The Heavy Saber is a conundrum, on one hand it CAN be the highest damaging melee line infantry can have, on the other hand its side swing makes the stake look good. I personally use the hand axe because i prefer crowd control over single target damage
Heavy sabre has both crowd control and damage though?
@dman7644 Oh yeah, it definitely does now after it's side swipe damage got buffed to be 30, about the same to one-shot runners like regular sabre.

I managed to drag on the part before entering the castle in San with a low health surgeon with just the heavy sabre. I flicked and killed alot of the zombies but since it was just us two we were bound to die

Heavy sabre is a straight upgrade, hands down the best melee in the game. Yeah, SOME have the ability to charge and SOME do slightly higher damage outputs, but who plays hardcore? Only Fred. Also, the side swing can be useful as a sacrifice to slow down the horde if you're not good at taking them out, otherwise, I don't use it at all, only going for down swing as it's faster than top and can headshot just as easily if you jump. Flicking works with it too. I'd say the weapon excels overwhelmingly in San Sebastián, like in the winch part where you can solo just like with the bayonet but easier as you aren't as dependent on first person headshots, but rather headshotting in third person + way more penetration.
I remember it oneshotted a shambler with 60 hp or 90. (Headshot)
So it definitely deals alot of dmg. If you do the math, its 129 dmg every 0.6? Seconds.
180 if headshots.
eh, 0.15sec slower is pretty bad when it means it's 25% slower than the sabre.
The heavy sabre is just a direct upgrade to the pike outside of the pike having *slightly* better stats, but it's completely overshadowed by the better swinging animations and mobility.
Not sure why we're comparing heavy sabre with pike, pike is just garbage really

Nah the pike is better but because HS has a charge ability it lets you use other guns that are better because you don't have to pick the musket for the bayonet or ditch your ability to fire for the pike. You can use guns like the carbine which already has a stun but now you can also have a charge as well.

My oppinion on the heavy sabre? It's...It's just an upgrade like dud-
It's objectively better, even if you don't have that much crowd control you can still use the slide slash since it's not 100% useless, but even with the down and up slash you will be killing shamblers left and right at such a pace you're good at crowd control regardless!
Oh and i don't know if it even synergizes with the charge i never got good use out of it like i did with the bayonet-
It's just better, like a longer hand axe without a zapper dmg debuff

And another thing
the animations are gorgeous like holy shit instantly my favourite weapon in the game.

What the FUCK happend?? Back in the old days fifers and drummers were nearly guaranteed to be in your match! A 75% chance at best! Nowdays i barely have any fifer or drummer in my round, heck even the buglers are missing sometimes!

I think the reason you 2fore2 had such a short script is because: The heavy sabre was just...it never had any hate, unlike the carbine which was detested or the pickaxe which no one really knew what to say about, the heavy sabre was just always endorsed, sure just like Copenhagen it had a bad start due to not being able to one shot runners.
(Oh and by bad start on Copenhagen i mean no one knew what the fuck to do so like everyone was losing).

Doesn't matter really, just use the down swing, top can be a bit harder to hit runners but down does it easily.

Ngl, the Heavy Sabre needed to also be used by Seaman, Officer, Musician and Medic
To be honest, no. The only one I could see for that is officer, as it is already in the game (only given by commands) it would take away the linemen’s unique interaction with the officers charge and make the linemen less unique.
Blunderbuss with heavy saber is too op. Probably the only reason seaman wasn't removed.
Medic can't carry a heavy sword, as they gotta heal.
Musician is already strong enough.

@@HankJWimbledonNevadaThe Officer _originally_ had access to the Heavy Sabre, but it got removed as it encouraged Officer players to not give a single shit about their team and use the Charge for themselves instead of a group attack. The lack of coordination needed with a Line Infantry also made the class itself kind of... useless ??? Why bother running a Musket and ask your Officer to charge you when you could Charge yourself without needing to talk to people

There _is_ a benefit to the side swings!
If you're about to be cornered by a horde but there's a small enough gap for you to run through slowing down the zombies will keep that gap open for longer. Bit of a niche scenario but it saved my life on vardo.
It also makes the zombies clump up more as you kite them inviting an ally sapper or seamen to obliterate them for you.
Other than that... Just lock your swing direction to the up or down thrust.

Heavy saber/ Carbine combo is king.
Most people don't realize but the heavy saber is a cavalry weapon meant for jousting (i think) which means it's designed for stabbing. And well does it stab good? For the downward swing it can kill zombies in 2 strikes and severely slow them down. (That or im a god at dodging) And upward which destroys,disintegrate,eliminate,exterminate,terminate hordes of infecteds. You can see why it cost 500 francs. Oh and you can charge with it like a bayonet charge. So just grab yourself a carbine and you can become a living super soldier. For it's animations? It is just so elegant, the upward swing is amazing it feels so elegant
And remember this is 500 francs which is such a steal

I used the heavy sabre to solo to wave 20 and somehow took out 5 runners with it so I say it a 9/10 for a guy who play g&b on mobile
i've also noticed how in first person, down swing headshots are insanely easy to do unlike musket's bayonet or the normal saber maybe its a placebo effect and it isn't true but it seems so

Other than the heavy sabre, one of sapper's construct, caltrops are underrated as hell. Barely ppl use it but its actually quiet useful especially with the new san sebastian update (bombers now added into final battle part). You can put down caltrops to slow down every single shamblers including bombers, players will have enough time to reload their weapons and don't have to worry about the explosion because the bombers couldn't reach you while being slowed down. Even runners gets slowed while stepping on caltrops.
Caltrops is getting good, spamming it at right time can help our team alot

Ngl a good tatic I have been using for the normal Sabre that is also good for the heavy one is to only use the down attack for the speed and then jump to get headshots. Works well most of the times and if you have the timing perfected you can masacar a zapper.

I noticed that you are gonna talk about the HAP, a weapon I have issues with. First, it was extremely expensive, and while I did have enough for all the new weapons right at the update drop, I still think it's an insane price. Secondly, I feel that it's inaccurate barrel, while I understand the need for balancing, ruins the point of the gun. Because the barrel is so inaccurate, a majority of the time, you are practically using one barrel gun. I think people forget that the gun should be used to take out bombers, zappers (DB pistol and HAP), and the British Navymen. In other words, the inaccurate extra barrel hurts the only purpose and upside of the gun. Two barrels to not only instantly kill a sapper but also to take out two bombers before reloading is amazing, if you can hit both shots.
What I am trying to say is that for 2/3 targets, people should be using guns for, require range. Not Rifle range, sure, but range nonetheless. In this case, the bombers and Navymen. More specifically, bombers. If I must be close to a bomber to accurately kill it, it ruins the purpose of using the gun.
It's not a "bad" gun. As one said, it simply doesn’t fill a niche. Guns that don't fill a niche are completely fine, but the problem is that because of that, it's a master of none. That means that it doesn't have a great range (rifle, musket), shots per minute/SPM (carbine), or accuracy (carbine, rifle).
The issue is extended as the reload time isn't the best, and its accuracy, for one barrel, sucks. Because it fails in these areas, its role for the sole purpose of guns in G&B fails to meet standards and needs.
If you need range, use the rifle or msuket
If you need accuracy, use the rifle or carbine
If you need SPM, use the carbine.
The saying, "every shot counts," applies here as if one shot is usually wasted, then it ruins the purpose that the gun provides at sacrifice for all other purposes.
My argument basically boils down to the idea that it's overpriced, its inaccurate barrel harms its only upside, its failure to fill a niche, and that since one shot will mostly be wasted, it's preferable to use a gun that fills a niche so your shots have a higher chance of doing something rather than nothing.
P.S. I did praise the rifle, but I feel that it's not THAT good. This is simply because it sacrifices other properties to overexcel in it's niche, when you don't need it to as rarely is there a time where it does better than other weapons except maybe the HAP (catacombes for instance), but then just use something else.
The heavy sabre is really useful when taking out hordes since you can stay further or hit zombies through some walls
The only problem with carbine that it takes 2 shots to kill a zapper.

Honestly i love the rifle with heavy sabre since rifle has near perfect aim so the only reason u would miss is bc of skill issue or lag plus rifle also has insane crowd control bc of the pierce and the insane damage just makes a fuse of musket blunderbuss (ignore the reload)

To be honest, it'd be better if you used the musket and sabre. If you did that, it would grant you a better swing damage (sabre) and thrust damage (bayonet)
I agree HEAVY on the 0:30 mark. I think it'd be a great concept to give the musician a weapon thats slow but does a good portion of damage. Like a sapper but condensed. Another benefit would be it could help with the bugle item or any other future instrument that increases its meter by attack/damage
Bugle main here! I absolutely agree on what you’re saying, musician & other classes should get more weapons other than the default sabre. Even though musician/chaplain as well as the surgeon are support typa classes, they should get something other than the base weapon being the sabre.
