I was born in '62, and I've loved this movie ever since I was a kid, and it's still one of my all-time favorite movies. It makes me really happy to know that so many others love it as well.
This is one Fabulous film. The cast, outstanding. John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Victor Mclaughlin, Barry Fitzgerald. Awesome, you'll will Love film, great storytelling movie. Thank 🙏 for all you did to get this made, Mr. John Ford.
Any picture with John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara in it is my favorite pictures. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched The Quiet Man but I watch it every time it comes on.
A wonderful movie! Superb acting by all actors with speaking lines (ditto, the non-speaking roles). John Ford was at his best here, and his best is always superb, in my opinion. Leonard Maltin did a great job---as he always has---with this background story to The Quiet Man. Thank you all!
I'm 65 and I have seen a lot of movies of all kinds. A few are my favorites and this one of my most favorite. I don't watch it often so I can save it for when I need to see it. And it's the same experience each time. And I've been watching it most of my life.
Brilliantly made film with not a dud performance by anyone. For me Victor Mclaglen and Barry Fitzgerald as Michaeleen both put in superb performances that made the film for me, their time on screen is mesmerising, but so many supports roles were cast to perfection. It's a film I never tire of watching and is also one of the Dukes best. Films are no longer made like this so we must treasure them and make sure the next generations are not denied seeing these masterpieces.
It made me proud to be Irish it was a great movie in this documentary was even better I learn stuff about the movie that I would never had known you did such a great job from the bottom of my heart thank you
It is a beautiful tribute to Ireland and its traditions. 🎉 Maureen O'Hara regilarly helped to type up the scripts and revisions. Which was amazing on her part. And she was not paid very much money.
One of my all-time favorites. I've always thought the profile of Barry Fitzgerald in his wagon and smoking his pipe would have made a perfect Norman Rockwell painting.
A St. Patrick's tradition in my family (grown and scattered as they are) watching "The Quiet Man" in honor of my late wife .....a Carroll, and Irish through and through.
A co-worker of mine was a child growing up in the town where the film was shot. He told me he is one of the children in the background in a couple of scenes. Unfortunately he did not tell me which ones. One of my favorite lines in the movie is when the woman hands John Wayne the switch and says: HERE'S A STICK TO BEAT THE LOVELY LADY WITH.
Love all the Wayne/O'Hara movies with "The Quite Man" as my favorite. No rooten-tooten shootem-up (which is exciting in itself), just a great and endearing "Real Man" story of fighting for true love with a "Real Woman" (literally, sometimes). Read the original short story, which very divergent from the screenplay. Though, I believe Ford and writers painted a beautiful yarn by creatively embellishing the tale. It's too bad the edited sceens were not considered to be preserved back then. A 'Director's Cut' or 'Extended version' would be highly acclaimed today, giving John Ford the final satisfaction over the studio execs of the time.
Prior to Covid, we took a train from Dublin to Galway. Cong, where many of the shots took place, is north of Galway and a taxi took us. We spent the night at an Inn in Cong (not a great number of amenities so be forewarned). Ashford Castle is a short walk from Cong and a wonderful place to tour. However, any serious tours of Ashford are for their guests (rates are pricey). If you are a Quiet Man fan then a visit to Cong is well worth it.
Is Covid some new era? Some new time measurement? Just give a fucking number, year because not only pandemics happen all the time, they also take time differently in each place.
Yes have done the same sort of trip found all of the shooting scenes even the ruined cottage which was disappointing ,marss cross , quite man cafe, etc etc one of my bucket list ,love John Wayne sad what they are doing to him over a interview from 1971 but he will always remain iconic and a star
@@metal87power not quite sure what your on about and why do you have to use foul language to get your point across , grow up, real men don't need to swear
Very touching realtionship between Ford and Wayne who said things years ago that are now coming true in the declining nation of the USA who only DJT will save. As an Irishman, I loved the Quiet Man, and I'm sorry I can't write anymore as I am filling up with emotion.....! except to say that Maureen O' Hara came from my own town, Dublin, and she was devastatingly attractive! God Bless it all!
By my reckoning, Hollywood has produced two great movies with Irish themes, tho there are others, these stand out to me. 'The Quiet man', frankly a charming, elegant movie, and the 'Luck of the Irish' with Tyrone Power and Anne Baxter. One with a far more whimsical theme and the best Leprechaun (Cecile Kellaway) there ever was! Cecile Kellaway defined what a Leprechaun should always be, tho a bit larger than the myth. ua-cam.com/video/qHssrqqLaHQ/v-deo.html
Can anyone explain why the narrator as well as the documents refer to Maureen O’Hara’s daughter as a “newborn” and a “baby”. Her daughter would have been 7 at the time they were filming.
does anyone have any information on the portable steam engine used during the filming of the film and does it still exist or has it long been scrapped?
The late, great maureen o'hara related a true story of her dearest friend,"the Duke". She says she was 'chauffeuring' an overly inebriated bff. She says, he said, "pull over"! Mr. Wayne goes to the door. When the owner opened the door and saw "the Duke", he was dumb struck. Duke said, "you gotta drink"? "Hell yes!"
Kind of curious - how much more (beyond the $10 film rights option) did John Ford pay per his promise to "The Quiet Man" author, Maurice Walsh when the film was made?
This is one of my favorite movies. Love this movie - a classic. One of only two John Wayne movies that I actually like. That said, this can not be considered a great movie. It is a shame that the budget was so tight.
It would be nice to have a.i. 4k this treasure. I have a decent blue ray attempt but it isnt much better then the original. Its time modern science did something useful.

A delightful reminder of a wonderful uplifting film.

I absolutely love this movie.
One of the greatest of all time .
My ex sister-in law, now deceased, was John Waynes nurse back in the 70's. He had a nick name for her and she said he was extremely nice.
It is a beautiful tribute to Ireland and its traditions. 🎉 Maureen O'Hara regilarly helped to type up the scripts and revisions. Which was amazing on her part. And she was not paid very much money.
I LOVE this gilm. It always has been my no 1 film and always will be.
Maureen O'Hara and John Wayne together on screen WOW
The Quiet Man is one of my favourite films, the scene at the beginning where he asks for directions is hilarious
Beautiful, thank you ☘️🇮🇪❤️
Wonderful film one of Fords best
This is a wonderful video... needs and deserves more upvotes!
Great film, captures a period in time, long since gone,...greetings from Ireland.
One of my favorite films ever!!

Timeless classic
Went there recently...❤❤❤❤ I adored Maureen O'hara

The music from The Quiet Man always reminds me of my parents
My favorite movie by far. I have it on video tape and would love a DVD copy. With this presentation as an extra.
The first scene where maureen is sheparding the sheep is one of my all time favs. One would have to be a brick not to feel the energy.
It is my favourite John Wayne Film.
Excellent movie 🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥

Best John Wayne motion picture ever, in my humble opinion.
Only two above the quiet man,Rio bravo at 2 and true grit at no1 for me anyway
Sweetly nostalgic... ridiculous movie but it is hard not to love it ...
I loved this movie. Id love to go to Ireland.
Good man Jesse , great work .
McLaglen was the star of the film for me and had actually been Heavyweight boxing Champion of the British Army !
My favorite movie.
Magnificent!
During filming of the scene where John was dragging her to her brother John accidentally broke her wrist.
wonderful....thanks.
LONG LIVE THE DUKE AND THE GREAT MAUREEN OHARA.
2023 anyone? Festus from Gunsmoke was in here as was all 4 of John Wayne's kids.
"Sir! Here's a good stick to beat the lovely lady"!

It's so obvious which shots were done in the studio and which weren't. So obvious as bad CGI.
Best film.
Please reupload my foreign VHS Openings I am doing on VK to youtube thanks.
The movie was made in 1952 , so why do we have to rent it
Why should you not have to pay to rent it?
Greed
Is the movie yours?
Buy the Blur-Ray.

Today it would be called an example misogynist attitudes of the period. Enjoy this movie, there'll never be a film again of it's ilk.
O'Hara's didn't seem to mind it.
@@metal87power Your're correct. It seems she often enjoyed a spanking from John Wayne on several movies.😈
What's the music at the end?
This is one of my favorite movies. Love this movie - a classic. One of only two John Wayne movies that I actually like. That said, this can not be considered a great movie. It is a shame that the budget was so tight.
❤
Who is the man in the bar reading the new paper?
Sam Harris........General.

Lonesome dove
Maureen Oharas new born or infant was born June 1944. So this film was shot in 1951 ... someone not doing their homework. She only had one child.
Too bad I don't know where to find this movie to watch the whole thing. My BFF does not want to see any Irish movie even though he is Irish!
It is available on Pluto TV.
[2024 edit: The film can also be seen on Amazon Prime Video.]
Too bad for him
