The Science Vessel/Tank counter against the Defiler/Lurker combo worked surprisingly well. The turning point was the lurker attack which was repelled by mass mines at the Terran Base entrance.
Well queens have become ground units and I think they replaced vessels with a unit called the Nighthawk. The Queen has slightly different capabilities such as dark swarm (a defiler special) and the night hawk has something called a hunter seeker missile along with its detection capabilities.
Yeah, VioleTAK doesn't upload them, but if you look over the commentator idol, you'll see one of the contestants doing a match of him and some random noob. It was very recent, mid January I believe.
It can hit things from a *slight* distance (like it can hit two zerglings at once if lined up properly), but it is actually classified as a melee. Example: It can hit things inside of Dark Swarm.
Savior is ranked number 1 this year, out of the entire league (not just zerg), with 2010.8 points. Also, for reference, Bisu is second with 1969.2 points.
It said this was a friendly match in the description, after these two already qualified for the next stage of Starleague. It also said these two didn't give it 100%. It'd make sense if they're not doing a qualification match to not give 100% XD
Mostly because pros are insanely good at defending against them. It's hard for Terran to get a successful nuke off. I've only EVER heard of two people to do it in a pro game, and that was a while back. Elky used a nuke in the semi-finals once (against a Korean, but I forget who) and then to get revenge for Koreans, Boxer beat Elky in the finals with a nuke. Boxer also had an awesome nuke rush in a TvP game. Basically the only fighting was two nukes, and then game over.
Anyone know why that lurker wasn't taking damage under the dark swarm at around the 18:30 mark? I always thought dark swarm was vulnerable to siege mode
Scouts, in particular, are extremely expensive, and easily beaten by other units. Dragoons are generally more effective anti-air and MUCH better at anti-ground. Queens cost 150 gas, which is generally better used on Defilers or Lurkers, at least against Terran.
" terran's the strongest but hardest to use." i crack up whenever i see this, starcraft is one of the most balanced RTS games since the 90's, and is still going the only thing that unbalances the racial matchups are the maps, and the few progamers who have their stages of divinity i.e. Boxer, Nada, Iloveoov, Julyzerg, and now Savior. GG btw, love both players styles
You can spawn broodlings in tanks? Then why did I get a message that said you can only use it on biological units? Or do Ensnare and Parasite somehow magically do damage to only tanks?
Because that's not how ZvT goes. It's much more cost-efficient to spend your minerals the way they do. If you watch a lot of current professional ZvT matches, they'll look quite similar to this.
Over 200, usually. Not 400. They CAN get up to 500 or so, but they don't keep it constantly that high. I've seen videos of their hands. 6-7 actions per second would sound like a high-pitched buzz.
@truekoreanlover the vessels are out, the game is over. He was starved for gas because he forced his macro, trying to power through a bad situation by just having more units that all still die to what he's facing down. Also - Queens. Not singular, multiple... XD and my comment said to make scourge, not to pull a complete tech switch. He tried to fight with lurkers against science vessels and tanks =( I had to rewatch this to reply, since the comment I had there was from a year and a bit ago lol
Terrans draw lots of zergs attention by irradiating, I think zerg should do the same with small lurk drops, or even fake drops, that way dispersing the terran force and making succesful swarms. a good way of making lurk drops is having about 5 queens and doing broodlings to tanks that could kill the lurks in the expansion area. three lurks and two or one defiler to use dark swarm when other tanks arrive.
@Fotrezas Terran's exponential power growth of an army makes streams of units rather weak to them. Unless he could macro out an entire army and get them Together
@firedrake110 What the hell are you talking about? I think you need to watch again. He had a solid game until the lucky mine on the lurkers. He could NOT risk tech switching then because he had to macro up more units at that point. Also, you can look up a POV version of this game. He was a bit starved for gas. I'm pretty sure compared to You AND Me, he knows much better how to counter. It's much harder when you are lacking resources and going against fucking Boxer lol
Irradiate is so fucking overpowered. There should have been a range nerf during this game's history. 75 energy gets you guaranteed kills versus zerg and protoss high tech spell casters and hardly puts the science vessel at risk.
this was goddamn painful to watch. Julyzerg was just miles off his game, making mistakes left and right, and not switching techs at the right times to counter his opponent's units. The second science vessels hit the field, you start popping out scourge, not just making more defilers to lose to irradiate
For 2011 standard, it was bad, but considering it was played in 2006, it is actually very very high level. Of course, then you watch Flash and Jaedong, and it looks noobish.

This was so much better than the second episode... Better campaign, better sounds and better feeling.
Awesome, I look forward to others.
I'm curious why they don't seem to try to attack each other's base that much early in the match...they have their armies battle it out and such.

why the terran music and not the zerg music I've always wondered...
i like the ensnare lurker attack, havent seen that in a while
don't siege moded tanks do damage on units under dark swarm?
Scouts, in particular, are extremely expensive, and easily beaten by other units. Dragoons are generally more effective anti-air and MUCH better at anti-ground. Queens cost 150 gas, which is generally better used on Defilers or Lurkers, at least against Terran.
Now thats a real game....
GOod job on both parties :)
I like how Snickers is sponsoring this match.

Love this video, and love you Violetek. Thank you.
that was sweet, too bad july slipped or he coulda won. boxer is too crazy. they both are!
You can spawn broodlings in tanks? Then why did I get a message that said you can only use it on biological units?
Or do Ensnare and Parasite somehow magically do damage to only tanks?
thank god they are getting rid of the defiler in SC2, it's so OP
omg why he quit? he had lots of other bases O.o
12:08 -- that was a brutal ensnare, anyone know how one should avoid something like that in a TvZ game?
can someone tell me who is the best 'zerg' this year?
man that was awesome man adn nice starargy
lol....i've never thought of that....good point
but burrowed lurkers don't take damage from splash while under dark swarm.
I saw one today but it was a shadow of one right at the end of a match not even full screen, i think it was boxer
Damn, July should have built scourge. With his skill at micro, he could have destroyed the Science Vessels easily.
Because that's not how ZvT goes. It's much more cost-efficient to spend your minerals the way they do. If you watch a lot of current professional ZvT matches, they'll look quite similar to this.
1 month later... XD
burrowed units in dark swarm don't get hurt.
레이트 메카닉 시초?
julyzerg deserves a big fat cookie
Over 200, usually.

He plays StarCraft at the moment, he's been back for a while.

I know him but I've only seen his games vs. bisu, firebathero & iris ... :)
exactly... he was forced to mess up
lol love the commentators!! even if i dont understand what theyre saying XD, btw that lurker at 18:05 was doomed
spawn broodling works on tanks
Yah out take a look at savior then, also july because he on fire lately
Certainly atypical (?) gameplay from both players. Perhaps using the "free" game to innovate a bit?

what game is it?
I wish they would use spawn broodling against the tank rush
야아~야아아아아 그리고오오오오오
if u really want toknow more about dark swarm of deflier, go watch more of savior's game, his deflier usage was god like
actually it doesn't ALWAYS kill the ultralisk
name map please...
lol science wessels!!!!!!!!!
You can't spawn broodlings in mechanical units, dur. Or did you mean something else, and your sentence was unclear?
Mhm, good luck finding 'em all, though >_>
21:23 onwards. LOL neither side noticed each other.
marine n medics
they cost too much gas man..
Queens, sure. But pros use spider mines all the freaking time. Like every game.
@Fotrezas
Terran's exponential power growth of an army makes streams of units rather weak to them.
Unless he could macro out an entire army and get them Together
honestly, i havent seen a terran lose to a zerg in a pro game for ages ...
boxer owned july nice.
i mean being used against boxer, i think it was savior who actually used it
shoot down the queen? yamato works nicely cause its a one hit kill and it cant miss.
14:16 oh.🥲
@firedrake110
What the hell are you talking about? I think you need to watch again.

agreed,it was so fucking OP. If you think about it, that was the only thing that made boxer win.
***** Well... I don't know about that.
Those chineses are so funny
tanks can be taken out by queens, as can dragoons and other units like templars
yea but only the splash, not direct.
@MaxPlanck011 dude he's probably like the 2cnd best player in the world.
@firedrake110
Yea, sorry about the year late comment :D
i think boxer is good with long hair ...he is been doing bad since his air force haircut .../short hair brought him down .i think
if firebats are ranged firebat can't do a shit under swarms
this was goddamn painful to watch. Julyzerg was just miles off his game, making mistakes left and right, and not switching techs at the right times to counter his opponent's units. The second science vessels hit the field, you start popping out scourge, not just making more defilers to lose to irradiate
RPoint-.-
actually you can i've seen it. It's weird
14:14
Wtf? Lurker takes ten trillions shot and takes 0 damage
@Silverknite1 fail
For 2011 standard, it was bad, but considering it was played in 2006, it is actually very very high level. Of course, then you watch Flash and Jaedong, and it looks noobish.
honestly you shouldnt see queens that often in TvZ for it to be that annoying.
Boring
