Dude, I just watched 4-5 of your 'What ifs' videos. I think you should be more reserved with your prediction and put more calculation about balance of power into your scenario.
For example, how the tsarists Russia could conquer all of China?
They can't just start a war of conquest and take huge territory without repercussion from another great powers.
These great powers are rivals and they can really become thorn in your side. They can supply your opponents with cash, weapon and, if necessary, intervene directly.
Remember Crimean war? That's exactly what will happen if Russia push beyond Manchuria.

      @ihl0700677525 3 роки тому

@@ggkphilosophy The conquest of India was a gradual process taking about half century to complete. The British face fierce competition from the Dutch and the French. Other European powers (France in particular) supplied local Indian rulers with weapons and advisors to stem British expansion there.
Look, my point is, 18th century (onward) European powers work with *balance of power* in mind. Unlike the time when a state/empire led by a great leader could rise so spectacularly (e.g. the Greek under Alexander the Great, or the Mongols under Genghis Khan), the 18th century Europeans had a system of alliances designed specifically to keep each other from getting too strong.
Austrian war of succession, Spanish war of succession, and Napoleonic wars are the examples how this system works. Also Google about planned "coalition" against expansionist Britain during the Boer war. Several major powers shocked by British blatant aggression in Africa almost form a coalition to crush her.
Btw, by mid 19th century (which is the setting of this video), China was *NOT* out of reach for other powers. At that time, Britain, France, United States, Spain, and the Netherlands all have their own colony/outpost/interest in the far east.
Britain could arguably mobilize its military assets much faster than Russia in the event of major conflict in the far east. Transporting armies from India to China was easier than moving armies from western Russia across Siberia (which is one of the reason why Russia was defeated by Japan in 1904).

While is probably too simplistic to suggest it was all about saving plucky Belgium for Britain, I also find it very improbable that Britain would have sat back because Russia was more powerful. They would have picked a side, and the Entante Cordial means it would probably have been the one they chose in our time line, a victorious German Empire controlling all if Europe would have been seen as too great a threat.

I strongly disagree. If Russia was more successful in the Far East as a consequence of Japan remaining backwards it would spend its expansionist energy keeping those areas subjugated. Meaning they would be less focused on the Balkans, particularly Serbia and so would probably reach a tacit agreement with Austria and Austria would invade Serbia ending that issue before any possible assassination even happened. People forget Germany, Russia and Austria were allies and in this world that Alliance would hold as there would be no irreconcilable differences between Russia and Austria which caused a rift with Germany picking Austria over Russia, which forced Russia to ally France and oh la la la WW1 time.

Britain joined the war because of Belgium. They had a contract with Belgium in that if it was attacked Britain would liberate it. That was done so it could serve as a buffer state between France and Germany. Germany would still go through Belgium and that would still bring Britain into the war.

Neutral Italian states, more Germans at Frances door, Austro-Hungarians would've strong-armed the Northern states into letting them through to the Frank's flank or a more disorganized Italian front is quickly overrun.
It's a stretch but I'll say the French collapse By 1916-17, the Brits were stubborn as heck, but unless the Entente could pull off a Normandy in the 1910's I don't see them coming back from this.

2:30 *neocolonial* conditions not precolonial. The difference is that, today, crippling warfare and primary resource exploitation is taking place to the profit of the large foreign enterprises, which means today, _"these africans"_ are much more like former slaves in 1900 US with no right of movement and no job opportunities even though they require them to live because they don't owe any land anymore.
Back during precolonial times, people lived in varied village or nomadic lifestyles with communist-like production ethics, without "chiefs".
    So that's a big difference.

I stopped the video at after the WW1 bit. Britain would not have completely stayed out even if they didn't join in. France and Britain had a thing going. And what is your evidence that France would team up with Russia for vengeance? What ties do they have? They political scene back then was different from nowadays. They might want war, but they didn't declare war out of pure vengeance because there was a lot of backroom dealing back then. I can maybe see the two being allies but their capacity to wage war would entirely depend on the penalties they suffered at the hands on the victor's which can hardly be predicted. Alliances were huge back then but more fragile then they are now based off military, political, and ethnic ties instead of cooperation, goodwill, and economic benefit. 2/3 of those criteria don't exist between France and Russia around WW1.

In this this timeline you claim that Japan never industrialized, yet you also state that Japan is occupied and becomes a client state to Russia. Once Japan is under Russian influence, the Russian would no doubt force industrialization on the Japanese since they would never accept a large client state that wasn't as technologically advanced as they were. The bottom line is that Japan would've industrialized under foreign pressure no matter if it was American or Russia. So Japan still would've industrialized in the end.
