That's a very smooth feeding system indeed! Josh has a great presentation voice, he should try singing someday! We get those barrels from Welch's for fifty cents each :) Looks like a 5 gpm flow. Great watching you two.
That is a great set up I found this video vary helpful I'm from onterio Canada and we have 19 hives and this pump you have shown us will be perfect for us and we will also use it for moving maple sap from our storage totes thanks so vary much
So i just built this exact setup based on this video. I've only tested with water so far, ill start 1:1 feeding a couple weeks. I really only have 1 suggestion based on the video. I built this exact setup with the cheaper 3300 pump that Josh said would work based on Tractor Supply's support team. My testing was that it wasn't fast enough to be worth the slightly cheaper pump. I did testing with water and it would take 35ish seconds to fill a 1 gallon jug. After the first initial burst of pressurized fluid from the nozzle, the pump couldn't really keep up with the demand of the 3/4" hose and gas pump nozzle. I returned the 3300 the next day and swapped it for the 5500 just like in this video and it's worlds away from the 3300. The pump has the same initial 60PSI burst when first pulling the trigger and then it keeps up the entire time you are filling. I did back the pressure switch off about 1/2 a turn and that was just enough to make the pump trigger pull just a bit softer without sacrificing pump volume. Going from the 3300 to the 5500 made filling the same 1 gallon jug go from around 35 seconds to about 9 seconds with a much better flow rate. As Josh said, the 3300 MAY work better if you had a tote with a bottom valve, so you have more gravity in your favor, but i cant image it would help a lot with the slow continuous flow. Thanks for the video, exactly what i needed to easily get this built in a timely manor without having to try and figure it all out on my own. ** Side note: 100' of 3/4 hose holds almost 2 gallons of liquid.
hi, we do this system in greece many years. we have roof feeders and a hole with plastic cup at the top and we dont have to smoke the hive at all. i have 400 hives and it saves me a lot of time
Love these types of videos. Very informative and pertaining to applied beekeeping methods. This is how one scales up from the hobbyist level to the Side-liner Level.
Suggestion Strap around the tank , locking the hook straps to the truck deck forward of the barrel Then same again with the hook straps to the deck of the truck behind the barrel I used to cart liquid filled barrels for our company No spills involved at any time ( strap the barrel forwards , strap the barrel backwards ) I hope this helps
Great idea ..I too am feeding my small 6 hive operation all I can give them …plans to increase exponentially over the next couple years .. thanks for the 💡
Great video! I have been visualizing this but really appreciate the details. Could you provide more details on the lid that you use on your glass jars? I assume those are the ones which you invert atop the hives for slow feeding?
I really appreciate this video. Just got back from Tractor Supply with the pump and purchased a 65 gallon stand tank while there. A question I have. Is it possible to wire the pump where is plugs into the trailer light receiver?
Could the sugar syrup be gravity fed from the hose if it were connected to the bottom of the barrel; or the barrel laid on it's side? As always, thanks for sharing!!!
I've got a question for you I have three hives and one has a really amazing gentle carni queen that I love and want to carry on here genetics in my small bee yard. I'm wondering is it worth buying grafting tools to just make one queen or two? Or should I just let them raise their own in a walk away split with eggs from the mother hive. Thanks!
Another tip with the magnets he used , throw one in your pocket, instant hive tool holder and don't have to dig in pocket or holsters. Sticks to outside of pants
What’s your trick to mixing your feed in that barrel,,, I’m thinking of building one and put an old trolling motor in it to use as a mixer, but just curious on your technique. Thanks Matt
I mix mine in a steel drum with a heater band on it, trolling motor lol. Then transfer with a sump pump from my out building to tank on the truck. Heat is key I believe!
I recognize that banjo picker from Hive Life! 😂 Thanks for putting together this awesome video on the relatively inexpensive pump feeding system for our bees.
Very nice little set up, something this size would/will work great for me. Thank you two/three very much for this video.👍Y'all have a wonderful day. I wonder if you could add a pressure regulator so that you can adjust the final output pressure.
Sometimes a small amount of bleach works good if I don’t feed it all, or some pro health/honey b healthy if it’s not fall of the year lol. I try my best to actually calculate an estimate on how much syrup I’ll need. Easy to do, I only have about 40 hives
RV pumps do come with a 35psi shutoff switch. I have a vey similar setup. How is he mixing the syrup? Trolling motor or paint stirring drill attachment? I to am struggling with a good reel setup and the best way to mix /transfer the 1to1 into the barrel.
Being in the pickle 🥒 capital we get them 55 gallon black plastic drums .. two peace lids screw on lids . You could roll out the back of the truck not lose a drop .. very cheap like 8 bucks each ... that would work great with that system.. mix it I use rain water sugar pack of chicken vitamins and electric trolling motor. My well water to hard for feed .. hopefully don't need to feed they are wall to wall brood with box of goldenrod honey on top plenty heavy.. hopefully this freaky heat wave doesn't kill the dandelion flow. 12 days will have turn over need to get that mite treatment in before they hatch .
I always wondered why Kamon never used the cap/ladders. I found out why when I refilled mine one day and the SHB came pouring out. I actually like them without the caps better now that I’ve switched.
You can just put a twig in it if you are concerned. You'll find Buddhist shrines all over Asia with sugary drinks poured into a bowl and a escape drinking straw for bees that topple in.

according to Josh the flow is 5.3 gallons per minute. ;-)
@@mountainhobbit1971 Thanks, I spoke too soon... but that's so you could catch me making a mistake, Sean! :)
@@FrederickDunn your welcome. LOL! ;-) I was cracking up when I heard Josh say 5.3 GPM and you wrote 5 GPM. just couldn't resist.
That was funny didnt hear Kamon talking for a 5 minutes , but was awsome video.
I love his accent. Such a nice southern ring to it.
Great job figuring that out Josh. Looks like a very nice set up.

Where did you get the 3/4 inch hose and fittings
I have a smaller version of this that I use on ATV I use a tank sprayer with on demand pump
I really appreciate this video. Just got back from Tractor Supply with the pump and purchased a 65 gallon stand tank while there. A question I have. Is it possible to wire the pump where is plugs into the trailer light receiver?
Yes, if you have a 7 pin connector, there should be a pin that is always hot. Normally used for charging the trailer battery
What can it handle? 1:1 / 2:1 / Beet Syrup / HFCS?
It will have to be diluted to 2:1 or thinner to be used.
my same question.
Could the sugar syrup be gravity fed from the hose if it were connected to the bottom of the barrel; or the barrel laid on it's side?
As always, thanks for sharing!!!
How does it do with hfcs 55?
Works fine if the hfcs is diluted with water

But will it pump pro-sweet?
It won't just 2:1 and thinner
So where’s the Bluegrass channel?🎻
Thanks Josh! This is a great video!
Nice video. Lots of information. Thanks Josh, Kamon and Laurel.
Josh, do you mix your sugar syrup with this setup or with something else and then distribute with this system, which I like. Thanks.
Was just about to ask the same thing.
You and your bud make a good team thanks for sharing!
Kamon, we would love to see a video for mixing large batch feed in a barrel like that.
Thanks,
Mike and Gina
Very helpful and informative. Thanks for all the effort you to through to put good content out. Josh sure talks fast for a fella from Tennessee.😀
Lol Josh is from The backside of the backwoods of Kentucky

Josh was our favorite singer at the Hive Life conference. Great video! Thanks for sharing this information.
Don't tell him that! There will be no living with him now!
Can use the same system for mixing - I love mine.... Also have a 10 gallon & a 25 gallon tank for flexibility

Where can I find those half gallon jars?
Grandmas basement, if your very lucky lol (where I found mine)
I wonder if that 60psi can be adjusted down?
This is awesome 😮.

Are you beekeepers?
How do you keep the feed from settling down? Is there a mixer inside? My jars when they sit for a week they tend to settle down at the bottoms
Do you add anything to your syrup to prevent fermentation?

I appreciate you guys showing this. I’m at the point I’ve got to move to a setup like this. I have too many 5 gallon buckets to lug around.
Is it work with thick sugar syrup(3:2) or bee invert? Good Vid! Greetings from UE
Nice pump set us I’ll be heading in this direction soon
That jar at the beginning of your movie looks like one of the old gallon jars with a 70mm opening, rather than 1/2 gallon
What would that be Stuart a 5lb jar?

Hive beetles get in those pro feeders and lay eggs and the larvea float and crawl out into the hive. You have no idea what your in for with those.
That is why I use motherlode completely open to the bees
I always wondered why Kamon never used the cap/ladders. I found out why when I refilled mine one day and the SHB came pouring out. I actually like them without the caps better now that I’ve switched.
Yup and they are way cheaper!
This couldn't have been better timing as I'm searching for pump setups!
Must be a bee keeper
You might want to invest in a adjustable water pressure regulator to stop the burst of liquid
how bout air line reel with hose
This guy sounds like a younger Bob Bennie
Alright Josh now show how to mix 50 gals of sugar
That kind of feeder drowns more bees than any other (in my experience).
You can just put a twig in it if you are concerned.
You'll find Buddhist shrines all over Asia with sugary drinks poured into a bowl and a escape drinking straw for bees that topple in.
