Mattress Mack, the guy with Houston Astros baseball cap, is absolute treasure and cherished by rich and poor alike. He doesn’t care about money, he cares about community. I remember when Hurricane Harvey hit some big churches were closing their doors but he opened up his huge furniture stores to let poor people in and sleep on his brand new mattresses and sofas. He didn’t care. He won our hearts. Real wealth is humanity and he has it.

I'm old enough to remember when Mac 1st started out. He acted like a goofball on commercials, like a cheap used car salesman; jumping up in the air waving that money. He had the same shtick for 40yrs. As a kid we used to laugh at him. But, it sold furniture. Behind the goofball persona was a hard working savvy businessman. He's too old now to do all that jumping around (although he still tries) and he still sells more furniture in Houston than any other outfit.

And money can’t buy relationship. Not real, true, genuine relationships. It can buy people who will pretend to have a relationship with you, or do certain things with you, but it absolutely cannot buy actual relationships. If giving someone money has to be involved for anyone to have a “relationship” with you, then it isn’t at all a sincere relationship.
Many people will certainly act like they want a relationship with you, but what they really want is a relationship with your money, not with you. Not to say someone can’t have a relationship with you if you have money, just that it can’t be real if money has any bearing on whether or not they’re interested in having a relationship with you.

It's actually refreshing to hear someone wealthy (2:10) say that money can buy happiness. So often the cliche that money can't buy hapiness is rolled out it's beyond frustrating and shows a lack of self awarness and empathy. There probably is a limit to how happy money can make you, but it can stop a lot of the things that make you unhappy such as financial worry and stress, and it definitely gives you a lot more opportunities to make you happy. Similarly, the other guy said that relationshis are the currency of life. Great, what affords you the opportunties and time to create good relationships? You guessed it, money....I mean it's hard to spend time with family or meet new people when you're working 3 jobs just to keep roof over your head.

This is such valuable content. When he says “relationships are the currency of life” it hit me pretty hard. Everyone knows relationships are an important part of life and many of us take pride in “keeping our circle small” but over the last couple years I’ve found myself becoming a little bit of a hermit. I go to work, hardly go out to socialize so I can save money and to be honest a lot of the time I just don’t want to go hang out. There’s only a select few that I really feel comfortable around and enjoy spending my time with and if it doesn’t involve them then I just avoid it. This video made me realize I need to get out of the habit of turning down invites to events or when my old buddy from high school invites me on a trip somewhere. I’ve been doing that for so long that when I stop and take a look at my life I realize I hardly have any genuine relationships, a huge difference from when I was younger when I had tons of friends and was always going out. That’s not to take away from the great relationships I DO have but maybe our lives could reach so much more potential when we do allow new people in our life. You never know who you may befriend or what opportunities may come with relationships.

It's the rich man's fault, then the government, then people of a certain colour, then it's people of the other gender, then, it's the big corporations, and if all these don't get fixed by the government, they won't be successful. I've made and spent millions and almost lost my life (I'm early-middle-aged). Family, friends and helping people are about the most important thing I can imagine doing with my life. Helping make others more able will lift their morale and give them the confidence to stand tall so THEY TOO can help others. So I'm more focused on what my life can DO for others than I am "what can people do for me". I've encountered many younger people who are all about "take, give me everything NOW!" Very entitled and impatient. It's the opposite of what makes you happy in the end. It's just like having kids, it's the fact that you can love them and help them that makes you feel so good, then they repay you with their love. The kids don't need to give you money or THINGS to make you happy!

@UCLEPKEieXF509Y13IPWbz7g You are close but go deeper. It is about survival. When a dog is curled up (alone) under a blanket, it is at peace. It feels safe and secure. Being part of a group, whether popular, or around someone who is popular instills a similar peace. A sense of security. This is more important than the sharing of a funny joke. It is absorbing the energy of the group. People enjoy 2 hours at a rock concert but will rarely sit for 2 hours to hear a better, cleaner version on an MP3. I have many videos, but there is something more fun about watching it if "it's on" the TV. There is an energy about it- I am part of something that is happening. Otherwise, I fully agree with you. We are hunter-gatherers and deep relationships are very important. I only point out why I believe this is so.

Yet, I almost wonder if people tell themselves that as a comfortable lie. I grew up poor, sometimes didn't have a home, or food...etc, and I can certainly agree that money increases comfort which increases happiness. I did reach a point where my income was enough to be comfortable, but going beyond that you find it can still open up new avenues for happiness. Anybody can go on camera and go “yeah my life wasn’t that great because of money” but did they ever struggle to get a meal? Did they always have access to clean water? Did they always have access to health care? Dude was on point when he said “money can buy things that make you happy” what they all mean is that they could imagine a world where they were slightly happier and that is dissatisfying to them

That was a good point and well made in this video.
I've heard that sort of advice before, but this time it made more sense to me and I'm taking notes.
Along with valuing relationships and building peer networks, the advice in this video looks like a solid set of life skills.

I crossed the $1M mark back in 2013 mostly buy paying off debt and investing heavily in the stock market in 2008. I agree being 'rich' (whatever your definition of rich is) doesn't make you happy, but it sure gives you the option to be miserable or not! I consider myself to be very fortunate. I barely cracked $100k salary and only then right at the end of my career. My personal relationships are much more important than they were early in life, not having to worry about money is an incredible gift.

You are so much more enjoyable to listen to when you are interviewing people than when doing promotions. In those moments you talk too fast and sound fake. During the interviews you were appeared relaxed, comfortable and were much easier on the ears.

Hi Noah, can you make a video talking about work life balance while pursuing your business dream? As someone with entrepreneur mindset myself, I find it hard to get out of my cushy corporate job because of my commitment to family (e.g: taking care of kids,..). Wonder how others think through this
