  • The 812 Competizione is the most powerful pure combustion road car Ferrari has ever made, but do its staggering figures translate into driving thrills? We'll have to wait a little longer for a thorough drive, but Adam Towler briefly experienced it first hand at Ferrari’s Fiorano circuit to find out.

I have been in/built many tuned cars, but they will never have the same feeling I get imagining driving the high end stuff.

    Something I've always wondered - when the rear steer breaks on a car, is the car completely hooped? I imagine a mid-corner break would be fatal.

    • @c0c0asauce
      @c0c0asauce 2 роки тому +1

      I think in a worse case scenario most systems would get stuck in a poor alignment. There aren't many systems like the Delphi Quadrasteer which can turn the rear 15 degrees. I also think it only uses that range at low speed. Half a degree of rear toe in can makes a car not drive straight so I don't think they need much range in the rear steer for high speed driving. They are almost always designed to default to a netural position at the first sign of an issue.

    You know what's crazy? Take into account a lower max power RPM (8400 vs 9250), smaller engine size (5.5L vs 6.5L), 8 vs 12 cylinders, AND a compression ratio that is a full point lower (12.5 vs 13.64), and the new C8 Z06 V8 is, by my napkin math, 5-10% MORE efficient at making power than this engine is. Ferrari should be making 900hp out of this screaming V12 with that insane compression, not 819.

    • @pmwaffle9348
      @pmwaffle9348 2 роки тому

      Not completely true. While the displacement is technically larger on the 812, each cylinder is only ~0.54l whereas the z06 has much larger cylinders, with each being ~0.69l. Larger cylinders help create much more torque, which translates to higher power at lower revs.
