Casomorphines (spelling?) in dairy, is super calming, and addictive. I have am awful allergy to dairy, been veg for a decade, and still want cheese sometimes. Crazy. Breathing, or dairy... definitely addictive.
Bless her heart, you can see shes really making an effort here despite her serious, deep rooted phobia. A phobia is called a phobia because it is irrational, and 9 times out of 10 the person who suffers from it knows its ungrounded and illogical but it doesnt make a damn difference if your brain induces anxiety and fear when encountering triggers. Its some kind of maladaptive learned response and it can take years of fighting to overcome it. I think she made a lot of progress here, hopefully she sticks to forcing herself out of her comfort zone.
If she can eat a roast dinner, she can eat other foods. How self indulgent is she!! She needs to feed her kids a much more balanced diet. I feel sorry for her husband. She also needs to expand their vocabulary
Honestly if I were her husband I would have divorced her a long time ago. Imagine cooking for the family every single day and then your wife commenting 'ew horrible' and literally acting like she's gonna puke even though she didn't even try it properly. That's so fucking annoying.
I do think that she has a problem. But yes maybe she could tone down the 'ew horrible' . I do hope that is more for the camera. I get her aversiom will have her maybe doing things automatically but yeah.
Her husband is obviously more mature and empathetic than you and he knew what he was getting into when he married her as she's always had that eating habit. No need for him to take it personally as it's not like she would eat pasta elsewhere but not his in particular.
Now you see what happens when you don't make your babies and toddlers try all types of foods and restrict them from choosing things that they get comfortable with. Imagine that, parents being parents and not their kids best friends.
I don't understand why they plunge people in to the deep end of the pool to change their diet. Why not use cheese to introduce Kate to new foods by combining them, rather than cutting cheese out altogether? Cheese pairs well with a lot of different types of food.
For anyone criticizing her: this is a food aversion. It has nothing to do with her being picky or whatever, it’s a mental issue. People with severe food aversions like her would literally rather starve themselves than have the food that they have an aversion to(that isn’t an exaggeration, either). Sometimes it’s tied to other mental health issues like PTSD or anxiety, but is more commonly seen in people with developmental disorders like autism.
I wished they'd tried seasoned meals rather than straight veggies in a pan. Might of made it easier to transition I think. Cheese is hard. I shovel cheese in my mouth but I just like food any type really. These videos do help me want to try new things!!
It upsets me when I see these shows, but it helps me out. Ever since I was a kid, I've always been a picky eater, but I don't limit myself with my food. Seeing people that have the same thing everyday is sad, but empowering me at the same time. Because I always thought that my diet was the worst, but also because I know that I can always try more/ new food
I'm so glad that mom included her daughters on this journey, but most importantly didn't force them, and was always encouraging. Had she been mean to the youngest then she would have started to develop her own mental issues with food.
LOL, have you not seen this show before? I've seen almost every episode of Freaky Eaters and they shun away from ANY seasoning AT ALL. They give them everything unseasoned, usually in it's natural state. So as to not overwhelm the person's palate. Then they start introducing cooked food or smoothies. This is old news and not really her fault.
My mum was prepared to not let us eat stuff, like I won't eat cauliflower, so she'd make broccoli for me. My sister used to not eat liver or normal shaped chips, so mum started cutting them by hand and give her "crisps". Now my sister eats basically everything. My parents never made a fuss about not eating something either.
Right? My sister keeps saying she won't eat food other people make, but if we have something processed (chicken patties, hamburgers, corndogs) she'll make a large portion for herself, and once those are all eaten up, she'll magically change her mind.
that show literally came after this one..... come on.... you can't "miss" her when she is from the american version of the program that was BASED OFF OF THIS SHOW and came years afterward, LOL....
because thats not real cheese if it is sliced im guessing you mean pre packaged "american" cheese that is waay too processed. I like cheese and the "american cheese" but american cheese is very very processed
@Aced By Chase Uhhhh idk where you live but the cheese section literally has every type of cheese pre-sliced for you. Or you know you can slice off a piece of cheese with a knife lol.
@@betteryourlife865 I live in a very small town so maybe my selection is different but it's literally only American in slices all others are in blocks of cheese.
Her skin at the end looms so good. Its glowing, looks so much healthier, you can just see the difference. And she just looks like she has so much more energy and joy with eating so much better. Wow, what a difference. So happy for her. Cant get ovet how much better her skin looks!!!
Her Mum's Sunday roast did look yummy. And I noticed she also had a spice rack, which suggests she enjoys cooking tasty meals. Shame she didn't manage to get her daughter to be more experimental. I think this is the first episode I've seen where they didn't ask the parents what went wrong.
This is actually a normal response mechanism that's gone out of control. They say it only takes ONE bad experience with a food for you to avoid it for the rest of your life. Humans are REALLY finicky with food, and it's because it's such a dangerous thing. Put the wrong thing in your mouth and you could die. Because she's been so used to eating the same things over and over, her brain has created lists of "safe food" and "unsafe food". And it's doing everything it can to STOP her from eating anything from the "unsafe" category. She really can't help it, it's just something she needs to work past by slowly and painfully re-teaching her brain to deal with food.
I completely get why may seem very dramatic to someone who has had no psychological issues with food, but... that is merely because they can't truly fathom what it is like. And when presented with a comparable example as to what it would be like, it's often denied that it is comparable. Such as someone in another comment suggesting it is similar to how a regular person would feel about having to eat a bug or heck, actual puke. But yes folks, THAT is comparable to how her body physically revolted against food. Go to any country where they do eat bugs for a delicacy and they think tourist from the west are acting dramatic too for pulling a disgusted face at them eating a fat juicy worm. You can't ever know what something is truly like for someone else, but you can at least try to understand it a little bit more instead of immediately judging.
I love it that she feels no guilt about ruining her two daughters perception of food and deprives a loving husband of company at table and complicating everyones lives. Cheese trumps guilt
True! I hate people who comment food is disgusting. If they don’t like it just say you don’t like it. Other people are eating those food you call ‘disgusting’ woman!
She's mentally ill; she can't fucking help it. And no, sometimes these mental blocks can get so extreme that you'd literally starve rather than eat it. This has actually HAPPENED on this show before; there was a child who literally went over a week without eating once because his mother was trying to make him eat other food. She ended up breaking when he became so weak he couldn't move from the couch. Don't talk about shit you clearly don't understand.
Poor people who have food insecurity can still have disordered eating just like anyone else. There’s not some imaginary population of people who are so poor that they’ll eat anything.
Eating disorders are legitimate and treatable with therapy. They are sometimes caused by events occurring early in life. Socioeconomic status is not related to the rate of occurrence of eating disorders. Mental illness doesn't care about financial status, gender, or education, and it will touch nearly every family in some way. The stigma some may still attach to this is archaic and not beneficial to any cause. Mental illness is the same as physical illness. The only distinction is that it is a malfunction of the most important organ in the body, the human brain. In some cases it can be as simple as a chemical in-balance within the body causing this. If anyone is interested I can find direct references for this information. There is a wealth of information on this subject I would be happy to link for you. Here are some general places to start: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ www.nimh.nih.gov/index.shtml www.mentalhealth.gov/

Her constaht laughing when they're trying to be serious is childish and irratating and not taking the process serious. I honestly think she's stuck with a childlike state of mind and behaviour patterns to act the way she does and then it rubbed off on her children. I imagine her horrific skin and aging is down to malnutrition.
A lot of people laugh when they feel uncomfortable or on the spot. They were confronting a lot of issues about her and laughing at yourself is one way to feel less defensive of yourself when being critiqued on such a fundamental level of who you are.
Yes, the fact that you're not starving to death does NOT in fact mean you have no problems. What of it? Just because someone else is suffering "more", that doesn't mean first world problems aren't valid and real to the people having them. How would you like me telling you YOUR problems don't mean shit and you're being a whiner baby? Also, I wouldn't call literal mental illness a "first world problem". Those definitely exist outside the first world.
@@LordofFullmetal When you have abundance of food but call it disgusting and push it away. Thats self harm thats their problem. Starving to death is definitely a real problem. Having food to eat but choosing not to isnt a problem
Well, part of her brain was stuck in primary school albeit subconsciously, thus she was still a kid in that sense. It was repression and irrational anxiety and thought patterns that magnified as the years went on.

Didn't anyone tell the British that life isn't fair? How did they get so neurotic. I also agree that saying it's "mingy" was not an option when I was a kid. These kids have been indulged.
I think it’s just that tv in the uk is extremely sensationalist. Which is not super surprising, they know what will get views. I grew up with Sky TV, there is a lot of pride in British TV, as it tends to focus on reality more. Look at British soap operas vs. American ones- there’s no Vaseline on the lenses and the actors look like real people, not just beautiful people. Hell, look at Skins versus the awful American remake. I love learning about people versus overproduced set up “reality tv”....don’t get me wrong, I’m American and love love love TV here too, there’s just some things the UK does better, and shows like these and especially ones like Embarrassing Bodies are among them. Even if it seems like ooh ahh, here’s a freak show, I still think the UK approaches things better in terms of hearing the people out and getting them help. The world is neurotic right now in general, we are not equipped for the stress and overwhelm of modern life, hence the rise of depression and mental illness. It’s important that people get help, and at least the there’s the NHS, which the US can only dream about.
The youngest daughter, you can see she still struggles. She looks like she is pouting at the end and not liking what she has to eat. The older daughter embraces it more. Still good going everyone.
What really annoyed me was the general rudeness of this woman and how her girls mimiced her behaviour. How her girl kept saying about needing a gas mask to make a pizza and how food is "minging" was just appalling. I wouldn't put up with that kind of attitude.
Sad to see that they’d still let the youngest daughter still order French fries after the experiment. You can see how much she follows and pays attention to her mom’s eating habits at 51:44
Actually watching the whole meal after 51:44 you can see how bad the youngster daughter is with food and how much she needs to be “forced” to eat other foods. Stop giving her the fries and cheese. She obviously adapted during the experiment.

I think she would of more success than this if she had a very good hypnotherapist working with her to get rid of all those major food aversions she has. This really showed through just how much parents eating habits affect their children.
She created monsters with her avoiding her horrible compulsive behaviour, and dangerous diet for years was almost bordering abuse, good thing she got help.
Seems like she is suffering from an Eating Disorder in a non traditional sense of the term. EDs are mainly about control, this lady doesn't want to 'taint' her body with what she has associated as a painful or horrible experience(her childhood schooling experience). No matter how much she is just told to eat, it's not that simple. Doesn't matter if in this case it's not about weight issues. It has all the other signs such as major anxiety to the identification of 'safe and non safe' foods to eat. A lot of similarities which are interesting and seems like a way to cope with trauma or major stressors. I wouldn't say this is just a picky eater or that she is selfish but she has to try for the sake of her own health and that of her kids.(how in the hell did she survive on her trips??:)
I felt bad for the kids, until one of them started referring to everything as "mingeing". Almost as bad as the guy who claimed every vegetable smelled, tastes, looked, sounded, and felt "green".

Sam Pickles she was doing so well at the end!
If she can eat a roast dinner, she can eat other foods. How self indulgent is she!! She needs to feed her kids a much more balanced diet. I feel sorry for her husband. She also needs to expand their vocabulary
ELaine Downes he just needs man up and be firmer with her and their spoilt kids, serious growing up needed it's pathetic
She's probably just scared of new tastes
Honestly if I were her husband I would have divorced her a long time ago. Imagine cooking for the family every single day and then your wife commenting 'ew horrible' and literally acting like she's gonna puke even though she didn't even try it properly. That's so fucking annoying.
Dimitra Fnrd her husband is the saddest husband I ever seen lol
But he loves her soooo
It's definitely annoying.

So she can't use her comfort food (cheese) to mask the taste or texture of other foods, I reckon.
Leafeatinggirl They could have still eased her into cheese-combined food then after she got used to that food she would be given without the cheese.
I thought maybe like a mac & chesse
For anyone criticizing her: this is a food aversion. It has nothing to do with her being picky or whatever, it’s a mental issue. People with severe food aversions like her would literally rather starve themselves than have the food that they have an aversion to(that isn’t an exaggeration, either). Sometimes it’s tied to other mental health issues like PTSD or anxiety, but is more commonly seen in people with developmental disorders like autism.
she hated school which apparently caused her weird food habits yet she works as a classroom assistant? lol ok
I wished they'd tried seasoned meals rather than straight veggies in a pan. Might of made it easier to transition I think. Cheese is hard. I shovel cheese in my mouth but I just like food any type really. These videos do help me want to try new things!!
They didn't even put any dressing or something like that on their salad
It upsets me when I see these shows, but it helps me out. Ever since I was a kid, I've always been a picky eater, but I don't limit myself with my food. Seeing people that have the same thing everyday is sad, but empowering me at the same time. Because I always thought that my diet was the worst, but also because I know that I can always try more/ new food
I'm so glad that mom included her daughters on this journey, but most importantly didn't force them, and was always encouraging. Had she been mean to the youngest then she would have started to develop her own mental issues with food.
I think they’d have a better experience if she actually knew how to cook...sorry😅...holy mackerel!! neva had this many likes ty x💕💕

LOL, have you not seen this show before? I've seen almost every episode of Freaky Eaters and they shun away from ANY seasoning AT ALL. This is old news and not really her fault.

Per 55:32, this is from 2007. Wonder how they're doing now, 12 years later.
When I was growing up, I had to eat whatever was put in front of me or go hungry. Her finnicky eating drives me insane.
We had it the same in the house. I had prefered to go hungry. This is a condition, not a choice.

She’s really over dramatic about trying different foods other than cheese.
Come on, don't be this judgemental!
She just couldn't help it!
She has an eating disorder. That is what it does to you.
they all are
I completely get why may seem very dramatic to someone who has had no psychological issues with food, but... that is merely because they can't truly fathom what it is like.

I love cheese but i wouldnt ever do this to my family or especially being a mom....to my little girl....AND I LOVE CHEESE!!!!
I don't care what she eats but she has brainwashed these poor children.
this is what happens when a person has the option to refuse food. that is simply unheard of to so many people who never get enough to eat of ANYthing.
And your ignorance is what happens when people don't understand the complexity of these issues, even when they're literally laid out in front of them
Poor people who have food insecurity can still have disordered eating just like anyone else.

Anybody has the option to refuse food. Or did you imagine literally holding her mouth open and shoving it into her esophagus?
29:51 it’s obvious daughter will absolutely copy everything her mother does in diet.
51:47 daughter is just waiting for her mother to be discussed by it. If mother won’t change, daughters nether.
Ever thought that it's a coping mechanism for her anxieties surrounding food?
She has an eating disorder ffs.
So much privilege. Such first world problems.

Yes, lets judge a WHOLE country based on ONE video. Very clever. Americans, right? Always judgmental
@@tessicat I am very grateful for the NHS i need jaw surgery without the NHS would cost me £90,000 as said by a specialist
