Presenting the third generation of Staufenbiels dynamic all-rounder
Staufenbiels Epsilon Competition 3 is a floater for all conditions that isn’t afraid of aerobatics. By using the proven steel wing joiner we have made the wing extremely robust and it can take it if you want to shift your flight style to sport mode on the slope. The model boasts a painted fiberglass fuselage for a nice seamless finish. Wings and fuselage have been reinforced with carbon fibre. The foam core wings are sheeted with high quality abachi wood and have flaps. The wings come pre-covered in ORACOVER foil
Go hunting for thermals with the Epsilon Competition 3 and have fun descending while doing aerobatics like loopings, rolls and turns.

Very nice! I enjoy cutting the throttle and flying for 30-40 minutes (until I get tired) chasing thermals with my Parkzone Radian. I can only imagine how much fun a plane like that would be. Very interesting and fun aspect of the hobby we share...enjoy!

I saw that fabulous plane in Dortmund at the show three years ago and was very tempted to buy. I don't know where Staufenbiel have been since, their supplies seem to have dried up. It looks a bit more relaxing than the Simprop Excel 3 I was flying yesterday, it took 5 attempts to land it with all that excess speed and mass. Its the same as Hubert suggested for the Epsilon, you have to watch for a stall and spin if you fly too slowly. But we all enjoy the wooosh, something you don't much get with power-planes. I think mine is set up for 6 cells because it has an 80amp esc, but on just three it rips out of my hand at half power, so six cells will be 'exciting' (if my heart can cope) Gliders are such great planes to fly. I really hope the three of you can get that 6m glider of yours operational.
Michael Powell true...turns are a little difficult when getting too slow!!
Gotta say that gliders look so darn elegant. My longest flight was just over 90 minutes from a winch launch. 2m Sig Riser no motor. Had to land coz my neck was complaining bitterly from looking up all the time.

Other than Gas R/C Hydros, I fly Sailplanes. From 60” to 140” . I hand launch them all with No Running . Many are unpowered. Only flying on the power of the suns creation of thermals. A simple Hi-Start is all that’s required for gliders up to 118”, for myself anyway. I do have a electric winch also.

Pretty powered sailplane. They are not hard to hand launch, but you do need some speed and fairly level, too nose up can be a disaster. I even hand launched my 8' into a thermal a couple of times. That is a seriously high aspect wing. In Florida you could literally thermal that thing all day long on one charge. Had several flights out to 2 hrs where I wasn't out of lift, just out of Tx and Rx batteries.
And yeah, if there is one square foot of uncut grass in a thousand acre field, I always seemed to find it too.
The worst was one morning I went out to where they had a very short grass prepared field, and it was wet. I brought it down to a feather like landing, and it kept going and going and going until it found something to hit. Shocked the crap out of me. I was used to 2' "roll" outs, this one was about 20'. I would have sworn it couldn't have gone further on wheel(s). Another one of those wonderful 'live and learn' moments.
Have you watched any of the dynamic slope soaring videos on YT? RC sailplanes hitting right at 400 mph. Amazing. I would be literally shaking trying to fly one of those.

Btw. Staufenbiel just became part of Horizon Hobby. In the past I've ordered parts from them and was a little baffled, when one day the Horizon Hobby shop appeared, when I was clicking the Staufenbiel shop.
I have the newer version of it - XL3 - and u can start is safe from your hand...absolutely safe

Nice flying, but skip the trolly! In my opinion the original motor is underpowered. Just upgrade the motor to a 4250 500Kv, run a 16x13 prop us a 4s 3000. It will pull 1000watts.
To launch the plane, grap the plane direct behind the wing, hand around the fuselage. With full throttle, trough it like a dart.
I done this many time with my epsilon2. I have the older version with balsa wings instead of abachi. Also I have replace the steal wingroth for a carbonroth, save around 300 grams. In total my Epsilon weights 3250 grams. So for the looks of it you're Epsilon is flying faster, CG looks spot on (mine is at 113mm).

That thing is beautiful! Flies a lot like my Phoenix 2400. Hubert sure has some really fun airplanes. Robert, do you still have the huge glider you got from him last year?
Oh I still have to unboy my Phoenix 2400 glider. Cant wait. And I still have all the planes. I really dont sell much.
Yes, I have a Phoenix 2400 (two in fact) and it also performs pretty well, with almost no vices. I also have a Phoenix 2000 which is probably even better perhaps because I put a larger motor in it and so it has more speed and mass to help smooth the flight out even more. It is definitely a cheaper way to get the same sort of feel as the Epsilon. Its not as fast, though so its not quite so whooshy. But I like the Phoenix very much.

Michael Powell what motor do you put in phoenix 2000? Its v2?
@@izabela116 Its V1, and I put in a much bigger motor than intended, its no longer on the HobbyKing website, with a 60a controller. It runs with the same propeller, but also weighs more so there is a solidity to is flight. If you choose something with the same low Kv as the standard, but with more watts, about 500w, you should be fine. Its not a hotliner by any standards, but its a solid performer, and runs best for me on a 3S2600 battery, and for a good time, half on and half off. The fuselage is really strong, and the V2 is even bigger than the V1 so can take the extra power. Even with the extra weight, it slope-soars well for an hour or more at a time while using very little battery.
Pity you didn't tow launch the Epsilon glider, now that would have been something to watch !! But still an excellent flight and plane !
