
Thanks for the great review. You recommend that a scanner have around 48 bits (colour depth). Is that for the in or the output? When I look into specifications for scanners, both in and output are listed, but for example the new epson v39II has an input of 48 bits and an output of 32 bits.
Hi there. Thank you so much for this video; it helped me a lot. I bought an Epson Perfection V600 Photo, and I'm having so much trouble trying to connect to my iMac. Did yours work ok on Mac OS Sonoma?
Hi there! Thanks so much for your time and consideration on this topic. I am wondering, do you have a preference for the editing program, once the image is scanned? Thanks!
I use photoshop, but depends on how much editing is needed, you can use cheaper alternatives that don’t require subscription like Affinity Photo or Procreate for the iPad.
Thank you for this video, it’s hard to find info/reviews on a great scanner that deals with the issues of textured watercolour paper. Having said that, I’m wanting to buy the Epson V600 (I currently have the V370) but have been advised by Epson in Australia that it’s discontinued. Would you guys know if any of the newer Epson models 700, 850 behave similarly in terms scanning watercolours? Cheers
Can you please provide the link to the video you mentioned about stitching several images together for larger artworks? I wasn't able to find it. Thank you for all the great videos!
@@EasySundayClubthat is a great video and will be very helpful! I was wondering if you had information on how to scan art that is larger than the scanner and stitch it together.
Okay, so I wish you would mention if you can connect a flatbed to a tablet… just got the Epson v39… there’s no way to connect flatbed to it 😢 so next question, what’s the least expensive laptop I can connect it? I’m not a digital artist, just want to scan my sketches and charcoal drawings. How about a Chromebook’s?
Hey, would you still recommend Epson Perfection V600 for someone who definitely wouldn't use it for photography, but artwork only? Are there any other scanners of similar quality, but without photo film 'holders' and hence possibly lower in price? Thank you
Hi there! Little late to the party but I was wondering if there is an alternative to the Epson v600 as it unfortunately is no longer available in my country. The only one still available is the v850 but I think that might a bit too much of a powerhouse (and it’s price tag). Would really appreciate any recommendations, so thanks in advance! Edit: I just found a couple of Epson v600 scanners available in a neighboring country. Their current prices are between €700,- and €900,- excluding shipping 😅
@@EasySundayClubyeah that’s crazy 😅 I read somewhere that the v600 is discontinued in our country (maybe also the countries around us), hence why the price is going op so drastically for the last models available. The v39 is on sale for about €105,- but I don’t know if it is good enough to scan photorealistic artwork with it. Which other mid tier scanners are you referring to? I believe I only see the Epson v600 so far 😊
@@Evita11.02 That's a bummer they're discontinuing there. There's also Canon Lide 400 mentioned in the comments which scans up to 4800dpi but I'm not sure how it compares to the v39.
The Epson Perfecion scanners look great, but one is from 2009 and the other from 2014. Is there any other newest model? I think technology must have improved a lot since then
I have a question! what is the best scanner to pick up neon colors? I like to use a lot of bright neon colors but when I try to scan them they end up looking blah. like neon pink ends up looking like strawberry milk or pastel pink. :^[ help plz.
What about the Plustek OpticPro A320E? Ive read al sorts of reviews, but the bad ones could very well be user error. I dont think anyone has used it with Vuescan fx.
I have the Epsom v600 and it doesn’t ask dpi it asks ppi, is there a specific ppi you recommend using for digital files you plan to print? Or how do you figure dpi from ppi?
i used to have a v600 and i sold it for basically nothing. it was before i got into drawing more and i had no use for it. now im looking at flatbeds again and i regret it
the flatbed scanners probably won’t work since there will be too much light leakage… you may need to photograph your artwork, or someone else here knows a better option?
the canon lide 400 is a 4800dpi scanner and it's fantastic. pretty much the same body as the 300.
So appreciate your intelligent comments. The integrity of your opinions so clearly articulated is appreciated. From Australia by the way.
Wow we really appreciate your support from Australia and your kind words, Ruth!
Thanks so much for this video. Totally reinforced what I was thinking about the Epson V600!

What would you recommend for scanning artwork that’s one on tiles? Does the scanner lid have to fit around edges? Do they vary in depth ?
Question on the Epson V600. What is the color depth ability?

Can the Epson v39 be used face down onto a large 30x30 canvas painting? Would the machine still work if it’s face down?

Will the epson Perfection V600 create scan that produce high quality prints for selling and can also go on clothing?
Yup I’ve used it for both.
