- This video shows my Aeronaut Triple Neo Thermic in action. The Triple Neo can use three different wings with the same fuselage. Besides the Thermic wings I also have the Speed wings. No surprise that the already quite good thermal hunting performance of the Speed wings has reached a new level with the Thermic wings. But which one do I like most? Just watch to see my conclusion.

Wingspan: 2580mm
Length: 1200mm
Wing area: 47 dm2
Weight (AUW): 1305 g (in my configuration incl. approx. 15g for a GPS Logger and 31g of balance weight to adjust the CG)

Merci beaucoup! I am always happy if I can inspire others to go for a balsa build. The Triple Neo is really a nice model and I totally love it. Currently I am building an F5K glider. Not one of those carbon fiber things, one made from balsa.
Any glider with the name "thermic" in it brings back memories of my very first glider 50 years ago...a Jetco Thermic 72.
I had to google the Jetco Thermic 72. What a beautiful glider!!! My first glider 40 years ago was a Graupner Amigo II

Very nice build! How far will the RC go?
Thanks! The RC would go farther than my old eyes would be able to spot the plane. But the telemetry link would anyway warn me before, that the connection is bad. So far the max. distance was around 700 meters

About your motor overheating: I've had similar issues with the cooling spinners by aeronaut. Is it possible, there is some dirt in the cooling hole in the front? That was the problem with my motor after landing on wet ground for a couple of times. Removing the dirt before every flight solved the overheating motor problem for me.

I know what you mean about the tiny openings in the Aeronaut Cool Nose spinners, they can easily be blocked by dirt. In my case they were not blocked. I guess the real root cause was the fact that I was flying with the cameras on top of the fuselage. It's always surprising how much drag is added even by the small Go2.
The typical flight profile for the Triple Neo is to climb and then hunt for thermals. So the motor normally has a lot of time to cool down after the climb. With the camera mounted I needed a longer climb to get to my desired height (30 seconds instead of 20) and then because of the increased drag I was losing height rather quickly which meant that I had to climb again.
On the other side the 11x8 prop is on the upper end of what the motor can take. During climbs I reached 19-20A over a time of 30 seconds. The spec says that it can take max. 22A for short time. Seems OK but with the camera on top I obviously used up all the margins.

Hi, the horizontal stabilizer dimensions (including elevator) are 495mm span and 142mm depth. The elevator has a depth of 56mm in the middle. Shape is a combination of 2 elliptical curves. One for the stabilizer and one for the elevator. The vertical stabilizer has a height of 215mm and a depth (including rudder) of 142mm. The rudder has a depth of 56mm and a height of 230mm. It protrudes 15mm at the bottom vs the vertical stabilizer. Again it is a combination of 2 elliptical curves (stabilizer and rudder). I hope this answers your question. That motor does not seem to be available here in the US……just wondering if you have a suggestion for an alternate ?
I only tested it with the original actro-N 28-4-880. I did a quick check in some German RC forums. Some alternatives that are mentioned there: D-Power AL 2835-9, Hacker A20-12 XL EVO kv1039, Turnigy 2210A 1650kv, AXI 2217-20. This might help you for further investigation. I haven’t got any experience with those. You might also want to check ecalc, which is an online tool for finding the right setup for your plane. It is very useful for finding the right motor/ prop combination. Totally worth the money for the full version.

Auch ich möchte erstmal das tolle Video loben obgleich ich nichts verrstehe weil alles in Englsich ist..schade.. Das Antriebssetup muß wohl echt schlecht sein wenn man ihr mit Gebläse arbeiten muß... Auch mir ist schon ein Actro Motor durchgebrannt im Helios ....
Danke fürs Lob. Das mit der Englischen Sprache hilft mir halt, da ich auf eine internationale Zielgruppe abziele. Der actro Motor ist in diesem Setup am oberen Rand dessen was er aushält. Im normalen Einsatz ist das kein Problem, da nach einem Steigflug eine längere Segelphase kommt. Als ich die Szenen fürs Video gefilmt habe war das natürlich weit weg vom normalen Einsatz. Erstens hat die Kamera oben drauf den Widerstand stark erhöht, speziell die Insta360 One X ist ein ziemlicher Brocken, ganz zu schweigen vom zusätzlichen Gewicht. Somit war für den Steigflug viel mehr Motorlaufzeit nötig. Zweitens war natürlich auch die Segelflugphase durch das erhöhte Gewicht und den großen Widerstand viel kürzer. Also mehr Motorlaufzeit und weniger Abkühlphase. Somit blieb mir nur das Kühlen zwischendurch mit dem Gebläse.
Im normalen Einsatz hatte ich bisher keine Temperaturprobleme, ich hab den Triple Neo Thermic aber noch nicht im Hochsommer eingesetzt.

Danke, schön dass es Dir gefällt. Den Flixx hab ich nicht auf meiner Liste. Die ist auch schon ziemlich lang 🤣 Als nächstes kommt der Maverick von Flightpoint (ist schon fast fertig) und danach hab ich schon mehrere weitere Bausätze zuhause. Sieht also eher schlecht aus für den Flixx, ist aber schöner Flieger 👍🏻 würde mir auch gefallen. Schöne Grüße Robert
